Atrocious telephone system. I was on hold 1 hour and 43 minutes and got cut off. I now just drive to the closest clinic when I need help.

I strongly do not recommend taking your kids here for care. My son is 5 years old, and I have been…read morebringing him here since he was born. His primary care doctor is Laura Abeyta at the Golf Course location. We have never had complaints regarding Dr. Abeyta, but after what recently happened to my son, it is not hard not to question the whole practice. On July 10th I took my son to the Holly location around 8:45pm; as he was having symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting. The provider he saw at the time was Rebecca Webb. I had given my son pain medication prior to the appointment so he seemed okay so only a physical exam was given but no further testing was done nor medication prescribed or recommended. The provider stated it could just be a stomach bug as something is going around, so we then proceeded to go home. My son and I were going to be traveling the next day so I was very persistent with letting them know we would be traveling, and I was scared my son would get worse on the way. The following morning my son woke up with a fever and had exploding diarrhea, I then called After Hour Pediatrics back to let them know my son's symptoms had worsened and I asked if they recommend, I take him in to be seen again? They stated he would be okay to just "let him go through it". I listened to them. I trusted them. As my son and I are traveling he is not doing good. We were traveling to Juarez and as soon as we made it in, I took him to a doctor, and they stated he was not well and needed to be taken to the hospital asap... We immediately crossed over to El Paso and took my son to the El Paso Children's Hospital Emergency room where he was immediately checked in and properly checked, come to find out that he had appendicitis (inflammation of the appendix, if ruptured you can die or cause complications). Unfortunately, my son's appendix did rupture which caused him to have more complications during his recovery. During recovery he absorbed an ileus (where your small intestine becomes paralyzed causing bowel obstruction). My son had to have 2 back-to-back surgeries; he was in ICU for 3 days... He was hospitalized for 10 days. Thankfully to God, powerful prayers from family and friends, and the amazing El Paso Children's Hospital Pediatric team my son is healthy and alive. I just wanted to share my story because my son could have died... I do not want any other parent or kid to go through what we went through... Had I not taken the extra step he would not be here. I put trust in After Hour Pediatrics and they let my son and I down. I am very disappointed with the way my son was not properly attended here. We will not be returning to any After Hour Pediatrics, although it may not have been all the providers fault but my son has had complications of constipation since he was a newborn, I never thought anything of it but now with finding out what my son had, could this have been prevented had Dr. Abeyta done more throughout testing during the constipation visits and maybe would have had the surgery done sooner? and the provider he saw that night, seemed like she wanted to go home as she did no testing, no labs, no ultrasounds and no medications were given, nothing was done besides an annual physical exam, if that, then the following morning another provider basically was trying to get me off the phone and did not properly advise me. It seems like the whole practice could learn something from this. Regardless I feel like this could have been prevented by After Hour Pediatrics had they properly diagnosed my son. Please never stop trusting your own gut and always stay fighting for your kid, be their advocate.

I took my daughter to get checked for earache six times and all these doctors are incompetent. Bad…read morecare. They are reusing disposable medical devices. They discriminate against children. Good riddance.

We moved to the University area recently, all the way from the far far north west region of…read moreAlbuquerque. After changing our address and pharmacy, drivers licenses and routines, we knew we'd soon have to go in search of a more centrally located pediatrician for our daughter. Since birth, she has seen Dr. Toya and others in the After Hours Pediatrics office in Rio Rancho. We LOVE Dr. Toya, and After hours, but it was hard to imagine traveling to Rio Rancho for well child visits, let alone every fever in between. Enter Dr. Mason at Pediatric Associates. We have received multiple recommendations for Dr. Mason from coworkers and other friends with children. So when my little one developed a rash, we made an appointment and went to see what all the fuss was about. The office was efficient and courteous. They made an appointment for us the same day and we were shown back to the examining room within minutes of arriving. It's worth noting as well that I really like that they have a well and sick child waiting area. I have no idea if this is actually useful in practice, but it gives me piece of mind. Plus, they told me that they schedule well visits at different time periods than those for sick children. Limiting cross contamination is a plus! Anyway, Dr. Mason came into the room shortly thereafter (dressed so stylishly might I add) and introduced herself to my daughter. She was very kind and friendly and immediately put my shy toddler at ease. The visit was just the right length, long enough to discuss any concerns and solutions. She was easy to talk to and very professional. We liked her right away! On our most recent visit, Dr. Mason was out so we saw Dr. Sanchez, another wonderful pediatrician in the practice. We were once again very pleased. Overall, this practice is very efficient and excellent with patients and parents! We're so happy to have found wonderful pediatricians with a clean office and very capable staff. We'll miss Dr. Toya but we are happy to have found a suitable replacement so quickly!

I've never had any problems at Pediatric Associates. Dr. Samorodin is a great pediatrician who…read moreseems to really love children and engages with my daughter when we bring her in. My daughter seems to like her as well. That being said, I'll be finding another pediatrician (probably After Hours Pediatrics--I've heard good things) because I find the old-school medicine and closed-mindedness annoying. I've gotten condescending head shakes and glares when I mention co-sleeping, vaccinating on a selective schedule, not introducing solids until 6 months old, baby led weaning, etc. I understand that doctors went to school for this kind of thing (20 years ago--and a lot has changed), but please don't recommend rice cereal as a first food when I JUST read several articles about how terrible it is for babies. Not to mention talking about weaning a breastfed baby at 9 months old(?!). I would recommend Dr. Janet Samorodin if you're less of a crunchy parent and more traditional. She is great with kids and all of the employees are very friendly.
