I should take away a star from Anderson Paint, just for closing the store on William Street…read more Anderson's is the only place I buy paint and supplies if I can help it. They carry the best brands: Benjamin Moore, Graham and California Frescoat. If you follow the coverage of paint in Consumer Reports, California was the highest rated brand last year, and Bennie Moore is always close to the top. They can make your paint job last 10 years, rather than the standard five to seven years. The staff knows a lot about paint. They can tell you what kind to use and how to put it on. They'll warn you about problems you might encounter with the preparation and painting, if you can manage to get to the store when they are not too busy and talk to them about your project. They have a great selection of tools and supplies, and everything is well organized. I never end up wandering around wishing I could find the right thing, which does happen at Lowe's. Yes, the paint sells for $30 to $65 and per gallon, but that's what real paint costs. You can get paint for as little as $16 per gallon at Lowe's, but I wouldn't use their paint outdoors; indoors it can probably hold because it doesn't have to stand up to the weather. Anderson's also has a store on Stadium Boulevard, north of Stadium and Liberty, and that's the store I've been using since they closed the downtown store. But I have been into the Washtenaw store a couple of times and the staff is every bit as good as the other store. They did a good job putting together orders for different kinds of paint, including a couple of tough custom matches.

Buyer beware! Store will sell you old gunky paint that will leave you cleaning up after every roll…read moreof it on your wall. We stopped by here on Sunday morning to pick up a 5 gallon container of paint for our store remodel. We purchased 5 gallons of paint for $350 and some quick dry mud for the walls. We purchased the paint separately and hired a painter for a business remodel. The painter had suggested that we buy the paint from a Benjamin Moore store, because they supposedly have a higher quality paint and it would only require one coat and it came in the perfect color we needed and wanted too. Our painter said the paint quality was so poor and bad that it would take him more than one day of painting since there was so much paint slime and gunk in the paint. He would he spending half of his time cleaning up the gunk off the wall as he rolled it. The painter spoke to Hasan N. to find a resolution for the bad paint issue, he was of no help. The paint was old and had chunks and gunk all throughout the container after opening it and all of the gunk that stuck on every roll of it too. The paint was so bad that it would have taken 3 times as long. We would have been better off getting our one coat paint from Sherwin Williams. The rep from Sherwin Williams would have at least picked up the bad paint and delivered new paint with no questions asked. The owner, Hasan said he would swap out the bad paint for us, but the we didn't have hours to use up for the commute back and forth to drop off and pick up the paint. The bad paint has already cost us an additional day of paint time and delayed the finish of the paint for a second day. Hasan should have dropped off new clean paint to us ASAP, sent out a staff or someone to bring it to our site to save us some commute time and hours of extra time cleaning up after every roll. He simply didn't care at all that he gave us bad paint in the first place. He flat out told us it's not returnable. Essentially telling us it's our problem he sold us the bad paint. We had a tight window to get the painting done in a day and that was with the belief the paint would be good from the start. The owner even admitted to our painter that some of his paints gets gunky, this was after our painter sent the owner some requested photos of the gunky sediment from the paint. This location absolutely refused to anything about the horrible paint. They have terrible customer service or rather nonexistent. Avoid this place if possible. If you end up here, always make sure you see the paint and mixed in front of you and on a stick or flat surface rolled out before paying and walking out of this place. Don't regret buying from here like we did.

Most recently they helped me finely tune the color of my white interior trim paint to best match the Cabinet Coat trim paint I'd used previously but was now discontinued. Products are costly being that this is a Benjamin Moore store, but the quality is incredible and my experience with the personalized customer service and the interest they've taken in watching my house come together keeps me coming back again and again and again. Even when I come in with a PPG or Behr color swatch, their color matching is the best I've experienced and they've even helped me fine tune colors of paint that was purchased elsewhere. Hands down my favorite paint shop.

The design process started off smoothly -- the team was friendly and helpful in finalizing the design. However, once we agreed on the table and paid in full upfront (something we were uncomfortable with but were assured was fine), everything went downhill. The original completion date was supposed to be mid-August, but there was almost no communication from the store about progress. I had to repeatedly reach out for updates, only to eventually learn that the company making the table base (outside of Michigan) had "stopped responding to their emails" for nearly a month. That delay pushed our project back significantly, with no clear timeline ever provided. When we were finally invited to see the finished table, the quality was disappointing. The metal legs had visible scratches, and the copper top had several imperfections -- bubbles in the surface (caused by uneven glue adhesive) and areas that looked like staples under the metal. When I pointed these out, the owner responded rudely, even asking, "Have you ever ordered custom furniture before? This isn't Wayfair." That comment was unnecessary and unprofessional, especially after spending over $3,000 and waiting months for the piece. She explained that fixing the flaws would require redoing the entire top and said "this is just how custom pieces are." She also claimed the showroom table looked the same, but when we compared them, it clearly did not. The owner eventually agreed to make "adjustments," though she was dismissive about timelines and updates. She later offered to refund us and keep the table, implying I was "too upset" to be satisfied -- which felt unfair, considering our frustrations were justified. After further discussion, she agreed to fix the issues and deliver the table the following Monday. When it arrived, the "repairs" were unacceptable. The legs had simply been spray-painted over, one of the staple marks was sanded down leaving a burn ring, and new bubbles appeared on the copper top. Again, I had to reach out for follow-up. The owner reiterated her offer to take the table back and refund us, but by that point, starting over with another company would have meant waiting months more. When I asked for compensation due to the poor craftsmanship, she rudely offered only $200, though they did waive the $175 delivery fee since we lived outside of Detroit. Overall, the experience was incredibly frustrating. The customer service felt polite until we paid -- after that, it became dismissive and condescending. The quality of the final product does not reflect the price or the promises made. Bottom line: Woodward Throwbacks may have appealing designs, but if you're looking for reliable communication, professional customer service, or high-quality custom work, I cannot recommend them.
