Went in to purchase a snowblower and was set on a two-stage thinking I needed it for my driveway and sidewalk. Was prepared to spend the money for that type of equipment, but the friendly folks at Billings helped me realize that since I don't have a gravel driveway, I would be better suited with a single-stage. You know this is a solid place that's customer-focused when they encourage a cheaper model than what you were looking at. Highly recommend over the big box stores for the customer service, attention they pay to each person who walks in, and the availability of a service department for any future needs. Brought in our lawnmower for a tune up and to get the handle repaired. Three weeks later, they are waiting for a part for the handle (and we explained the mower was still usable otherwise), and they had done nothing to tune it up while our lawn suffers from a lack of care. When we picked it up, they charged us a previously unmentioned $20 "estimate" fee. Too bad the paperwork they handed us didn't actually diagnose any problems, which is what I expect if someone is going to charge us $20. read more

I took my Poulan chain saw in as a result of having an issue with it being able to continue to run when attempting to increase the speed to be able to cut with it. When I returned to pick it up I was told and it was written on the paper work: piston ring seized; "Not worth repairing". Since it was almost new, I asked to talk with the "Tech". He came and repeated what was on the paperwork. I took the chainsaw home. The next day I removed the muffler to access the cylinder wall, piston and piston ring. The piston ring was not seized, nor was piston and using a scope I inspected the cylinder wall. It looked almost new. I did a compression test and the saw was at "spec". I took the saw back to Billings and had a discussion with the service manager. He listened to what I has done, then spoke to the technician. Once again I left the saw. After 10 days I had heard nothing so I returned to find out the status. They said the saw was now fixed. I returned home only to find that the saw was still having the same original issue: not able to accelerate. I returned to Billing and they once again took the saw. Another 3 days and I stopped to get the saw....2 hours later: the tech came and told me that 1. the gas line had a crack and that is why it would not accelerate. 2. the filter was replaced and finally 3. it needed the spacer between carburetor and air filter due to a leak. They wanted to order the part and charge me for the labor. I took the saw home, took it apart and could not find a leak at the part. I started the saw, and adjusted the "needles" at the carburetor. And now the saw that "was not worth fixing". Runs like new. I will say that Billings tried. read more

I bought tires on special order (Bought and paid for, in full) and was told they would be in within 2 to 3 days , after waiting a month for them to come in, the parts manager more than doubled the price. I told him that wasn't legal and he said "fine, then I'll be illegal". That's bad business practices. They should have apologized for making me wait and gave me the tires, instead I had to leave without my tires and don't have a working mower. After returning home, I found the tires on line for less money with free 2 day delivery. Before you go to Billings, check on line. Save yourself time and money and avoid being subjected to a rude parts manager. read more

I had brought in a brand new toro lawn mower that had been used 1.25 times. Second time it was used it got jammed up. Brought it in and the guys there told me it was trash. Said the crankshaft was bent and it would cost more to repair than replace. This was a brand new mower. The best part was he kindly "offered" to let us leave it there for their "trash" guy to pick up.. Riiight. I'll just leave my brand new mower for you to repair and sell in the guise of doing me a favor. How freaking crooked. I called another local repair shop and they took it for repair- $90 flat. Never. Ever. Again. I went here to pick up a new starter they had ordered for me about a week ago. I pulled in at 1:55 on a Saturday (they close at 2. Sorry, was busy today. Just had to pick up a part they had waiting, should take two minutes) - I saw a woman turning off the open and sign and rushing towards the door. The following happened: She tried to close the door in my face. I said "I'm sorry, you have a part waiting for me." And she said to me "hurry up." I said "excuse me!?! That's the way you talk to customers? I'll buy the part somewhere else." And started walking out the door, that's when a parts guy came and grabbed me, apologized, and starting walking me towards the part counter. Here's the best part - as I'm walking towards the parts counter, this woman is still yelling "yeah. That's how I talk to customers. Some customers understand a joke. Blah blah blah." This is a 40+ year old woman, not a 16 year old girl you would expect this behavior from. The parts guy apologized profusely and was clearly embarrassed by her behavior but by this point the damage is done. I'll never come back. Ever. read more

Extremely helpful and nice people. Today I brought in my Ryobi week whacker. They told me they don't service Ryobi because they're difficult products. They then, in an effort to be helpful, took it apart anyway and helped clean it up to get it working. They not only didn't charge me for the repair, they gave me a tool and showed me how to fix it again if it acts up, also for free! So nice and helpful. Great staff great owner. They've got me out of a pinch multiple times. Just one example- last mowing season I bent a bolt BAD on my Scag VR2 which made it unable to mow. I pulled into Billings (when they were still in downtown RO) 10 mins before they closed, expecting to have it back the next day most likely. Scott (the owner) got right to work and was able to remove the bolt; which wasn't easy because it was bent so bad. Replaced the bolt and I was out of there, with my machine ready to get back to work. Don't go to Home Depot. Because I did to buy a back pack leaf blower. I had no clue and no one was there to educate me. Got it home. Parts were missing and it was used. I returned it. Went to Billings thinking "shop local". So glad I did. Here prices are EXACTLY the same as the depot. BUT, Randy helped me and he is great. He educated me about the back back blowers. Let me even try a couple of them and use them. Explained how to care for it and assembled it, gassed it up for me for free. And he even told me of an inexpensive way to extend the warrantee. Among the worst customer experiences ever. Unfriendly. Dropped off my $150 lawn mower (when new 4 yrs ago) for a simple repair of a cable. Probably took them 5 minutes. They didn't give me an estimate - and now want me to pay $110 for this repair. Sickening. I'm so disgusted with myself that I didn't look around before coming here. Do yourself a favor and stay away. Old school store with the old school attitude. These guys make me laugh, they try to sell you a $10 dollar part for $20 and get an attitude when you aren't interested. Unfriendly and rude when answering the phone. When will retail stores learn that retail is dead? You've gotta do a lot more for me in terms of customer service when you're looking for a guy to spend more money than I would, for the same product found in 500 other places on the Intertubes.net. The game has changed, either step it up and change with the times or go the way of the rotary dial phone. they are the best. went to a closer store to fix a pull start for my snow blower. took pull start off the machine (cord broke, just needed new one and to be shown how to replace) they said it would be $36.00 plus parts to fix and it would 2-3 days before would be done. didn't want to wait and thought that was allot. drove to billings went to the counter and showed them what i needed, the man who waited on me (sorry can;t remember his name) went in the back brought a new cord, showed me how(while doing it) to replace it then charged me $2.00 for the cord. i will always go there, they are the best! thanks read more

I've read the negative reviews here, but I've had nothing but good service at Billings. I've bought a used yard vacuum and got it tuned up at Billings. Works better than new for half the price of buying new. I take my lawn mower blade every year to get sharpened, and they are always nice. They aren't a big box store, therefore they are not asking you to open a credit card card account (that will get hacked), they actually know what they specialize in, and their service department has reasonable prices and timelines if you think ahead. read more

When picking up my mower, I was surprised to find out that the manufacturer's warranty would not be honored because they claimed a "stick" had caused a belt to break... yet was given no evidence of said "stick" or a phone call before work was performed. Billlings has stayed in business all these years because of their amazing customer service. It is a 3rd generation family owned company. I have seen them go out of his way countless times for countless people. Everytime I visit I am greeted with a smile and a biscuit for my dog. It's really sad to see ignorant people try and smear Billing's good name. Awful service. I called first and waited on hold for 10 minutes. I called back and the lady said that they were busy so I drove down to the store instead. My first 5 minutes was wasted by this employee more concerned with proving I was wrong (in his mind) than helping me find a solution. Even the next employee over was rude to another Customer. A guy asked how much the oil was and , bothered by having to help someone, he responded with "good question I wish I knew, I don't know all the prices there are so many kinds" as he is standing at the computer which the customer just wanted him to check. (No prices on the shelf or bottle by the way.) I am the Store Manager at a large big box retailer and these two employees would not last a day in my store with that attitude. read more

I literally just left with a new ECHO PAS and some attachments. I couldn't be happier about the transaction. They were hosting the ECHO One Day Sale so I got 20% off of my total purchase. This sale happens once a year and rotates amongst ECHO distributors. Needless to say, I was ecstatic to find it locally this year. They are open until 6:00pm today, so, there is still time to get in on the deals if you hurry! Initially, I dealt with Rick. He is the owner. Once he got me written up, he turned me over to Jack. Nice guy. I happened to talk to Jack on the phone yesterday to confirm they had what I wanted in stock. I made an unexpected purchase while I was there which needed to be ordered. Jack offered to UPS it to my house. When I was dealing with the owner, I asked him to throw in a free ECHO hat. That sealed the deal! Little things like shipping something to your home or a free $10.00 hat will earn repeat customers for life. read more

I went in there today and was dealing with salesperson Jack Lockman. I was looking to buy a new zero turn mower and of course was asking different questions on all the product line he carries and what the differences were. I thought things were going okay although at times he did seem distracted and at two different points did leave me to tend to something else or someone else. Whan I was done talking with him I walked towards the exit but stopped off to the side and was looking at the blowers they have for sale and I could hear Jack talking with other staff and making comments that I was asking a million questions and made a point that I even sat on one of tem being a husqvarna mower and went on and on about it. What a jerk. He had no idea I was right around the corner listening to him. I will never step foot into this store again and I will tell anybody I know how they obviously do not like to be bothered by customers asking any questions that might help them out. Funny I thought they were in business to try and sell you stuff. I can tell you this... They will not be getting a dime of my money. I am looking at 8-9000 dollar machines not a $500 push mower or snowblower so you would think they would be glad to try and sell a 9K lawnmower at the end of November. I walked out the door without him even knowing I was right there in the same room listening to him. I should have walked right back in his face and simply said sorry for bothering you so much and handed him his brochure and business card back to signal I wouldnt be needing anything from them again. I drove 45 minutes out of my way after work to go to this place, what a waste. I can only imagine how they treat customers after they get your money, heck you dont even make it out the door and crap flies out of their mouthes. This is our first yelp review, we are rarely unsatisfied with our service anywhere to the extent where we feel the need to go public with it. However, our experience with Billings Lawn Equipment was horrible. Like all lawn mower repairs during season, it took 7-10 days to get the repair done and machine back. This was okay and expected, yet we did have to pay for a service to mow our lawn in the meantime. When the lawn mower was ready, we were called and told it was be $110 for repair. We paid and picked it up and discovered that it had the same stalling issue we had taken it in with. We could not make it through one mow. This happened on a Saturday at 2:30pm and unfortunately they close at 2pm and are closed on Sundays. We had no option but to finally just buy a new mower. When we called first thing Monday morning and explained what had happened to the lady answering the phone, she was incredibly rude and VERY defensive. She stated we should have called soon (not possible...). She would not discuss re-imbursement. We even hoped they could repair our snow blower, instead. However, she was unwilling to listen and even proceeded to hang up on us. Moral of the story, TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE, to a better place that at the minimal has professional and courteous customer care. read more
