We knew that by bringing him into our regular vets office his last moments would have been filled with anxiety and discomfort. Not only was Sarah the most compassionate vet we have ever met, but she walked us through the entire process and treated both my husband and I, as well as our dog (and other two dogs) with dignity and respect. The pricing was fair for his size and service performed. They were efficient and delicate. I cannot recommend them enough! For a mobile service they are absolutely phenomenal. The ashes took just slightly over a week to get back and we are very very happy to have our dog home. Thank you team.

My sweet baby (16 year old poodle) is near end of life. I called Dr. Curry's office to inquire…read moreabout home euthanasia and it took 5 days to receive a phone call back. The young woman that returned my call was so cold hearted, when I started to get teary trying to explain his conditions, she gave no sympathy. She just continued with her scripted speech on services they provide. Like it was a laundry list. I know it is hard to find good help, but if you do not like working with animal/animal parents, then go work somewhere else. She basically said they come to your home and give 2 injections (one sedation and one euthanasia) and then leave. Whole procedure take 45 min to 1 hr. When I asked do they help with cremation, she said "if that is what you want, it will cost more".....well of course I would expect that, but at least discuss options. Cold, heartless, lack of compassion. Would not recommend.

Every time I have brought my dog in, we have seen a different vet, which would be fine except for…read morethat we have received very different care from each vet. Some are fantastic and kind, and the vet techs are always lovely. When he was a puppy, the dr was so sweet and calm with him to make sure he had a positive experience. But then multiple times in the past year and a half my dog was seen by a dr that did not try to greet him, give him treats, or comfort him in any way. He initially was pretty calm in the vet but after having these experiences he is now terrified. He snapped at one of these vets while getting a shot because he was so scared (I have never seen him have this reaction to anything before) and the vet said nothing to me, just muzzled him and brought him to the back. I am fine with the muzzle and having him taken to the back, but I wish there was some kindness shown towards either of us. Now I assume there is a note about this incident in his file, which I understand from a safety standpoint, but in the two times we have gone in since this, the drs have immediately muzzled him and again not spent time greeting or treating him. I had taken him to a different animal hospital for a non-invasive procedure (something not as scary as shots) and although he was nervous being in the environment, all the staff showered him with love and he was fine unmuzzled. I don't think we will be able to return to Riverside since my dog is so afraid and frankly I feel uncomfortable, which is too bad considering that some of the staff is excellent.

My dog needs dental work. Which if you've ever had dental work on your pet, you know its not…read moreinexpensive. So I took him to the vet where he had prior dental work done. This vet told me I need to have an echocardiogram done before they would do the dental work. And this vet does not do echos. So I began making calls. Every place required a previsit before they would do an echo. So its yet one more cost added to the separate cost of the echocardiogram. Riverside was one of the places I called last week. I agreed to a previsit, and they asked me to send the dog's records. Which I did over the weekend. Now today, Carole (Scheduling Liaison) sent me an email telling me Dr. Ledoux is NOT accepting new patients for echos. Thanks. Thanks for wasting my time. And for not caring about me trying to take proper care of my dog. This dental will cost over, maybe well over $1000. And don't expect help or understanding here. Not like I asked for a discount or for them to do anything for other than their fees.

The contrast between the consistently exceptional service at my vet including yesterday in my…read morecurrent area and my horrific experiences at Newburyport Animal Hospital years ago has promoted to speak out about the PTSD at the latter. I only am writing this review so many years later because the website shows that Dr. Grillo still owns and operates the place. There is nothing to indicate that things have changed. My first experiences at Newbury were awesome on every level. I attribute the change to the large expansion a few years later. My perspective ties to my partner and I regularly joking about one of the "Facts of Life" stars calling a co-star a "greedy b----" when the covert effort of the latter to make a side deal tanked a reboot that otherwise would have been a sure thing. I had been happy with the care that I had been receiving and thought that Dr. Grillo and I had been on friendly terms. I noted that he both went to the home of my friends to put down their greyhound when the time had come and did not charge them. The story with my cat, who had been a patient for years, began with Grillo initially strongly believing that he was not ill and only discovering the kidney disease when I politely kept pushing the issue. Grillo did apologize. The regular expensive treatment continued for months. Grillo knew that my cat was like my child when he made me bring him in when the time came. He also was not very compassionate and charged me. The next incident came a few years later. A previously awesome cat sitter had traumatized my cats (including bringing a black lab contrary to my request to not do so and a completely unknown infant) into my house while sitting for 10 days. One of my two cats increasingly became aggressive despite my continuing to be as loving to him as I always had been. He eventually became feral, and I only got him out of my house by finding a wildlife expert willing to there and capture him. He refused the money that I repeatedly offered him. I had the expert bring my cat to Newbury as the next step. Grillo told me that the cat was well-behaved there and totally discounted my experience as well as my trauma regarding the whole manner. He was very judgmental regarding my refusal to both risk bringing that greatly loved cat back in my house and facing having to again find someone to capture him if he went nuts again as I was certain that he would. Despite Grillo knowing for years that I was a loving pawrent who had spent thousands during the extended illness of my first cat, he strongly implied that I had been abusing the cat that I literally was in tears over losing. The local animal rescue league absolutely refusing to take the cat resulted in my having to abandon him. Grillo pulled a full Blair by charging me for the couple of days that my cat had stayed with him. I had been a profitable client for years, and I doubt that keeping the cat cost Grillo more than a little food. I may even have sent some food with him. I considered refusing to pay and just walk away but wanted my other cat to continue being a client because the underlying care had been good. All of this concluded with a horrible experience when I was moving 90 minutes away. I boarded my cat with Newbury a few days before my move. My partner was going to pick him up on the day of the move to drive him to our new home. I paid for the stay when I dropped off my cat. I made it clear that I was doing so so that my partner would not need to pay when he came for the cat. I further paid what I thought was an unduly high amount to sedate my cat the morning of the move both to reduce the stress in him and so my partner would not have to deal with constant caterwauling on the drive to the new house. My partner called me from his cell while I was in the middle of the two teams of movers incessantly asking me where stuff went despite it being clear. (I found a box of shirts clearly labelled "bedroom" in my basement closet several months after the move.) My partner told me that Newbury receptionist kept demanding the boarding fee thst I already had paid. She acknowledged thst I had paid the fee after 15 minutes of arguing. My partner also told me that Newbury had forgotten to sedate the cat and only did so when my partner arrived. That was too late and my cat was too worked up about being put in the carrier and driven (not to mention moving to a new house) to do any good. Getting Grillo to subsequently discuss this was like pulling teeth. He shrugged off the demand for the boarding fee and asserted that I had received the sedation for which I had paid. He refused my request for a refund for the sedation even when I noted that it was worthless and would have been a nice gesture regarding the demand for the boarding fee. I will be moving back to the area but will not returning to Newbury. I am sure that they would not want me back after this. It is a clear case of taking the bad.
