We newly moved back to NH from CA with our 2 GSPs. I am so beyond pleased with this clinic and their staff. The front desk associate Patty was accommodating to quickly get us into a large room where both my dogs could be off leash. The vet assistant April was very kind in making sure that both of their medical history's were up to date. Dr. Senter was our vet and treated our dogs with the utmost kindness and care. Questionable diagnostic practice and procedures. We recently changed to Hampton Veterinary Hopital because they are closer to our home. The staff and doctors are very caring and compassionate. However, we recently brought our 11 yr. cat there because he began having problems with rapid onset of incontinence. After conducting blood tests and routine examination we were told by the Dr. that the likely cause was early onset of diabetes. Insulin and needles were prescribed which we obtained within a day. We gave him the first injection the following morning at 10:00 am. We noticed his breathing was a little increased. within an two hours his breathing became more rapid and difficult. Thinking that somehow it might be a reaction from the insulin we decided to bring him to the PortCity Veterinary Emergency Hospital since it was a Saturday and the Hampton Veterinary Hospital is closed on weekends. Upon arriving there, the Triage group immediately put him into an oxygen rich holding cell to help make him more comfortable. After examination and x-ray they told us that he was very sick. He had enlarged masses on both sides of his abdomen and potentially, fluid in his chest. After an ultrasound it was determined that His liver had several lesions, numerous cysts and, had enlarged to a point that it was pressing against his lungs. He apparently had fluid both in his chest cavity and lungs. Sadly, there was nothing they could do for him to resolve the problems long term so we made the decision to have him put to sleep. Although a correct diagnosis wouldn't have changed the outcome, we left our visit with Hampton Vet very hopeful that we had an answer and a plan to help him get better. 24hrs later we suffered from the sudden and unexpected loss of our beloved pet. We didn't have the chance to establish a long standing relationship with Hampton Vet Hospital so I can't comment about the overall care and treatment they provide in general. If we decide to adopt another kitten/cat it is unlikely we will return. In addition to the diagnostic expertise, going back would be too emotionally difficult. read more

Yesterday I called the office before bringing in my puppy for his neutering appointment because I'd been told he needed to be on an empty stomach before anesthesia and he'd nabbed a 'snack' on the street during his morning walk.. I was placed on hold but was treated to the following conversation.. If she's being a bitch, just cancel the fucking appointment.. HELLO! I can hear you! Wait! Is she that idiot who... (inaudible) No.. It's not that one.. HELLO HELLO! OMG, She fucking hung up! Can you believe it? I asked her nicely to hold on... At this point I hung up and called back.. The woman who picked up had 'just walked in the door'.. which I believe having been born yesterday.. I let her know I was incensed by the cursing and name calling..the complete lack of professionalism and empathy that one would hope for at a veterinary office. I later spoke to office manager, Shannon, when calling for records to be transferred out. She was polite and apologized profusely. The vet has not reached out, but I'm not surprised. A horrendously disrespectful tone such as this generally runs down from the top... Particularly in this time of covid, when pet owners drop off their animals outside and take it on faith that they're being treated gently, it's awful to think how such rough people are treating the animals in their care behind closed doors read more

Well, my experience has been very different from the previous poster's. A trainer had noticed that my boy dog had an unusual gait, and recommended that I take him to my vet for evaluation. We are new to the area, and had only been to this vet once before for annual shots and exam. The doctor looked him over and referred me to a specialist at the regional vet center, and then called me back several hours later on a Saturday afternoon to discuss the referral further. While at the specialist the following week, that vet discovered that he had "bloat", requiring emergency surgery, unrelated to the problem for which he had been referred. (Bloat arises suddenly and is rapidly fatal without surgery. This was not a missed diagnosis by my vet.) As I drove home, the Hampton vet called me and left a lengthy and sympathetic message, inviting me to call and talk if I had any questions. She called me again the next morning to ask how he was doing. Truly, she was a great source of emotional support. As far as being "pill pushers" and cross selling, I won't deny that there are opportunities to spend money. However, I do not feel pushed. In fact, when they told me about an improved version of medication we are using, the assistants agreed with me that I should use up my current supply before buying anything more. I feel very confident that my dogs are getting great and loving care at Hampton Vet, so much so that I continue to take my dogs there even though we have moved and there are other practices closer to where we now live. read more

I brought my dog in this afternoon to simply get a nail trim ($15). I have always done it (for all of my dogs I have had thought my life) but don't like doing it as I am scared to hit the quick because it is so painful for them. So I thought I would try get it done professionally. When at the vet they advised that she was so easy to do and I was lucky she had white nails as it is even easier. The vet tried to up sell me on a $400+ dental cleaning (my dog is 3 years old just for reference of age), which I respectfully declined. When we got home I noticed some blood marks on the floor. I took a closer look at my dogs nails and as it turned out the vet hit the quick on 7 NAILS!!!!!! I phoned and spoke to the vet who tried to give some excuses: nails had not been done before (I do them once a month), her nails were soft (not true). The vet asked me to bring her back in, which was impossible because I didn't plan for 2 vet trips for nail trim into my day, plus what are they going to do, the damage was already done. The vet finally said that she did the best she could. I advised that if this was the "best they could do, then I would not be returning". I posted a couple photos of my poor dogs nails (who is now constantly licking them because they are sore) on here so you can make your own decision. Just stating the facts. read more

As the previous reviewer states, my experiences at Hampton Veterinary Hospital have also been very different. I travel almost an hour with my two dogs to see Dr. McLellan. He is wonderful with our dogs. The staff is excellent and knowledgeable, especially Shannon the practice manager. They really care about their patients and family. I highly recommend them! read more

I don't know how anyone could have anything negetive to say about this place! The entire staff is so great! They're patient and understanding! My dogs are my children, and I feel like I'm visiting family when I go into their office. Shannon even held and comforted my first puppy after her spay; all wrapped up in a blanket! She is basically my dogs' aunt. Their pricing may be a little higher than other offices on the seacoast, but I wouldn't trust anyone else with my dogs, at this point... and lets be honest, the dogs are still way cheaper than kids! The second dog has her spay in a week, and I'm not even slightly concerned with how she will be treated. In fact, I'm sure she wont even want to come home, because they'll pamper her that much. read more

Our dog died at a local groomer on 6-21-18, and his body was brought to Hampton Veterinary Hospital. As they were not my regular vet they did not know my dog or our family. The care, compassion and kindness my daughter and I were shown when we came to say goodbye to our beloved Golden, was more than I could have imagined or expected. Despite the many vets around us, we bring our three cats down from York, Maine, to see Dr. Wendy Wentworth. She's worth following; she's knowledgeable, commonsensical about suggesting further treatment options (she doesn't push), and clearly loves animals and her work. Not sure what's up with a recent change of folks in the front office but she's always treated us and our cats very well. I highly recommend her practice. read more
