From the outside, you can see that the business size of the shopping area there is pretty big. It is easily seen from the road. Pre-Covid, the parking wasn't done the way it is now. Post-Covid, they have numbered parking spaces to park at. You can't just come in now. You'll have to text them from the parking spot and let them know you're there. When they're ready, they will come out to get the pet and you can then come in with them as well. The biggest sticking point with the parking is that it is pretty limited there, and there are some that occupy those spaces that aren't going there. I've seen some park there to go the Pak Mail store and even The Egg Bistro.
It had been a while since I was here, but I was here for an unfortunate reason in February 2022. Our dog Dobby was nearly 14 years old and started not feeling right. After bringing him in and having some tests done, he had hemangiosarcoma. In the end, we had to let him cross the rainbow bridge that day. It was very difficult, but they were very compassionate about that and allowed us to grieve there with him before he was put down. The fact that he was 14 years old though was quite an accomplishment since it was well past the life expectancy for the breed. It was great to get a card and his paw prints in the mail a few days later.
Fast forward to July 2023. We now have a new dog named Charlie. He is a maltipoo, so he was much smaller than Dobby was. He would have his first vet appointment here a few days later. Everything checked out fine for him on that visit. I did get pet insurance through Trupanion while he was young as it keeps the rates lower.
On February 4, 2025, Charlie was having a seizure. There were no indications that this had happened before. At that time, I called Strawbridge Animal Care to come in for an emergency. They said to come over and park in one of the numbered spots and them know we were there and this was an emergency. After we got there, the vet that was there for emergencies was away for lunch, so they weren't able to accommodate him, and we ended up having to go to Bay Beach Veterinary Emergency Hospital. This was the main reason for not giving a full five star rating.
On January 13, 2026, Charlie came in to be seen as he hadn't been eating and he was shaking. We don't know if there was some type of toxin or something else along those lines that may have caused it, but the labs did come back normal. He would come back in the following week on January 21, 2026. Everything checked out and we went ahead and did Charlie's annual wellness exam too, so we got quite a bit done in one visit.
Overall, the experiences have been pretty good here. There was that one hiccup that I noted above, but one time doesn't define it. If something like that had happened multiple times, that would be a different story. The staff overall have been attentive and actively listening to us, even the dog. If you're in this area of the city, this is a great place to bring your pets. It's even better that they have extended evening hours which don't see very often.
