I visited twice with a puppy for vaccines/exam and a urinary tract infection. PRO: Techs were very nice and sweet on both visits CONS: *Lobby is dark, empty and depressing. No pictures on the wall, no music, no cute animal anything. It feels tense and uncomfortable. *Receptionists are not friendly. They didn't say hello, make eye contact or acknowledge my pup. I don't expect a parade, but a "hi puppy" would be nice. *There is absolutely no rush to do anything. Paperwork, returning phone calls, getting meds, etc. I almost got the feeling that I was being made to wait on purpose *Dr. Bryan was one of the most awful vets I've ever encountered. I worked in the vet field for 20 years in 3 states and I can say 1000% he should not be a vet. He was rude, condescending and arrogant. He's a vet who does not want to be told there is another way other than his. He cares zero about the clients opinions and turns aggressive if you challenge him or ask questions. My pup had a urinary issue and Dr. Bryan did a urinalysis, which came back clean. He refused to listen to her symptoms though, and decided it was a potty training issue. He then proceeded to lecture me on how to do it. This was after talking to him and the assistant about me being a dog trainer and vet tech. When I told him that her symptoms were mimicking a uti, he got angry and pulled out the test results and told me "my machine doesn't lie". I don't appreciate being talked down to, especially when I took her to another vet the next day and she DID have a uti. *Charges for services not performed and doesn't talk to you about pricing beforehand. I was charged for a service that wasn't performed and charged for one that I didn't agree to. They refused to refund the second charge and told me the manager would call me back. It's been 6 weeks and I'm still waiting. *Recommends unhealthy, processed kibble. Dry kibble is literally the worst of all dog foods to feed. And here is a vet telling me that Purina Pro Plan is "great". I was floored. This food is one of the lowest rated foods in terms of ingredients, quality, environmental consciousness, animal testing/abuse and healthiness. So I'm supposed to trust this person with my animal's medical care, while he's in essence telling me to feed them McDonald's every day?? That's a big nope read more

Whether it's a life threatening emergency or a scheduled appointment it appears that the well being of animals means nothing to these people. If I could give 0 stars, I would. I had my dog's ears cropped here and was dissatisfied with the results. I did not get the crop that I wanted and after about 4 reposts, the doctor refused to continue posting my dog's ears even though they were not standing. I have since taken my dog to another vet that does war cropping, and my dog's ears are standing! I also was not happy with the front desk staff. At times, they were not very pleasant. I think this place is overpriced for the services the offer. I will NEVER return! read more

I took my new French bulldog puppy Gilbert last week to see dr. Bryan! My experience was wonderful! I was very pleased with the fact that when I called at 9:00 am they were able to give me an appointment at 1:00. 2 other vets I called in the area never even answered the phone!! Bobbi answered and was very pleasant and knew who I was when I came through the door!! The waiting area was clean and big. Everyone adored Gilbert and loved him up! They had an emergency that came in while we were waiting so my appointment took longer than expected, however, the staff along with Dr. Bryan were very apologetic and threw in a free ear cleaning and mite check for the inconvenience! And allowed me to go pick up my daughter from the bus and come back. Looking forward to my next visit. read more

Took my boy in to have a nail removed on Thursday. Which they did. Completely fine with that since I didn't have an appointment. Paid $550 again no problem. They asked me to bring him by on Saturday to make sure he was ok. First there is no sign on the door saying curbside only so I walk in the lady at the counter is rude telling me to get out. Then they come out and get him take him back for 5 minutes bring him back out and charge me $42.50. For what?!? Service has gone down hill. I won't be taking my dogs back here. They don't care about the animals just the dollars. read more

This place came recommended by one of my mother's colleagues for her to take her sick cat to. Since my mother had to work, I took her cat to Deep Creek Vet Hospital and let me tell you that these are the nicest vets I've met thus far. The staff here is friendly, they are knowledgeable and for the most part averagely priced. Unfortunately, my mom's cat had to be euthanized the same day I took her in, but the staff and the Vet (Dr Dove) and Vet Techs were so kind and caring that it made a very difficult and emotional situation a bit less so. I have 3 cats... I'm sure you can guess where I will be taking them. read more

I'll start with saying I'm a huge cat lady. My cats are my babies. As I type this they're being taken care of. Both of my cats have colitis and they're a mess. I, of course, was freaking out. As soon as I walked in I was helped. Quick paperwork. The place is clean and professional. The techs are so helpful and friendly. You can tell that animals are their passion. The doctor, who's name I'll get when I come to pick up my babies, was amazing. Helpful with pricing (because damn! The vet is expensive) and she truly understands animals. Everyone was so attentive and helpful. I can't explain any more how grateful I am to have chosen this vet. Best believe this is where I'll be taking my fur babies from now on. read more

Do NOT let them clean your dog's teeth under anesthesia. They over-sedated both of my dogs. One, they had to give epinephrine to because her heart rate dropped so low (she could have died) and the other one was so sedated (hours after the procedure) I had to monitor her heart rate and breathing until 01:30 a.m. the next morning at home before she was "out of the woods." I almost took her to the emergency vet clinic because of her heart rate dipping low and her breathing rate slowing but resorted to waking her up frequently by gently shaking her, talking to her, and rubbing her head and back to increase the heart rate and stimulate her breathing. (I am a former critical care R.N.) Finally, the medicine cleared her system enough that I felt comfortable leaving her side. We have always had our dogs' teeth cleaned under anesthesia without any problems until we used this vet (we had just recently moved to VA). This was a horrible experience for our family. We never went back to Deep Creek Vet Hospital after this. We changed our veterinarian immediately!! And yes, they charged us for the Epinephrine for THEIR over-sedation mistake. They had such a cavalier attitude about the whole thing, like it was no big deal. Due to this experience, I WILL NOT EVER allow my pets to undergo sedation for teeth cleaning again. EVER. I will drive 3 hours one way to take them out of town to have their teeth cleaned without sedation. read more

Just moved here and found this vet after a referral. Nice helpful staff. good friendly doctor. We are going here bc they do all services including grooming and boarding. I am content with vet services and Med rates. I am ok with boarding rates. I had our dog groomed washed trimmed and nails clipped. Good job! BUT the charge was $105... I am used to about $40 less. I checked other places since and this cost is very high. I WILL keep going but will never do grooming and cuts here again. read more

I was really impressed by the level of care that my dog, Hooch, has received from Deep Creek vet, Dr. Taylor and his team. Hooch has a broken leg, we had been seeing a different vet but we switched vets. Dr. Taylor took the time today to tell me exactly how he had done Hooch's splint, and how he cleaned his leg (he had dead fur and oil build up, especially between his toes, and an owie on his elbow). Also exactly how he had assessed the callus buildup (a good thing) around the fracture. He addressed every concern that I had. He even put a cute flower sticker on the vet wrap, he thought my kids would enjoy that. ;-) I'm very happy to have them overseeing Hooch's care. read more

Just wanted to leave a review since I'm moving out of the area. I've been taking my pups there for 8 years, for boarding and vet care. The staff and the doctors are wonderful and they really do care. When I lost one of my dogs a couple of years ago, they sent a sympathy card and made a donation in her memory to VA Tech's vet program. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is I feel that their prices for some things (namely veterinary procedures) are high, though I don't know how they compare with other places in the area. Boarding has always been reasonable and great. I'll miss them when I go. read more

We are new to the area and our cat became ill and we took him here (it was a Saturday and got in same day which is awesome).. However the wait was ridiculous. My husband spent over 3 hours there and my cat was severely dehydrated (among other issues) , and they couldn't help him with any kind of fluids (even under the skin ones) cause "it was too late in the day". We paid our outrageous bill and we're "referred" on to an emergency clinic. We got him fluids and that instantly helped him for the mean time. We did end up losing our sweet guy a few days later. I will never trust this vet clinic with my other pets nor would I recommend them to friends. read more

We adopted and were adopted almost three years ago by the most beautiful Norwegian Mountain Forest Cat, and of course the first thing we did was take her to a local (Chesapeake) veterinary. They immediately started telling us that since she was over three she needed to have her teeth cleaned and that would be between 800 and 1000 if she needed to have one pulled, and she needed this and that and this and that. And this was directly after I told them that I was unable to find work so we would need to keep out expenses basic. I was so upset that we left and didn't go back. THEN we found Deep Creek Veterinary Hospital, and WHAT a difference! They listened and understood about money being tight. They examined her, and said that she was healthy with clean teeth (grrrr - no need to put her under and spend $1000 after all), and they taught us how to handle her extremely long fur. Took my dog here for an emergency c section. Ended up losing 2 puppies in the process. Told me everything else was ok. This was a Wednesday night. Went back on Thursday for check up, we were told things look good. Went back Friday night to get puppies tails docked and the female puppies tail looked like a 3rd grader did it. The vet told us that he was embarrassed on the tail looking so bad. They did a check up on the mama dog (still friday night) and said no fever, she should be ok. She is not eating, but drinking water. If she get worse bring her back. SHE DIED SATURDAY NIGHT and NOW WE HAVE TO BOTTLE FEED 2 PUPPIES. WHAT DO I DO NOW........... read more

I have been a long standing customer of Deep Creek Veterinary Hospital, but have slowly backed off taking my pets there because they are too expensive, always trying to sell me something I don;t need, and nickel and diming me to death. The last time I was there, which was 3 months ago, I brought my 2 German Shephards to have them groomed. The vet gave me some sedatives to have them take 3 hours before I brought them in at 8am. So my dogs took them at 5am. When I went to pick up my dogs that afternoon, the groomer said they were unable to clip their nails or express their anal glands because my dogs were too anxious and wouldn't let them. I just assumed the groomer had waited too long after I brought my dogs in to be groomed and the sedatives had worn off. No big deal....4 sedatives and their cost wasted on that trip. No one on staff said anything about the next time I bring them in for grooming I should give them more than the previously recommended dosage because it wasn't working. Today, 9/7/2017, I bring my dogs in to get their nails and anal glands done, I give them the recommended sedatives that is the same amount I gave them last time, and the staff was able to do their nails and glands but said Dr. Stanley wanted to talk to me. He recommended I give them an extra sedative next time I bring them in. Where was he the last time this happened? Why didn't any of the staff say anything to him? That's just poor business, patient & customer care, and customer service. THEN, after they completed the nail clip and anal gland expression, they charged me $65 for something that should have been included in my last visit and the payment I gave them for grooming my dogs. Their grooming service includes nail trim and anal gland expression. What?!? I made a comment that today's services should be free but the two staff members and one vet that was standing either heard me and ignored me or I don't know what. Hello!?! Then Dr. Stanley tries to sell me a dog brush because my dogs are shedding their coat. That honestly the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I will never take my dogs their again...for anything. I have stuck with them for a long time and always joked about how I should have an allotment out of my pay just to them because I am in there so much, but the customer service, customer care, and follow-up for my pets just continues to go down hill. And their incessant act of always trying to sell me something I don't need has really just ruffled my feathers one time too many. So, Sayonara Deep Creek Vet Hospital. Great Vet! I take my Rotti & Cocker Spaniel here, I have seen most of the doctors throughout my years of going there and they are all great! My Rotti had several ear infections and allergy testing was recommended, fortunately I approved the testing and he is a much happier & healthier pup now that his allergy issues are resolved!
