Boarding my dog here is amazing. The staff seems very attentive to my dog. I know each tim i drop him off, he is in good hands.

I feel very conflicted about this place right now. My husband and I boarded our two dogs here back in October and had a great experience. We received regular updates and felt well informed throughout their stay. The only issue at that time was that one of our dogs developed conjunctivitis, but it was minor and easily treated. Unfortunately, our most recent experience was completely different. When I was on my way to drop off our dogs, I received a call from an employee who was laughing while telling me they actually close at 5:30, not 6 as stated on their website. While I understand that arriving close to closing isn't ideal, policies like that should be clearly communicated in advance. While we were away, my phone number stopped working. A few days into the trip, I called to check on our dogs and update my contact information. During that call, the employees I spoke with were again laughing throughout the conversation. I was placed on hold for about seven minutes, only to be told "they're fine" before the call was abruptly ended after I said thank you. I had to call back just to ensure my updated phone number was on file, and I clearly explained that my original number was no longer active. At some point during our trip, there was an incident that required one of my dogs to be removed from group play. However, I was never contacted at my updated number. This is what concerns me most. I feel that my ability to make decisions for my dog's care was taken away. Had I been informed, I could have arranged for a family member to pick him up or explored other options. Instead, he was in a crate for 20 hours a day for nearly a week. I quite frankly feel ill thinking about it. My concern is mostly about the inconsistency in care and professionalism. While our first experience was great, this visit felt careless and poorly handled. Because of this, I don't feel confident bringing my dogs back in the future. read more

My dog absolutely loves this place. She is obsessed with swimming so having an entire dog water park basically is perfect and the prices and people are great. A great place to help my dog decompress! My furry friend serves as a "therapy" dog for both my dad, who is bedbound after surviving a massive stroke, and us, as my dad's full-time caregivers. We couldn't be happier with Sterling Meadows! We've done daycare and boarding for our puppy and have nothing but great things to say. Sterling Meadows is the perfect place for our pup, Mika. In the past, she didnt do well at other boarding facilities and refused to eat. When we took her to Sterling Meadows, the staff was professional, friendly, and listened as I explained that Mika has a very hard time adjusting when we leave her at boarding facilities. They explained that they'd keep me informed if any issues arose. After a few days, a staff member called me and said that Mika was adjusting well, however she wasn't eating all of her food. They asked if I'd be ok if they sat with her and hand fed her...which I really appreciated. After that, Mika grew very comfortable with the staff and had no issues eating. Everyday we received pictures of Mika playing, which definitely allowed us to relax more while on vacation. We asked to have Mika bathed prior to picking her up. When we picked her up, I had never seen her fur so white and clean, and nearly all of her shedding undercoat was gone! It was the best bath/grooming she'd ever had! I just can't say enough good things about the friendly, attentive staff and the quality of care they provide for our furry friends. We'll be taking Mika to Sterling Meadows from now on! read more

I truly speak highly of this place! From their grooming services, to overnight boarding, this family owned business truly makes me feel at ease when dropping the dogs off. The best part is that all my surrounding family in Coastal Virginia also groom and board their dogs at Sterling Meadows too. It's a family thing! I am always greeted with a familiar and friendly smile from behind the counter which is always a plus because they begin to recognize their customers, which really deepens my loyalty towards. I love that the groomers themselves come out from behind and walk the boys over for their baths. You can really feel the personal touch they put into their services. Meeko is terrified of baths, but I never put up a battle when dropping him off. Bleu loves the pets he gets from them too, and is always excited to see them come out from behind the store. Seeing Sterling Meadows employees personalities surround the services they are able to provide has won me over. It shows that this business cares about their employees, and that the employees also care about their clientele, especially with them being able to retain so many local and loyal customers. We are a Sterling Meadow family, and highly recommend using this family owned business too! The best service for the worst event ever. First let me say that the staff there was amazing they were very kind and were on the spot for Cesar every second of his stay. I had to make a trip and my partner had to go too so poor Cesar had a trip to the Meadows. He was old and more ill than anyone knew and though they tried to get his meds into him he only became more ill. The staff over at the kennel kept him going for us until we got home. Unfortunately he died of heart failure later that day that we brought him home. There was nothing that they or I or the entire veterinary wing at the university could have done I am grateful to them and their facility for their gentle care and attendance. If I ever have another dog and need for a kennel arises I would certainly use and definitely recommend them as a good and safe place for a canine companion. read more

I picked up my 5 year old husky lab mix from being boarded for a few days on July 7 and she was sick with explosive diarrhea, not eating normally, and vomiting blood. We took her to an er vet who did a urine and fecal test and thought she was stressed from being boarded. She has been boarded in other states and has never been stressed from being boarded. He gave her amoxicillin and said when I boarded her again she should not play with the other dogs. The medicine seemed to help and she was perking up. I had a trip I could not cancel so I regrettably took her back with her medicine to be boarded again for a few days. I told them she was on a special wet diet, could not be around other dogs, and needed her medicine. When I picked her up on July 23 she was withdrawn and was very picky about eating her wet food so I was making her bland chicken and rice. August 19 she stopped eating all together and was soiling herself in her sleep. I took her to a different er vet where they did blood work and told me she had a bad infection and needed an ultrasound to determine what to do next. The tech there that came out to my car (where they have you wait) to do my dog's health history asked me when the symptoms started. I told her they started after she was boarded at Sterling Meadows for the 4th of July. She told me that they get a lot of dogs that have been boarded at Sterling meadows with problems and they end up dying. My children were also in my car with me and our dog and we were all shocked. She said to check their Facebook page to read some of the stories but said they were likely deleted. I asked the vet if what my dog had could be caused by something at the boarder and he said without a video showing someone feeding her something toxic like grapes there's no way to know for sure. He was concerned about her kidneys and sent us home with kidney food and medicine to try to get her to eat. She would not eat the wet kidney food. They called the next day to schedule an ultrasound but couldn't get us in until September 18. After that call I knew she wouldn't make it to September 18 and needed immediate care so I took her to a different er vet in Williamsburg to get more tests done. They gave us medicine to try but she refused because she was too far gone. The Williamsburg er vet said that her kidneys looked good and suggested we go to an internal medicine vet to determine what was going on. On August 23rd she was so atrophied, weak, in pain, and the 4th vet (our regular vet who was too booked to take us during this whole ordeal and kept saying to take her to the er vet) said she wasn't going to get better so we made the difficult decision to put her to sleep. We are all heartbroken! We are a military family and reviews matter since we don't know anyone to ask for recommendations. I read good and bad ones about this place but it seemed happier than others I had visited. I wish that the first vet did more tests so I didn't stupidly take her back and the vet tech from the second er vet would share what they are seeing in their office on here to warn pet parents but I know they can't post that publicly. Please do your research on this place. Ask your vet or a few different vets in the area who they suggest you board your dog with. Indeed.com had some interesting comments from past employees. This place is by far the best dog daycare and boarding in the entire area! We've been coming here for close to 10 years and even drove up from Florida to give our dog a break at her favorite place! Everyone here is super knowledgeable about pets and know how to show them a good time! Rates have increased pretty fast, but when you see how many dogs they can handle each day, it's worth it. Before anyone complains about their precious poopsie getting a scratch or cut from being here...realize, it's a DOG. The staff are all super quick to separate any fighting dogs and will let you know if they have any issues during the day. It's a dog daycare and they're all playing with each other. So if they get a scratch, that means they likely had a blast. Don't fault the business if your dog doesn't know how to behave, because they will do everything in their power to keep everyone safe and happy. Summer time = fun time! Huge pool area with waterworks and everything. We love it...we'll continue to come here weekly...and we wish we could carry it with us wherever we go from here! Sterling Meadows is one of the last good businesses in the VA Beach and we'll even keep driving out from south Chesapeake to give our big beast her day with friends! Well done guys!! read more

I took my basset hound here for the 1st time this weekend. I just wanted a bath,brush, ears, nails. No trim. I think referred to as deluxe. I picked him up and he smelled very good was very shiny! When we got home I checked him nails because I paid extra to have them filed and shaped in addition to trimmed. They don't even look trimmed at all. His back feet esp The inside of his ears are still just as dirty as when I took him in. So not done. I also requested and paid extra for them to do his teeth, last time he got his teeth (elsewhere) I could tell by the fresh smell & the shine on his teeth. He actually came home with some build up from a stick ot dirt or something. So I paid roughly $45 for half of what I wanted not to be done or to be done poorly. So first & last time. read more

I have nothing bad to say about Sterling Meadows! We used to bring our pup, Kai, for daycare about 2x/week & she LOVED it. She would even start pacing the backseat & crying when we pulled into the driveway. We got a second pup & stopped taking Kai bc she had a playmate at home. Fast forward about 6 months when we took the pups to be boarded for a night & the girls at the desk still remembered Kai! We never boarded our dogs before but the staff sent us pictures which definitely reassured us. I dropped both dogs off at daycare this morning & can't wait to hear how they were! I have 2 German shepherd dogs that have lots of energy. They have been going there since they were puppies. We bored and take them to daycare every week. They love swimming and playing with staff. They are completely exhausted when they get home. My dog's follow me in the morning whining and begging until I take them there.The staff is great. They treat your dog like family. First experience with Sterling Meadows this year after living in the area all my life, I've used several other boarding facilities and this one by far exceeds my expectations and provides wonderful care without the additional charges if you want your dog to be played with or out of its kennel while being boarded. I have 3 dogs, 1 is difficult and they were able to handle him without any problems. I also had them bathed after boarding, again excellent job with the grooming. We were visiting Virginia Beach and would not be able to have our dogs at our friends' home due to their dog. As our usual kennel was full for that particular weekend, friends said "use our kennel!" Usually, I do not like using a new place without fully checking them out first, but friends were providing a personal reference, so I thought that would be OK. So we made the call and Sterling Meadows had a spot for my two little dachshunds. I was able to provide their vet records and we were ready to go. When we drove up, we could see the fenced in dog playground where large breed dogs were romping and playing. So I thought we had made the right choice. The staff was warm and receptive and my dogs, who can sometimes be a bit skittish, went into the back with them easily. When we arrived the next day for pick-up, I could see my little dogs on the video camera, just hanging out in the kitchen. Apparently, that means they behaved well enough to be able to have the run of the back of the house (still secure). When my dogs came out, they were happy to see me (of course!) and the staff gave us a very good report about the dogs. read more

Way out in the farm land but provides your dog with a sense of home! Tucked away on a farm, this is where I regularly take my dog when I travel. The staff is very courteous and makes your feel welcomed. The dogs love everyone who works there! I usually get the deluxe package that includes play time and a special treat for my dog. My dog has separation anxiety and the staff does their best to calm him and make him feel like home. My dog thoroughly enjoys the new mini pools they installed. I usually get the bath to extend the time where I can pick him up. He always comes home smelling great and wearing a bandana. The only downside to this place is picking up your dog before 2 pm before getting charged another night. However, you can schedule your dog a bath to extend the pick up time until 5/6 I believe which is what I normally do. But the 2 pm pick up time is difficult when I am the only one who can pick him up and it's during working hours. read more

I have been taking my lab puppy here for a few months for doggy daycare and twice for weekend boarding. The staff has been great, always friendly with smiles on their faces. They seem to know most dogs by name and are always quick to answer questions. The kennel seems to run efficiently, with care for the animals. Our pup has also been groomed a handful of times and always smells and feels amazing afterwards. As for how our dog enjoys it: he LOVES going to daycare here! When at home he runs to our vehicles and gives the "are we going to daycare today?!" puppy eyes. He always rushes in to greet in staff with a wagging tail without looking back. I can't recommend Sterling Meadows enough! They remember the pet by name and always greet my shepherd with "Good Morning Molly!". They take the cutest holiday pictures and go above and beyond to make sure the animals are comfortable. I've taken my shepherd there since she was a puppy and she knows when I grab the leash, she gets to have the best day playing with her friends! We had plans for a weekend out of town and there was no way we could take the fur babies with us. We looked at different kennels online and asked around who was the best. Many people said this place so we decided to check it out one weekend for a tour. We walked right in the building and said hello at the front desk. They gave us a tour of the place as soon as we mentioned we were interested in having our pups boarded here a few days. The tour consisted of the kennel area and outside runs. The kennel area is pretty big. Each kennel can comfortably fit multiple pups and you get discounts if you do combine dogs per kennel. The outside runs are pretty big. There's always someone outside to keep an eye on the pups to make sure everyone gets along and keep the fun going on outside. Overall, the area is really clean. For all the dogs they keep a day, it really doesn't smell stinky like you would expect. With the tour done, we were convinced this was the place for our pups. We made a reservation since the place gets booked pretty quick. There's also a upcharge during the busier months, but I guess we got lucky since it was before Memorial Day. All the place asked prior to the pups getting there was to have the vet fax over some records and to have baggies of their food for their stay. We dropped off our pups during the morning and then they took them to the back sans any collar or harness. We got to leave their flea collar on, but off they went (sniff sniff... =[ ). Flash forward to pick up... We picked them up and they were all happy to see us! They were smelling fresh and looking extra cute with their bandanas since we requested a take home bath (best idea ever). We got their left over food and paid for their stay. We got some discounts for kenneling them together and paid under $200 for a 3 day deluxe stay with that take home bath. The deluxe stay meant a couple walks per day, time in the outside areas, and a frosty paws treat. Once we got home, the dogs were totally knocked out. I'm convince to use this place again. The only down side for us is that we had to rush to get back before the place closes at 6pm to pick them up or else they charge you another night. Traffic on the way was making us cut it close. Overall, the place is definitely affordable compared to what we looked in comparison and they treated our pups so well. Definitely a place to recommend to anyone who wants the professionals to look after and care for your furry loved ones. read more

This is definitely my favorite doggie daycare/boarding place in town, and I've tried several! I have a 10 month old Great Dane puppy, and I'll be the first to admit that I'm a super protective dog mom. Let's just say that making sure my 130 pound beast of a puppy doesn't knock anyone over, eat a small toddler or destroy the nearest non or non-edible object is a big task. One that I ONLY trust to Sterling Meadows. Even the drive in to Sterling Meadows makes me happy: picture rolling fields, a white picket fence, a gravel driveway and big fields with majestic horses. I wish I were kidding. Even my dog gets super excited whenever we pull up. The staff is super nice and personable, always courteous on the phone and answers all of my questions. They even took the time to call me when my dog was boarding and wasn't eating his food due to anxiety. They asked if they could put chicken and rice in his food to get him to eat, and didn't charge me for it, which I appreciated. I've found with certain other places in the area that they won't allow Bane to play with other because he is unaltered due to our vet's recommendations - but not at Sterling Meadows! He gets to romp around in puppy heaven while they make sure he isn't with unspayed females. All in all, I haven't been able to find a place that can even hold a candle to SM, and it's the only place that I feel comfortable leaving my dog for the weekend. Keep it up!! read more
