My dog loved the A Pup Above. My husband got there around 9:40am and the doors were already open. The staff member was nice and rang up our $80+ purchase. The next week I walked into the store same time same products. This time, a different staff member told me that they did not open for 15 minutes. She told me to put all my products back. No offer to hold them, no offer to sell me the $80 worth of products. I even had cookies in a "bag your cookies" package. She told me to put everything back. I don't know why she would treat me this way when just the week prior the other staff member was happy to sell my husband the products. I don't want to assume that it's because i was "ethnic" BUT why would you deny selling me products. As I returned the merchandise, there was no apology for asking me to come in 15 minutes. There was no offer to help me put the products back. She just stood there staring at me while I put everything back. I ended up buying my products directly from the manufacturer who also gave me a discount. I don't recommend shopping here unless you are sure they will sell to you.

I'm not one for sharing reviews but unfortunately the lady who worked the day we went to get dog…read morefood on Sat, July 17, 2021 was very rude and discriminated towards us which is something I can not ignore. My husband and I entered the store without masks. We did not see the small green note on the front door saying they required masks. We entered, got the food, stood at the register counter and petted the store cat while she rang up another customer. She obviously saw that we did not have masks on from the moment she made eye contact with us upon entering the store and while we stood in front of her at the counter, but after she finished ringing up the other customer, the customer was walking out of the store and he made a comment about wanting to hurry up to get home to watch the Trump rally. My husband and I laughed and I simply replied back to him saying that I didn't know Trump had a rally that day and I asked him were it was being held. Then immediately the woman working said in a very derogatory and rude tone, "WE DON'T TALK POLITICS IN THIS STORE!". First of all, we were not "talking politics". It was a very quick few sentence conversation about the rally being on and where it was being held, THAT WAS IT! Her remark and ignorant tone totally caught us off-guard. My husband immediately left the store as he did not want to continue with our purchase, then she quickly looks at me and in her continued rude and derogatory tone she asks me, "ARE YOU VACCINATED???". I made a curt reply and answered her, which I should have just ignored, then she starts to argue with me. The discrimination part is due to the fact that she only asked me about being vaccinated and not wearing a mask AFTER the brief conversation with the other customer mentioning Trump. She saw us walk in without masks on and we stood in front of her at the counter for a few minutes. She saw that we didn't have masks on yet she never said anything to us until after Trump's name was mentioned. It was quite obvious by her quick frustration and ignorant demeanor what prompted her rude attitude and questioning towards me. There is no denying it. I started to argue back but then I just wanted to get my dogs their food and get out of there. We were on vacation and purposely did not pack dog food since we knew we could get it there, otherwise I would have walked out without giving her my business. I don't care what political party you support, this type of ignorant attitude, unnecessary questioning and rudeness was ridiculous and uncalled for. This is not how you treat customers. It's unfortunate! When we return to the OBX we will be sure to never give them our business again! I have a feeling that she may have also lost future business from the other customer too.

By the end of the week they had him on a schedule, walking 3 times a week for a half hour, to train him to walk on a leash. Once he can do that (which may take a while, he's hard-headed :)) he is going to go on adventure walks with them, which are basically long hikes with 2-3 dogs at a time, that completely tire your pooch out. I have two walkers that work with my dog, and they are both awesome. They send me an email after every walk, with pictures of my dog and a progress report of how he's doing. They also are bonded and insured, and offer to keep keys to the house so they can come in while you are at work and exercise the pooch. And get this- it's $20 for the walk... and $5 for every extra 15 mins! And that is for one or two dogs... very reasonable. So much so that I can definitely afford the 3 days a week walking, and seeing my puppy so happy at the end of the day is worth it. Love these guys.

Unfortunately, my 3 boys (Ozzy, Tyler, and Bono) have since passed away, but my 2 new pups (Cannon and Hollywood) are still regular adventurers. They get to go hiking and swimming with Marti every couple of weeks - with Cannon generally finding some enormous stick or piece of trash to keep him entertained and Holly swimming laps in the river and playing chase with other dogs. They always come home happy and tired. There is a review posted from someone named "Matin" (which I assume is made up as it is a brand new account and contains false information) that says someone from Richmond Boxer Rescue steered him away from CA. I am the founder and president of RBR and a loyal client for almost 10 years now. Many of my fosters and volunteers use them and love them as well. NO ONE from my organization knows who this person is or said anything negative about CA, so that is a blatant lie. Review from 2010: I cannot say enough good things about Josh and Canine Adventure! Aside from actually being able to sometimes make my boxer, Ozzy, slightly tired (a nearly impossible feat), Josh was always reliable, responsible and ended up being a good friend! My own dogs (Ozzy, Tyler and Bono) were lucky to get Adventure Walks with him every week! The highlight of their week was seeing Josh pull up in front of the house! In addition to working with my own dogs, Josh graciously worked with my many fosters through Richmond Boxer Rescue. He donates his time to several other local rescue groups as well. The walks and training were an invaluable asset to the foster dogs as were the AMAZING photos he would take on the walks! We moved to the west coast but would still be loyal clients if we were in Richmond! I so wish there were a service like this available here!

They recently hosted an Easter egg hunt for dogs, and it was honestly such a fun and creative experience. They had been promoting it everywhere -- in-store, online, and at other events -- so I was actually a little surprised more people didn't come out, because this is definitely one of those events you don't want to miss. They hid little "eggs" throughout the store in small cups for the dogs to sniff out, which was such a cute and thoughtful idea. Inside were all-natural freeze-dried treats, and I have to say, they actually had a really good selection. Lexi had six to find, and watching her go around searching (with a little help from me ) was so much fun. What I also loved is that they made it fun for the pet parents too. They had a little cookie tray for the adults, along with sodas and candy, which was such a nice touch and made it feel even more welcoming and well thought out. And to make it even better -- Lexi ended up being the big winner of the night and won a $25 gift card, which made it even more exciting! One thing I really appreciate about Care-A-Lot is that they consistently put together events like this for the community. They do really fun seasonal events (their dog-friendly Halloween events are always a favorite too), and I would honestly hate for people to miss out on them because they truly put effort into making them special. If you have a dog, it's definitely worth checking their website and event schedule so you don't miss the next one. Beyond the events, the store itself is always a great experience. It's clean, well laid out, and easy to shop, and the staff is always friendly, pleasant, and helpful. I've even used their self-service dog wash station, and that was a great experience too -- very clean, very convenient, and the employees were super helpful. This is truly one of my favorite local pet stores to support. If you missed this event, definitely don't miss the next one. If you have a dog, it's definitely worth checking their website and event schedule so you don't miss the next one

That's exactly what happened to me when my cat had an upset stomach and his regular clinic was closed for the day. I was at a loss until I remembered the Armistead Avenue Veterinary Hospital, which was always bustling with activity. Although I was aware that I would have to wait due to their walk-in policy, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the clinic was still following COVID protocols. Thoughtful yet slightly inconvenient, the wait was worth it as the doctor was incredibly knowledgeable and put my mind at ease. The clinic was crowded, which isn't surprising given their popularity, but I was delighted to see that they were able to accommodate my furry friend in his time of need. After a wait of over two hours, I was given some suggestions and my mans didn't require any medication. If you're ever in need of a reliable veterinary clinic, look no further than Armistead Avenue Veterinary Hospital. You can find them at 531 N Armistead Ave in Hampton, VA, or give them a call at (757) 723-8571. Trust me, your furry friends will thank you for it!
