Birthday cupcake I brought for him
    Kelly M.

I was so afraid to leave my boy alone, but this place eased my mind! My boy does not get along well with others, and they assured me he would be out of his kennel, the same as the others, but not with them... I am so happy to know that he was not stuck in his kennel all day and all night. While I was gone, they knew his birthday was on Monday and they sent me these pictures... I will use them from now on!!!

The top of runs where dogs are kept at being up times

mm mm mm, where do I start...we'll I will give credit where credit is due. The staff itself is AMAZING. Each of them true and passionate about their jobs and the dogs. HOWEVER that can only make up but for so much for the joke that is ownership. They are constantly informed about broke and or failing equipment that they refuse to fix or replace because it's not in the budget, cutting the budget for cleaning supplies asking staff to use less cleaning chemical than it calls for to pinch a penny and stretch it out. No drains in the big dog yard for run off, broken drains in the other yards backing up producing crabs in the building. Yes you read that correctly, literal mud crabs. staples exposed in the turf where dogs play, countless holes in the turf exposing pebbles for dogs to chew on and swallow. Again staff has done everything in their power to address these things with little to no acknowledgment from the owners. In fact when addressed in a meeting staff was told to be quiet about their concerns and when staff refused to be quiet about these issues they were asked to leave. The high turn over rate is a result of the owners arrogance and greed. So if you're wondering why you may come in and see a new face almost everyday and there is no consis in employment know there is a reason for that and it isn't because people just don't want to work. they've been over worked, underpaid and ignored. If you want a place that provides a sense of security, consistency and urgency towards your pets health and overall well-being I highly suggest you look else where before your pet becomes victim to the owners negligence on spending money on new fancy paint jobs and gates to make it LOOK nice instead of the things that actually matter in regards to keeping the dogs safe.

    Burned paw pads

This place is beyond awful! The owners do not care about the animals brought to the facility! My dogs paw pads came completely off due to the excessive heat, splash pad and lack of enough breaks. They claim he had breaks but when a dog is hyper focused he needs to be removed from that environment. They said they would pay the vet bills because it is in fact employee neglect which I did not sign consent forms for that. Now they refuse to pay saying you can't prove it happened at the facility. I have a time stamped video of me picking him up and a time stamp video when I got home and saw his feet! He was not happy when I picked him up as his usual self DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE IF YOU LOVE THEM!!!!

Muddy Paws is a cool 'pet shop' in the Norfolk area off of Hampton Blvd. Its specialty seems to be organic food and treats for dogs, but they have a smaller supply of cat food/treats as well. The cutest thing about the store? The three little dachshunds I saw just lazily walking around the shop, too cute! They also have grooming and boarding, which looked like a nice and clean area (it looked all newly painted as well). The staff here was very friendly as well and were more than willing to explain the different vitamins and shampoos to me. I picked up a few treats for me dog; they have dog cookies, bones, chew toys, and more. This place is a little more on the expensive side, but the food is healthy and organic so it's worth the extra money for that special member of your family.

Jack smiles big at Doggy Daycare

I've always been a fan, and we still are. But more than that, our dog is in love with this place: I think his dream is to be a Muddy Paws shop dog. Probably not happening since he's a bull-boxer, and not a dachshund, but a pup can dream, eh? Yes, we finally, actually, have a dog. Which means we aren't buying the amazing dog treats at Muddy Paws for other people's dogs quite as much because Jack would give us the big sad pouty eyes with the whine and the head tilt and oh-buddy-boi-boo-who's-a-good-dog-you-are-you-are-that's-right! Have some kangaroo jerky. Good boy! Unlike Russia and Sarah Palin, I can ACTUALLY see Muddy Paws from my house. And if the dog had any leash manners, we'd walk over there lickity-split. But because traffic is insane and I like my shoulders not being dislocated, Jack gets to ride the whole 2.5 blocks in the back seat of the car, whining the whole way because he just wants to get to daycare to play. And play he does. Thanks to their hours, he can play for nearly 12 full hours for just over $20 -- or half a day or whenever. The daycare packages save you a little extra money, and there are some great sales sometimes, so buy in bulk. He always comes home exhausted and is more than happy to sleep it off for a couple of days. The staff are incredibly patient with his impatience. Not getting him behind the counter quickly enough? That's a barking. Not opening the door to the play yard? That's a barking. You want him to sit first? Ha! That's a jumping lick to the face. Even so, they take it in stride. You can't work there and not love dogs, and it's obvious that they LOVE dogs. Jack has also boarded with them over a couple of weekends. When he sees us packing up his overnight bag, he gets way more excited than usual. I think he thinks of it as a giant sleepover, and he's still super-happy to go back. He's clearly treated well. We've only had him groomed once, but he came back smelling delightful and looking handsome, so we have no complaints (nothing to gush about either -- it was a bath and a nail trim. It's hard to gush about that). They sent him home with a jaunty little green bandana around his neck. He seemed to put on some airs and started spouting stuff about buying railroads, so we took it off. So, if you live in the area or commute past it, Muddy Paws is a great place for your dog to spend the day (or a few days), and is sure to come home happy and tired.

FIVE STARS TO THE GROOMERS! My little puppy made a mess of himself and I came into Muddy Paws distraught and in a frenzy. The manager (Alana) was so sweet and helpful and shaved the matted, gross parts of fur off my Pomeranian and cleaned up the fur on his paws too. I couldn't believe how clean and back to normal he was! It was cute how Alana was talking to my puppy the whole time she was working on him, it seemed to calm him down (although he is a drama queen anyway!) I also went into the retail store to pick up some dry shampoo and to pay for the grooming. I assume the lady at the register with 5 dogs was the owner. Sorry, minus one star because her energy was negative and she was NOT pleasant. Perhaps a bad day? Oh well. Next time I'm in town, I'll be sure to visit the lovely grooming ladies with my pup! :)

I asked why they had small dogs with the bigger dogs and was told "the small dogs are too rambunctious to be with the other small dogs." I was told that staff had to break up my dog and the small dog and she was put into a kennel for the rest of the day but the dogs had never gotten physical. I pick my dog up and she has scratches and bite marks on her tummy and no one had called and told me. I called them and they said that they had no idea but that my dog was still welcome to come back. Never coming back here again.

I have been coming to this vet for at least 4 years now. In the beginning, I really loved this vet and highly recommended them to many friends. I even continued to go here despite moving much further away and being closer to several other vet options. But things have changed in the past year or so. I have noticed that the staff has changed entirely, so I can't help but think that there has possibly been a change in ownership or management. Prices have sky rocketed and professionalism has significantly decreased. I have had my final straw this past week. I had previously euthanized my pit bull at Friendship about 3 years ago because of a spinal injury. That experience was incredible and I was grateful for the amount of care the staff had put into our farewell to our precious dog. However, this year, I had to euthanize another elderly dog of mine, and the experience was absolutely horrible!!!! I got to the appointment early so that I could go in and speak with the receptionist (while my partner remained in the car with our dog). My intention was to preemptively fill out all paperwork and pay in advance. There were no customers at all in the waiting room, and there were two receptionist. Both appeared to be consumed by their computers. I announced myself and explained why I was there. Initially, the receptionist was kind, but then the other receptionist reminded her that she needed to hurry up to take her lunch break. She then proceeded to rush through my check-in, hurriedly filling out my paperwork, not even asking if I wanted any additional services/products for the cremation. I had to inject myself and insist on asking for a paw print. She didn't even ask me if I wanted to see what other products they had. Then other customers started arriving in the lobby, and it appeared that her attention was redirected. She never said another word to me while I was standing at the counter, so I just walked out and went back out to my car for my final moments with my dog. We brought her in at exactly the appointment time, and had to sit in the lobby temporarily. Then we were ushered into the same exam room that we previously put my pit bull down in. It's a specific room that has its own private exit so that dog parents don't have to exit through the lobby while emotional. While in there, the vet and assistant took awhile; so we sat there soaking in our last moments with our dog while have to overhear people yelling in the lobby at their pets. It was so uncomfortable. Most vets place a sign or candle out in the lobby to signal that a pet is being put down, and requesting silence. Not this place. The vet finally came in and had more paperwork for me to sign (even though I had asked to fill out all paperwork when I came in early). The assistant said "I'm going to take her to the back now". This scared me because she didn't say why. I had to protest to ask if she [my dog] was coming back or not. She carelessly said "oh yeah, she's just getting a catheter". It felt like she didn't understand why we were on edge and emotional. When she came back with our dog and the vet, they laid her down on a blanket and injected a sedative, then they left the room to give us time to say goodbye. In the midst of our farewell, the assistant came in and quickly laid down a plate of beef and rice in front of our dog. Our dog obviously started eating it quickly, but the sedation started to hit her after about 2 bites. She was immediately paralyzed in the face and was unable to chew and swallow properly. We had to listen to our dog choke and struggle in her last moments. It was devastating to watch, and I felt completely helpless. They took that last moment from us. I was trying to be strong as I'm heavily pregnant and my partner was extremely emotional in the moment, so I restrained my anger because I just wanted to be in that moment with my dog. The vet came back in and administered the final injection. When they went to leave the room again, the assistant asked how I wanted to pay... literally seconds after my dog died in my arms. I told her I would call and pay later. She went to leave, and I had to ask if we were able to use the private exit in the room because now there were signs on the door saying "do not use". She lazily said "oh sure". And that was it. I looked down at my dog who had beef, rice, and foam pouring out of her mouth. I had to cover it up with the blanket because it broke my heart to look at. That was my last moment with my girl and they ruined it.

This doggy daycare is the ultimate luxury retreat for pups--think canine country club with heart. From the moment I (Lexi the Bougie BT) strut through the doors, I'm treated like the royalty I am. The entire staff is amazing--genuinely loving, attentive, and totally in tune with every dog's personality. But the real stars of the show? Anthony and Michael, the owners, are top-tier, hands-on, always-on-site superheroes. They're there every single day--greeting us with love, making sure every detail is flawless, and creating an environment that feels like home... but better. But don't you worry, they even have cameras so that you can watch from home? And oh baby, the perks of this place: * Pool Days (yes, I splash with my squad) * Treat Parties * Photoshoots (hello, content!) * Outdoor Activities * My Boston Terrier crew--yes, I roll with a whole Boston gang! But that's not all... this place has a full-on doggy spa. * Nail trims * Ear cleanings * Teeth brushing * Luxurious baths and blowouts It's giving "spa day meets play day" and I'm absolutely here for it. And if you're traveling? No problem--they offer overnight accommodations so your pup can stay safe, comfy, and loved while you're away. No crates, no worries--just snuggles and structure. This isn't just doggy daycare--it's a lifestyle. A wellness center. A social club. A pampering palace. I go every day and I genuinely LOVE it.
