Our puppy after his procedure - they held him just as he started waking up to help him feel safe
    Leo R.

Dr. Wendy and Lori took great care of my little guy on both visits - they were friendly, personable, and really made an attempt to ease my puppy into everything they did. Also the fact that they come to you to perform the services made the whole process less stressful on our puppy and easier to accommodate with our schedules. I'll definitely be working with them on our puppy's needs in the future.

I absolutely love, love, love Dr. Smithey and Lori!!! I am so happy I found Homeside Mobile. This is the most positive experience I have ever had at a veterinarian. If my pets (Miley, Mia and Gizmo) could speak, I'm sure they would agree. What I loved the most was no travel time! They came to me. No struggling to get the dogs and cat into their crates, then struggling more to get all of those crates into the car, no listening to them whine and whimper all the way to the vet and then struggling to get them out of the car at the vets office. The minimal house call fee charged is a STEAL! Especially if you have multiple pets. You only pay the fee once, not per pet. I highly recommend this service for busy professionals like myself, those with mobility issues, seniors, etc. I was also impressed by Dr. Smithey's and her Veterinarian Technician Lori's "bedside manner". They treated each of my pets as if they were their own. Dr. Smithey is extremely knowledgeable and obviously takes great pride in what she does. She took the time to explain to me what she was doing and what she was checking for during the exam. She also took the time to answer all of my questions. I loved the fact that her responses weren't filled with scientific jargon nor rehearsed. They were in lay mans terms that I will easily be able to remember. She took extra care with Miley because she has a history of reacting to her vaccines. She pre-medicated her and then kept an extra eye on her while she vaccinated the other two just to make sure she was okay. Dr. Smithey even allowed my 2 year old granddaughter and her 2 year old play mate on board her customized mobile veterinary clinic for a tour. Again her and Lori's bedside manor shined! She gave each of the girls a stethoscope and let them listen to the dogs heart. They were simply over joyed at getting to play Doc McStuffin on real animals! I will definitely continue to use this service and recommend it to as many people as I can. Thanks Dr. Smithey and Lori for a wonderful experience and a job well done.

This service is incredible! They treat my dogs like family and are understanding of their nervous/anxious tendencies with veterinary exams.

We have been going to Paws for 4 years now and recently switched to get our dog's teeth cleaned elsewhere. Never again. Our dog runs highly anxious, yet at Paws, where he can constantly move in the aisles before and after his session, he is less hyped. Love that we don't need an appointment. It's just a short queue every time. Love that our meds are less expensive and we can buy individually or as needed. Love that the doctors are quick and easy-going and the nurses have treats to give. Our dog even got microchipped as a puppy, and he yelped once and then got a treat and loved everyone again.

But after having 3 different awful experiences with this woman I cannot stay silent. My first encounter with her that went awfully was when I had brought me and my moms new puppy and intended to carry him so he did not have a leash since I was conscious about him touching the floor and carts being I did not know how well they had been cleaned and he had no vaccines yet and I was unsure if his mother had any vaccines. She spoke down to me once again, forcing me to put a slip lead on him and put him in a cart despite me being uncomfortable with this.  The next time we had been late on our puppies vaccines and he had to restart his vaccine course to which this woman spoke down to me and my mother about how if we had come in earlier he wouldn't have had to restart and in general was rude and nasty.  This last experience that I had yesterday is by far the worst and inexcusable. My personal dog who is human reactive had been muzzled bc he is large and scary when he barks but has 0 bite history. I stood with him near the door to try and catch the woman and ask her about where we should stand because my dog sometimes barks at people. when she came out she very rudely told me people had been waiting and I couldnt cut in line. I expressed that i was trying to alert her to my dog and keep him from people to which he is reactive. She told me she would have to help the others first and that the line started in the back. I assured again that was fine and she started helping people to which my dog started screaming because he saw another dog and got excited so she told me to go wait on the other side. I moved me and my dog to the other side of the door behind a pillar and was giving him treats and praise for ignoring the people and dogs. She came back to told me I needed to wait around the other side of the building all the way at the end and she would get me. I waited out there for 20-30 minutes crying because she made me feel shamed for trying to properly keep my dog under control and everyone comfortable. My mother ended up coming to help me speak to someone because of the treatment and we went straight back to the manager to speak yo him and were placed in line. When we walked in she tried to make an excuse that she somehow didnt know I was waiting outside despite her telling me to wait there. Everyone was amazing and helped us perfectly fine until my mother was trying to check out at the front with some items she was purchasing and heard the front desk woman telling other customers to "watch out for the girl and her mom with the muzzle dog who was lunging at others" to which my mom had an argument with her and left. My mom called me and informed me she was up there speaking about us and the woman standing in line next to us informed me that she had also been given the same warning about me and my dog and I alerted the manager of this. As I was leaving she was once again speaking about me and my dog If you look at any other negative review of this clinic it mentioned this woman and her repeated behavior like this. So this begs the question: are some dogs inherently less deserving of vet care because of their reactivity and does this woman get to decide?

A strong word of warning about Dr. Ashley Powell and Animal Medical Center:…read more We took our dog in for an emergent but common procedure. He was diagnosed quickly and surgery was recommended (to be performed by Dr. Koegel). Hours go by with no updates so I called to find out what was going on. Dr. Ashley Powell (the co-owner of the practice) got on the phone to tell me our dog died during surgery and Dr. Koegel was upset so she sent her home. Dr. Powell gave an - we don't really know what happened the procedure itself went great he just didn't do well - explanation of what happened. We went in to say goodbye and during our second post-surgical interaction she said the same thing - no clear explanation of what happened. My husband and I are both in medicine and knew something was off here. On our THIRD conversation after demanding to know what transpired during the procedure step by step (and demanding to speak to the lead surgeon Dr. Koegel) we learned that Dr Koegel mistakenly cut into our dogs diaphragm and called Dr. Powell into the room to help stabilize him while Dr. Koegel attempted to suture the laceration. This unforced surgical error was what killed our dog (admitted by all parties in our 4th conversation). What is more disturbing to me than a mistake happening during a procedure is the lack of professionalism, transparency and ethics by Dr. Koegel and Dr. Powell at every step. Dr. Powell runs the practice and found it reasonable to send Dr Koegel home instead of doing the ethical thing of facing the family and explaining what happened and taking that responsibility. Most importantly, Dr. Powell was not honest during the first two conversations about what happened during the procedure even though she was in the room. Medical professionals have a solemn obligation to conduct themselves with integrity even in the tough moments and Drs. Powell & Koegel lack that fidelity. We can't accept the idea of something like this happening to another family so please reconsider your vet care - Dr. Powell also co-owns Ally Urgent Medical Care off North Great Neck Rd in addition to co-owning Animal Medical Center. Dr. Koegel has since left AMC.
