Not sure why reviewers are so opposed to this property. I had no issues. Clean hotel. Looks like rooms and bathrooms were recently updated. Front desk was friendly and efficient. Price was fair. Quick stay for one night on our road trip. Rooms are showing some wear but everything was clean. Staff masked. Breakfast was extra safe with each individual piece of bread wrapped separately. I realized I forgot my coat in the room immediately after checking out. The staff was super helpful and nice in allowing me back in the room to retrieve it. Good stay. read more

This hotel, like so many other hotels, hit hard times since the pandemic. "They cut the morning food staff and are just trying to stay afloat" said a staff member yesterday. The good news is that the hotel was full yesterday and our room was clean and functional. The challenge was that they have motorcycle parking right out the front door and my room faced the motorcycles. Then shortly after 6 am a half dozen of the motorcycles all started at once. It shouldn't carrier name associated with Hilton. The cleanliness was subpar. Things like the lamps on the wall are loosely falling apart. An awkward smell upon entering our room. No longer had that sticker showing that the room had been sanitized. Yeah they close the pool because of Covid which is the only reason why we stayed here on a long road trip. I wouldn't recommend a Hampton in to anyone ever. Be smart stay at a Holiday Inn there a different world in comparison to this crap hole. read more

The staff was pretty friendly. When you first walk in the first thing that hits you is a horrid moldy chlorine pool smell. And it is EVERYWHERE except mercifully in our room. The bed was the most comfortable bed I've had at a hotel and the rooms were clean but extremely dated complete with popcorn ceilings. The lobby is nice but upon closer inspection, the furniture was ripped and frayed. This place needs some serious updating and tlc. Not up to the usual Hilton brand standards. read more

I am a very loyal Hilton customer and frequently stay in Hampton Inn. this location is very downscale for a Hampton Inn. There was a very loud bass sound coming from an outdoor air conditioner that made sleep difficult. The rooms are very dated. No complaints about cleanliness or the staff. The showerhead was very difficult to manipulate, and sprayed erratically. Breakfast in the time of Covid-19 was a disaster. I'm sure they are doing their best under super stressful conditions but there was no water available without going back to my room and getting it from the bathroom. This is unacceptable. Even during a pandemic, bottled water is available or out it in a container with a spigot, buy a water cooler, something. The muffins were stale. The cereal selection, bread selection, and milk were great. Not sure if there are better choices in Mount Vernon Illinois but there are certainly better Hampton Inns. read more

Clean, but very dated. The front desk staff was kind and helpful. My double room was clean but furniture and TV is very worn. Remote control was a universal unit without guide and other features that a cable remote will have. The breakfast selections were hot but very limited. The coffee was good and hot. False advertising. We traveled from across the country staying in all Hampton Inn's. This is by far the worse. Pool was closed, they say due to covid, apparently covid only exists in Mount Vernon because all other pools in the area were open and all other Hampton Inn Pools were open. Run from this one. There are some many other nicer hotels in the area. read more

Not indicative of a Hilton property. Please leave anything of value behind. I'm a very fair reviewer, so understand it takes a lot to set me off like this! We paid for the jacuzzi suite but the tub didn't work. The front desk did nothing to make it right. Then valuables were stolen during a brief run for breakfast. We complained. Called customer service. No results. I think they knocked $10 off the room because the tub didn't work, but really? We lost over $1000 worth of property in that slum. I finally decided that rather than continuing to try to get the company to do something (after a year), I'd just tell the work what a horrible experience my wife and I had, and forever let go of my hate. That was a year ago and to this day I have entirely refused to ever stay at a Hampton Inn again. I used to be a Hilton Honors member and I travel A LOT for work. Any company that would treat customers this way frankly is not deserving of my time or business. Of course, I also recognize that it was in southern Illinois. Kind of a crummy low income place to start with. Toothless staff, cleaning crew lingering around outside smoking, humid muggy rooms, dirty carpets, and front desk "manager" who looked like she crawled out of a sack. This hotel is pretty old looking, but we just needed a place to stay so it worked fine. The bathroom was good and the room looked almost like a home instead of a hotel. They work with nearby restaurants and gave us a 10% discount if we ate there and just had to show our hotel key. We got free coffee in the morning. The accomodations are standard for a Hampton Inn, as far as cleanliness, bed comfort, etc. Water pressure is horrible and the Internet access is completely DREADFUL!!! The only Wi-Fi is in the lobby (supposedly soon to be in the guest rooms). Even with a hard wire connection in the room, the connection was SLOOOOW. If you are a VPN user, you will most likely NOT be able to connect to your VPN network. Could not get any work done throughout the length of my stay. Even as a faithful and loyal Hilton property traveler, I would not stay at this hotel again. read more

It should be closed or sold to a budget chain where the consumer can accurately anticipate the service and facility standards. Current Yelp rating of 3*s is too high. Unpleasant entry, filled with haphazard jumble of luggage carts; worn carpets; unprofessional appearance by staff; furniture from the '80s, no ESPN; cracked sink basin; rundown in nearly all aspects. Arrived after a 600 mile drive and reserved a single king room. My room was very comfortable and a place to relax after miserable drive. The lobby was clean and inviting although not comparable to the newer Hamptons I've had the pleasure of staying in. Lady at front desk was pleasant and professional. Invited to complimentary cocktails in the lobby until 6:30. As a beer guy only I found that the only offering was M. Lite, which not my idea of a beer. Lady seemed surprised when I said no thanks. There was a restaurant within walking distance which was great because I couldn't face getting back in the car. Plus show your room key and get a discount. Bed was comfortable and provided a good night's sleep. Bathroom extremely clean and well appointed. This may be on the low end of Hampton scale but don't pass it up. A good night's stay. Breakfast Buffett was as good as going to a restaurant. read more
