We stayed at Whittington Woods and were blessed to get to stay in their beautiful cabin. It was a amazing experience. Such a beautiful place. The campgrounds were lovely. Very well kept. The owners were such nice people. We had such a relaxing time. Would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to get away or for a special occasion. Very close to all amenities and restaurants. Very quiet and private. They have a salt water swimming pool. We will be back for sure

Nice installations but in the middle of nowhere! We just stopped on our way back home (FL). Just 5 sites are open and have all hook ups including water (pipes are heated to avoid freezing). Arrived on 1/5/15 and temperature at night was 10oF!!! It must be much nicer in summer. There is a huge lake (Rend Lake) close by that looks like great for fishing - Gun Creek Recreation area so much more activities with hot weather.

Very clean! Nice place. Under trees. Too bad it rained with thunder storms. Still a good place to stay.

We had to take cover in the women's shower, where we scared the cleaning lady to death when she walked in on our family of six and two dogs! Never a dull moment! We explored the area this time and checked out some of the other campgrounds. We found the main shower house for the South Sandusky Campground and used it instead of the one on our loop. It was WAY nicer and larger. There was a letter at the entry gate that told of updates throughout the different campgrounds but nothing in our loop. I hope that changes soon because there is space and a need for a bigger bathroom/shower house. Last time we stayed here they really seemed to enforce the rules, specifically quiet time. Our first night this year we were kept up until almost 1 am because of the drunken people two campsites down. We went and spoke to the people that oversee the campground and thankfully we didn't encounter that the rest of the trip. A little noise is expected, screaming and cars going up and down the road while your trying to sleep wasn't cutting it. It was super busy on the Friday and Saturday nights that we were there and things still seemed maintained. That was good. *Tip* Be sure to check out the spillway while your there. Beautiful, but watch out for snakes! We had a raccoon the first two nights. It ate 16 buns and two bags of chips. We had stuff on top of those totes and he still got into them. We used bungee cords the other nights and were okay. He also didn't care that we had two big dogs and that we were up around the fire. He just came right up and wanted to help himself.

This is a vast area of peninsulas and water. The campgrounds at Wayne Fitzgerrell are spacious and offer memorable vistas of the area. Each site is mostly level, equipped with electric hookups, and under shade, making it an RVer's dream come true. But the allure of Wayne Fitzgerrell extends beyond its scenic campgrounds. It is an outdoor enthusiast's wonderland. You can indulge in various activities, from hunting and fishing to horseback riding and hiking. As the sun dips below the horizon, gather around a crackling campfire, exchange stories under the starlit sky, and create memories that will last a lifetime. The facilities at Wayne Fitzgerrell? There's a lodge, cabins, a swimming pool, and tennis courts - in varying states of wear. The restrooms and showers were in a state of disrepair or run-down during our visit but these seem to be temporary conditions. Go and enjoy! The main hike is a short loop with incredible views! Pictures really don't do it justice. And pictures you'll want to take! It's an easy enough hike for all in the family, do wear hiking shoes, running shoes / sneakers, something more than shower slip ons and flip flops, as you'll want safety on the rocks. We were there in late July 2024, and construction had parking lots and trails closed or blocked, but we walked the road to another trail, which was just as beautiful and not popular at all. When we called down to make camping reservations I laughed at a lady who said their campsite closes after July 4th because "the bees take over the forest." Hiking that less popular trail, sure enough, millions of bees were humming in one of the rock structures, bee careful, bee safe! (We were perfectly fine, and crazy old lady wasn't so crazy afterall.) Garden of the Gods is similar to Wisconsin's Devil's Lake, but for those who have never been - put it on your Bucket List!

A reservation number was provided. I was asked to provide the expected time of check in and the reason for my travel. I reluctantly entered the reason as "to view solar eclipse" on April 8, 2024. The reason for my travel is none of Dan's business and in hindsight I shouldn't have provided it. Several hours later I get an email from Dan canceling the reservation with the statement, "The cabins are not available for eclipse viewing. We have something else planned for the eclipse viewing. Those dates should not have been available on the website. They should have been blocked off. That's a glitch." It was very unprofessional of Dan to cancel a reservation made on their own site with open availability and to inquire in to our personal travel plans. The cancelation was arbitrary and discriminatory. Regardless of what their own site says and allows you to do as far as making a reservation and providing payment, be aware Dan will backdoor your plans after you think you've made a reservation, even with a reservation number provided. This was a terrible business experience. Here's the real crux of the issue: The dates were not blocked off and were available For $115 per night. When he realized he can get so much more than that, Dan disallows my reservation. We'll see in the coming days/weeks what the new price is on those properties for those dates. Shame on Dan and Camp Manitowa.
