Loved this Koa. We were in a pond pull thru and it was perfect. Pretty level, full hookups including cable. And a nice view. Well equipped camp store--there's even a beauty shop in there and my neighbor says Karen gives a great hairCut. She'll cook for you too--we had the pulled chicken sandwiches and they were excellent. 2019 prices too. We'll be back.

Sorry, but no way, never again. Nice people, but the nice stops there....the transient spots are literally 20 or 30 yards away from the freeway (see pics)....got NO sleep with semi trucks hitting their air brakes all night long....looks like some permanent residents there too, in some not so nice trailers....sites are not concrete and way not level.

My husband and I needed a place to stay when my dad passed away in August of 2021. We moved from North Texas and stayed from the end of October through the 1St week of June. The staff of KOA are warm and friendly and caring. We enjoyed our stay. It's a quaint area close to eating, shopping, interstate. Nice walking trail, paddle boat rental, and you can order food from the kitchen and they will deliver it to your rig in a golf cart! The Barbque sandwiches are really good!! We highly recommend if you are looking for a place to stop on your trip! They will treat ya right!

Benton, Illinois KOA was a nice stop over for two nights heading to Columbia, Missouri on our journey to Yellowstone. We were located across from the main park in a special small section that was overlooking the catch and release fishing pond. We had the perfect site for viewing the peaceful pond. I had requested a really nice site to view the pond and they delivered on my request!! Thanks!! We were basically there with only two other campers the first night with no one on either side which was really nice. The second night more campers as the others left, but it was quiet and peaceful each day. We had a wonderful view from our motorhome window to sit inside, rest, and enjoy the pond. The outside was really hot throughout the day and night so most everyone chose to stay inside with our air conditioning. It was 90+ degrees with a heat index of 103. WOW!! The second night we took advantage of Karen's kitchen and ordered th BBQ rib dinner with a full slab of ribs and two sides for two. It was delicious!!! The BBQ sauce made the ribs so good...fall off the bone delicious. The baked beans were excellent as well and the potato salad. If you think as I do that you are a great BBQ rib griller and are hesitant...try their BBQ and you will be pleasantly surprised. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Our car battery was dead on our toad and thanks to the wonderful KOA staff they got us up and running. Thank you for a very pleasant stay at Benton KOA.

We had to take cover in the women's shower, where we scared the cleaning lady to death when she walked in on our family of six and two dogs! Never a dull moment! We explored the area this time and checked out some of the other campgrounds. We found the main shower house for the South Sandusky Campground and used it instead of the one on our loop. It was WAY nicer and larger. There was a letter at the entry gate that told of updates throughout the different campgrounds but nothing in our loop. I hope that changes soon because there is space and a need for a bigger bathroom/shower house. Last time we stayed here they really seemed to enforce the rules, specifically quiet time. Our first night this year we were kept up until almost 1 am because of the drunken people two campsites down. We went and spoke to the people that oversee the campground and thankfully we didn't encounter that the rest of the trip. A little noise is expected, screaming and cars going up and down the road while your trying to sleep wasn't cutting it. It was super busy on the Friday and Saturday nights that we were there and things still seemed maintained. That was good. *Tip* Be sure to check out the spillway while your there. Beautiful, but watch out for snakes! We had a raccoon the first two nights. It ate 16 buns and two bags of chips. We had stuff on top of those totes and he still got into them. We used bungee cords the other nights and were okay. He also didn't care that we had two big dogs and that we were up around the fire. He just came right up and wanted to help himself.

The main hike is a short loop with incredible views! Pictures really don't do it justice. And pictures you'll want to take! It's an easy enough hike for all in the family, do wear hiking shoes, running shoes / sneakers, something more than shower slip ons and flip flops, as you'll want safety on the rocks. We were there in late July 2024, and construction had parking lots and trails closed or blocked, but we walked the road to another trail, which was just as beautiful and not popular at all. When we called down to make camping reservations I laughed at a lady who said their campsite closes after July 4th because "the bees take over the forest." Hiking that less popular trail, sure enough, millions of bees were humming in one of the rock structures, bee careful, bee safe! (We were perfectly fine, and crazy old lady wasn't so crazy afterall.) Garden of the Gods is similar to Wisconsin's Devil's Lake, but for those who have never been - put it on your Bucket List!
