Ok so there's not that much I can say about the Hampton Chutney Co that hasnt already been said. This is the best place I have eaten in the Hamptons in a while. It's located in Amagansett which I like to call Zen Town. It has a great vibe to it, and I got a great vibe from almost everyone I met there.. Anyways the Hampton Chutney Company is hidden in the town square so it was a little hard to find, but don't let the hunt throw you off because it's worth every second. After asking a few friendly locals for directions we made our way to the square where we were teleported to a shabby chic garden in full bloom. You will really have to experience this for yourself to really understand, No matter what you order it will be a delicious experience. The food is great, especially considering the lack of ethnic cuisines in the hamptons. This review is directed more for those who think, like we did, that it is place that serves great Indian dosas. NO, IT IS NOT! The food here can be described as glorified American type sandwiches with dosa as just a wrap-on or ancillary. The food is not bad. It is ok. For those who've not had authentic dosas before, it might even taste great as the other reviews indicate. I understand this food has been designed specifically to cater to the American taste palette and hence almost zero flavor- minimal spice and salt. Just that as someone who's had authentic Indian dosas in Long island, and even NYC, there is no correlation between the images the names conjure and the food served. Just look up Google images separately for dosa and Thali. What they serve as soup(bland) is sambar. Some of the chutneys like the cilantro and tomato are good. If you're hungry and want to have some food and are not necessarily expecting quality Indian food, yes, you could try this place. But, if you are craving authentic South Indian food, with all the flavors and aromas usually associated with Indian food, you'll be bitterly disappointed. It's American food with Indian sounding names. And btw, the mango lassi is NOT recommended. Overall, expensive place with misleading name. read more

Great dosas. Last time I had dosas this good was in India. I tried the breakfast dosa and it was right up my alley. Crispy shell with warm egg, cheese, and spinach served with Chutney, of course! My wife had the sandwich, which was okay, clearly the dosa is the way to go. Indoor and outdoor seating options. Quick service with an automated buzzer system. No bathroom onsite, you have to walk a bit to a nearby port-o-John in the parking. It's at least a fancy one, you know, because it's Amagansett. read more

I've been to Hampton Chutney a few times, make it a point to stop by whenever I stay at my brother's place in Amagansett. It has always been a wonderful experience. Their dosas are simply delicious and their chutneys - mango being my favorite with the tomato a close second - are divine. Besides great food, I appreciate customer service and flexibility. The food here is great, but be prepared poor customer service and no flexibility. As the star rating indicates, "Meh. I've experienced better." As with any place in the Hamptons, it's trendy and way overpriced. The dining area is, small, uncomfortable and drafty in the winter. They serve a very small portion of chutney with your meal and you have only one choice. That kind of service makes for a very lame experience, especially considering that chutney is their specialty! The food tasted good, but nothing special. Drink selection is poor with only a few choices. No bathroom for customers. No parking. You have to park far away in town. Tables were filthy and not cleaned regularly. The staff was polite and the food came out quickly. read more

I ordered a #1, which was a curry potato dosa- not really ever having had one before and it was kind of funky- for lack of a better word. Think crepe meets Indian food. Hmm. Ate about 1/4 of it and I was done. Was a little surprised to see smoked turkey, avocado, mozzarella, and portabello mushrooms as listed ingredients on their menu. For the price, I wasn't impressed. This is a great place to get extremely good Dosas. The "classic" Dosa is not too spicy yet keeps all the savour of an authentic Dosa. The variation of Dosa which we took (chicken, arugula and onions) was very nice as well. Came across this place while walking along main st with friends... Outdoor seating under shade or out in the open. Place inside is small but u can order to stay or take home. Awesome chai ! The dosas are great, being a south indian myself I was pleasantly surprised, they are not greasy and the fillings are creative and delicious. The best thing about this place is the chutney, I loved their peanut chutney and it reminded of something my mum used to make at home. The mango and coconut chutneys were also great. There isn't much place to sit inside, but there are lots of picnic tables outside or just sit on the lawn outside. Our group loved it ! Great place for lunch or even breakfast. Love this place. I got hooked from the one on prince street. Lots of veggie options. Perfectly thin dosa. My favorite is the cilantro chutney. I also always ask for chopped chillis added to my dosa. Off Main Street in a small shopping center that surrounds a grassy area, this place is worth grabbing a bite to enjoy picnic-style. The gluten-free dosa is HUGE (good for sharing), but it's satisfying in a non-gluttonous type of way. I tried the curry chutney- it's smooth, creamy, and warmly spicy.
