Hampton chutney never disappoints I have been going there for 7 years a really great place

They only take orders over the phone which is not an issue just a FYI. Had the classic dosa and it was huge and delicious. I would recommend the more traditional flavors over the new ones. I'll be coming back for sure. read more

Chutney. Good, right? Dosas and South Indian food. Also good, yes? Yes. Put them together and you have a delicious combination that can be found at Hampton Chutney in Amagansett in the Hamptons. What started off as just a chutney company, Hampton Chutney has since expanded to a full menu restaurant with its original location in the Hamptons, and two locations in NYC. The menu mainly focuses on their dosas and uttapams, but you can also find sandwiches, salads and a number of sides and beverages.  I went for one their Grilled Portobello Mushroom Dosa (with Spinach and Balsamic Roasted Onions). You also choose a chutney of your choice, and I chose their Pumpkin. Both were a slam dunk. The dosa itself is thin, light, crisp along outsides and nice and soft around the filling. The portobellos are flavorful, plump, and go real nicely with the slight acidity of the balsamic onions and freshness of the spinach. But, the real star here was the chutney. It had a subtle sweetness and a really amazing spice and heat to it. Sweet and spicy, a winning combination. read more

We ordered delivery twice from Hampton Chutney Co. We tried the roasted chicken (with spinach, goat cheese, and tomato) dosa and uttapam. The flavor is great--as are the cilantro and tomato chutneys--though they fell apart fairly quickly! The cardamom iced coffee is quite good, too. Overall, a solid lunch spot in an area short on quality delivery options. read more

Guys. This place is EPIC. Love the breakfast and lunch dosas, the mango lassi is off the chains, the drinks are good (esp cardamom iced coffee and orange blossom lemonade), and the cilantro and curry chutneys are our favorite. If this place was by my house in LA, I would be there every single day. Daal is also exceptional. So, so good. Eat it at a shady picnic table and enjoy the charming square of Amagansett. read more

I will never go back to this restaurant. The food is nothing extraordinary and the service sucks. Everyone that works at this place was in a bad mood. We ordered a dish with portobello mushrooms, spinach and goat cheese, but they didn't put the goat cheese, when I asked them why they said the goat cheese was extra and we had to pay $2, which I don't have a problem paying, but they wanted to give us the cheese on the side, the beauty of goat cheese in this dish is when it's melted while cooking. The dish was dry and tasteless. They should had made another dish or given the goat cheese complimentary to make up for their mistake. Plus their seats are horrible inside. read more

Amazingly delicious. This is a great concept and the flavors are very unique. There was quite a wait when I stopped by in the summer but they give you a buzzer so you can hang out outside. The only small drawback is the layout inside does not seem optimal, it is strange where you order and its location near the door with people coming in and out, but as I mentioned you can wait outside :) read more

Horrible experience here, I understand we are in the middle of COVID but that's not an excuse to completely ignore all tweaks to an order or be super rude and frantic during pick up. I simply asked for our sandwiches to be cut in half and for the chutney to be put ON the sandwiches as we do not use single-use plastic (what the chutneys are served in unfortunately). The person I ordered from on the phone said both requests were fine. We picked up the order a whopping 45 minutes later and both of our asks were ignored. I went back into the store and asked them to cut the sandwiches and they said they couldn't touch them. Are we kidding? They weren't even unwrapped. Please stop using so much plastic and generating waste! You don't even offer recycling at the property either. Sad. read more

It's been a while since our last Hampton Chutney meal, and the food is even more exquisite than I remembered. Absolutely blown away by the delicious coconut chicken dosa, and the deluxe masala is a revelation. And of course, the chutney, complex flavors unlike the standard chutney fare. Ok, so I had never heard of dosas before coming here, and this seems like a random place in the world to try dosas for the first time. But seriously - where have these been all my life? Why have I not been eating them every day? And what really is the difference between dosa and uttapam? (I'll find that out one day and do a taste test war) I tried the grilled chicken with the mango chutney - do that. I need the mango chutney by the vat in my life. And add avocado to the grilled chicken while you are at it. Reasonable priced for large portions, and probably some of the healthiest food you can get in the area. There are a few seats indoors, but the bulk of the seating is outside. Gets busy during lunch, so expect 20 minutes or so for your food to come out, but well worth it. read more

This review is for Indians; skip if not. Do not come here for Indian food. If you are a weary traveler, especially with parents, this is not the right place. This is an unsalted dry, Crepe and the "chutneys" are sauces. Definitely no Sambar. You will be sad and unsatisfied with these options. HC has no pretenses of serving Indian food. It also has no pretenses of serving food. One can see a few sheep milling around grazing on par boiled veggies with a sprinkling of curry powder, even as they bleat on about how boringly grassy everything is. Particularly vile, are the accompanying chutneys which are either soured to emulate deep spoilage or rendered sickeningly sweet to induce disgust. Even lightweight Hare Krishnas reared in the Hamptons lose their suspect faith after dining here and run for the churches. Many summers ago, I had this wild idea that I'd spend the whole summer at the beach. I managed to land a job working as a nanny for a Manhattan family who 'summered' in the Hamptons. The month I worked for Mr. and Mrs. Whatever-their-names-were, was grim. The Nanny Diaries doesn't even skim the surface. I won't get into details, but I'll share that it was a bizarre experience, and I barely survived with my sanity and dignity intact. In any event, I quit after a strange altercation involving tennis lessons and ice cream. Instead of heading back home I applied for a job at the Hampton Chutney Co in Amagansett. I worked there for the rest of the summer and had an amazing time - a highlight was serving Kathleen Turner (her voice is as rich and deep as vintage port - or perhaps its more like the echo from deep within a dark cavern). I've never had a job where I ate so well - I tried every single dosa on the menu and tasted every single flavour of chutney and my palate never tired of any of it. A perfect morning would be to pick-up a cardamom infused coffee and a breakfast dosa with a chutney of your choosing, and head down to the ocean to watch the waves as the sun moves high up into the sky. The couple who started the business are both trained chef's who were inspired after a long trip through India to develop their own version of a traditional delight. Dosa's are hard to come by in most North American city's - so if you ever find yourself in a position to pick up one of their freshly made chutneys and custom ordered dosas, please leap at the chance. read more

This is a very sweet place that is located right inside of the Amagansett Square. In the summer, you can come in, pick up a Dosa (gluten-free), sit outside, and on occasion listen to live music or attend one of the many square fairs. The center of the square is perfect for the kids to run around while you finish off your mango juice, orange lemonade and other delectable take out Indian foods. This is not a sit-down waiter-served restaurant, but a very casual, a bit out-of-the-way place that you feel good about eating and feeding to your kids, albeit a tad pricey for what you get. Tip: The mango chutney is insanely good so ask for it when you order your dosa! read more

Stopped here with my pup + friends. I am so glad we found this place. Cute little outdoor seating and pet friendly. I can't even explain what I ate. It was a form of a crepe with chicken, avocado, lettuce, tomato and a mango sauce, to die for. It was huge, but not super filling because it was light. All I have to say is, PLEASE COME HERE AND TRY IT. We all raved about how delicious it was & how we would come back just to eat here. The 1 hour drive was totally worth it. Just when I was about to give up hope of finding decent food in Amagansett, I tried Hampton Chutney. (Yelpers, pat yourselves on the back. I went based on your recommendations.) It's GOOD! I had the seasonal dosa with grilled corn, roasted pepper, grilled onion, arugula, and jack cheese; I ate it with the mango chutney, which is a little spicy, but perfectly so. I also ordered an iced cardamom coffee. The dosa with chutney was delicious. I would get it again in a heartbeat, although I want to try other dosas, as well. My only suggestions for improvement would be to get better fans for inside the restaurant (which is really hot), and add a little variety to the chant/music/whatever is playing. I swear I had to listen to the same piece for half an hour. It's not that good! But the food makes up for it. read more

So I looked at the reviews and tried to think of what I could add. Sometimes, just sometimes, the reviews say it all and all you have to do is give your own thumbs up. This is one of those times. *Thumbs up* Dosa was delicous, ingredients were fresh, chutney was delicious, there are a lot of options on the menu (enough to please any palate) and it came out QUICK. They offer variety of combinations and everyone can find something they like - vegan/vegetarian/meat lovers all accompanied by fragrant spices and great vibe. By mistake my husband picked up the wrong order and we didn't realize until we've tried it...The manager immediately offered a replacement and was very kind about it. Don't let the size fool you. It goes down easy. Almost as customizable as a starbucks coffee you may choose your innards for your dosa. I happen to get spinach, turkey, fresh tomatoes, sun dried tomatoes, and onions. In the summer I choose a cilantro chutney (its like an indian dip with a curry kick) and in the fall i get the pumpkin chutney. I have a love/hate relationship with the tomato chutney as it always seems to kick my ass in spice. I am not good with spicey foods. In the summer get a cardamon tea, or a watermelonaide. Both quench the thirst, and are easy on the pocket book, even if it is the hamptons. This Amagansett staple is super kid friendly, and even the adults are seen tearing their food apart with their hands. HUGE menu with lots of choices besides dosas... owners are usually around to say hello. Personable staff that you see year after year. Even in the winter there can be a crowd.
