We just had a fantastic meal at Curry Queen including a delightful conversation with the owner! We loved her traditional curry, the lamb as great as were the shrimp, roti, and raita. read more

Another amazing dinner at The Curry Queen last night. I have a hard time remembering all the names, but we had an appetizer of vegetables fried in chick pea coating (Podolak?). It was sumptuous and delicious. For dinner, we had the garlic nan, which is always great, Vindaloo with shrimp, and Chettinad with Chicken. All amazing. The food is always freshly prepared, quiet, comfortable ambience, and excellent service. The owner/Cook, Nalini, pours her heart and soul into her grandmother's traditional recipes that have been passed down to her. A wonderful. Interesting person as well. Some history: I have eaten at probably 3 Indian restaurants in my life before discovering The Curry Queen. None of them caught my interest - I just didn't get it. But I like Thai curry, so we stumbled into the Curry Queen several years ago. OMG, the combination of spices is so interesting and tasty, the meat is lean, the menu is broad and varied, and vegetarian dishes are endless and delicious (I'm not vegetarian). It is a consistently wonderful experience. Shocking to find this in Old Saybrook. CT! The closest thing I've found to this level is an Indian restaurant in Northern Wales two years ago. If you're in CT, don't miss a chance to try The Curry Queen! read more

High costs. $25 each for chicken tikka and chicken masala as takeout? $18 for 2 garlic naan, etc. - seems different from original kitchen opened a few years ago. Sorry, not impressed with our chicken dishes either (bland) and breads hard. We desperately need them to pick up their game as the CT shore is very low on Indian cuisine spots. read more

Food was fresh and made on the spot. Service was also great good hole in the wall over all.

Excellent food, excellently cooked, good portions. Tasty, filling and so so good. I emjoy their Mango Lassi, yum!

AMAZING! The food was so delicious and full of flavor! This has become a new favorite place for me and my boyfriend. I can't wait to eat there again! So good so fire! The service was amazing as well! Very attentive and so kind when we first walked in, we felt like we were welcomed into someone's home, it felt very home like. The second we entered it smelled amazinggggggggggg so freakin good! The music was very nice, very spacious place. 10/10 recommend read more

The Curry Queen - Butter chicken, Garlic Cheese Naan Mango Lassi - Indian Near Me - Old Saybrook, Connecticut

Excellent food! Service was friendly and attentive. Make sure you inform staff of your spice preferences. They err on the side of caution. If you like spicy let them know and it will be outstanding! read more

Review for Curry Queen Curry Queen is the go-to spot when you're craving authentic Indian flavors, and their Manchurian Gobhi is absolutely out of this world--crispy, tangy, and perfectly spiced. The Aloo Cauliflower is another solid choice, packed with warm, comforting flavors that hit the spot every time. That said, be prepared: the portions are on the smaller side, and the prices are definitely on the high end. It's a bit of a trade-off, but when Curry Queen is the closest game in town for quality Indian cuisine, you learn to accept it. If you're after bold flavors and don't mind splurging a bit, Curry Queen is worth the visit. Four stars for taste and authenticity! Can't speak on service or dining in because I've only picked up and called my orders in. read more

We came here for a quick dinner. The spot is hidden away next to a strip mall, wouldn't find it unless you are looking for it. The place is clean and has plenty of seating inside. They have a takeout window directly outside so you don't have to come into the main dining room to get your order. We ordered a few dishes to share. Things were not off to a good start with the small plates. Gobi Manchurian - it was super heavy on the sauce and didn't taste like it was made fresh Chicken 65 - description claims "hot & spicy", there was none of that in this dish, a bit disappointing. Vegeterian samosas - these were good Main dishes - this is where the dinner made up for the shortcommings of the apps Lamb Korma: Very tasty and the lamb was done nicely Tandori Chicken: nicely cooked chicken and flavorful Garlic naan: nice and warm Overall - I would give this place another try, but I'll def. skip the small plates since they did not seem to be fresh and the flavors werent there. read more

The food was good at curry Queen. A little pricey for lunch and a little expensive for dinner many of the traditional favorites that you would expect to see at an Indian restaurant the Samosa chat delicious. read more

The is very good. We have there twice and can recommend the samosas and the cauliflower appetizers. They were delicious. So was lamb curry. The eggplant was to me bland. There so many other things to try on large menu. We found the service to be fine. It is located in an inconspicuous mall in Old Saybrook. The restaurant has no ambience. Have a Taj Mahal beer. If you like Indian food definitely try this restaurant. read more

This is one of our favorite places for Indian food in the area. The woman who owns it and does much of the cooking always makes a point to come out and see how everything is. We've never had to ask for anything to be fixed - but I expect she would want to do everything possible for you to enjoy the food. By far hers the best roti I've had around here. They are now introducing Southern Indian dishes - which I'm anxious to try. The dining room is pleasant, clean, and quiet. Give the place a shot! read more

My first time here. I ordered take out. Lamb curry with naan and vegetable samosas. The food was delicious. The servings were very generous with big chunks of melt in your mouth lamb. The naan was the best I ever had. Soft and fresh, fresh, fresh. The dough is obviously made daily. I have since had the aloo paratha and padhi chaat. Delicious. Don't let the prices deter you. The portions are VERY generous. If you are looking to try authentic Indian food...You've found it!! read more

This place is excellent, the food is fantastic! Cant wait to go again! Everything was well prepared and was super tasty. read more

This food is delicious. Cooked to your heat preference. We had the Paaleek Paneer and the Lamb Korma. It was just excellent and went well with the Mango Lassi. I highly recommend. Beautiful decor and excellent service. read more

Probably the best Indian restaurant around. It's really good! Been here many times and won't stop coming back.

Love it. Great lamb vindaloo. The Naan is good and many other dishes. Enthusiastically recommend

I got the chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. Both were incredible! I asked for medium spice and it was perfect, I was honestly expecting it to be a bit spicier. Can't wait to try more! read more

We didn't eat here. We chose our food, then I went to use the restroom. There was not soap in either. No soap just below the signs that said "Employees Must Wash Hands." Wash hands with what? I told the waiter and we left. Didn't want to take a chance. It was 3pm. read more

My wife and I have a favorite Indian food restaurant along the shore that we frequent. However, I enjoy trying out new or different places. When we noted that The Curry Queen had opened in Old Saybrook, we wanted to give it a try. We went on a cold Saturday night. Immediately upon entering, we were greater with a blazing fireplace making us feel welcome and right at home. The dining room was about half full of other diners. We noticed that the takeout area was accessed via a different door which is great,no cold air rushing in each time someone came to grab an order. We were seated quickly and settled in to check out the menu. There is currently no liquor service but you are welcome to byob without corkage fee. The owner did inform us that they will shortly be serving beer and wine. The menu is not nearly as extensive as we are used to but had a good selection of apps, mains, sides etc both with and without meat. We started with an order of Gobi Manchurian and chicken 65. Both were prepared in a different style then were are used to. The cauliflower was light, crispy and not covered in a thick sauce. We found it delightful. The chicken 65 was also not in a sauce but equally delicious. The only complaint was that neither had the heat level we are used to but more on that after. For dinner I had the chicken Rogan Josh and my wife had the Prawns Makhni, both were prepared expertly. I can't believe I am saying this but both dishes were light, not heavy as we are used to. You could taste all the spices . Like the apps, neither dish was spicy. There was plenty to eat with leftovers to take home. As we were finishing up, the owner herself stopped by. She made sure we enjoyed our dinner, told us about the upcoming liquor service and to invite us to try the south Indian buffet put out on Sunday afternoons. We asked about upping the heat level on our dishes next time and were happy to note that they are more then willing to accommodate. We will definitely be back to try some other dishes. read more

See all

First visit and very good and fresh. We ordered the Chicken 65, which was very tasty and a great way to stay out our meal. We then had the Butter Chicken and garlic Naan. Both freshly prepared and delicious. The server was very friendly and wanted to make sure that we enjoyed everything. We will be back! read more

We've ordered takeout from this place twice and were blown away both times. We've sampled the chicken tikka masala, paneer tikka masala, lamb vindaloo (INCREDIBLE if you like vinegar and palatable heat), garlic naan, and lemon rice (so flavorful) and everything has been top notch. Can't sing their praises more. We've had a lot of Indian food and you can truly taste the story, care, and quality behind the food in each dish. Can't wait to try more! Rogan Josh is next on the list. read more

I've been hearing so many great things about this pace, and I finally made it there today accompaniedby my cousin. In a nutshell, our expectations were wonderfully exceeded. We were expecting more of a takeout environment, but the immaculate dining room was more akin to fine dining with its linen napkins and table settings. The staff was not just friendly but outwardly appreciative of our patronage. With a menu of items overflowing with dishes unfamiliar to us, we relied upon our server to steer us in the right direction. We were not disappointed! Our food was absolutely delicious. I can't wait to go back! read more

Absolutely delicious! Such friendly service. Do not miss the ghee paratha or the chicken 65. I love that they have a separate entrance for takeout. The dine-in area looks very pleasant and inviting with a fireplace. They just need to fix their takeout container issue: plastic container lids split and cracked on the way home on two separate occasions making a mess, maybe because of the heat and stacking on top of one another. Otherwise, wonderful and will be returning again and again! read more

Friendly staff. Very knowledgeable waiter. Dishes well seasoned. A delightful dining experience. definitely going back. read more

Delicious food! Every plate was equally good. If you are looking for a local Indian Restaurant, The Curry Queen is your place!

Amazing food and incredible service! You're greeted by a lovely atmosphere with a crackling fire and the aroma of spices. It just gets better when the food comes out. DELICIOUS! we will definitely be adding this to our weekly restaurants. read more

Visited Curry Queen for the first time last night. Chicken Kirma was good but the garlic Naan was dry and hard, almost seemed to be a day or two old. We ordered beer with our mean (no drink menu) only to find out beers were $10 each when we received our bill which is way overpriced. read more

Have only ordered to-go but food is great! Portions are good as well. Service and time of order turnaround leave a little to be desired but wouldn't deter me from going back many times in the future. read more

I've been very happy with the Curry Queen and its saved me from traveling to Branford or Guilford from Westbrook to get good Indian food. I've only tried a few dishes, but what I've had has been very good. The chicken Korma was excellent and they were happy to give me extra Korma sauce as requested. The Aloo Paratha stuffed bread was also excellent. I like a thicker layer of the potatoes in the bread which is how they make it. Their cauliflower dish was also very good. I will continue to return there for my Indian food needs. read more

I'm so thrilled to have Curry Queen in Old Saybrook. It's a pop over the bridge from Old Lyme . The sauces on their chicken dishes are outstanding ! The veggie pakora is fresh and amazing . Bothe the eggplant and cauliflower are wonderful dishes as well . Even the rice is excellent You will not be disappointed read more

Stopped in for lunch and was immediately impressed with the decor and ambience. Had delicious Bread Pakora as an appetizer. I ordered Lamb Korma, and my wife had Baingan Bhartaa (eggplant). Both came with basmati rice and vegetable pakora. Could not be happier with the food and the total experience. Highly recommended. read more

Delicious, authentic food and a nice, clean restaurant. They also do takeout. We'll definitely be back!

From Time of order to when it was ready one hour but was told 15 minutes everyone else had the same issue

Five stars for the best Indian food we've had in a long time. Everything is fresh and made onsite from mango chutney to the pooris which we couldn't stop dipping in the delicious Punjabi Masoor Daal. We look forward to many meals at The Curry Queen. read more

This is the best Indian food in CT. Authentic and expertly prepared. We just got back from a two-week trip to India and honestly enjoyed the food here more than 90% of the restaurants there. Just go. read more

We love Curry Queen! My boyfriend has been to India seventeen times and loves Indian food (and is really good at making it himself). We love the food, the kind, warm service, and the simple, tasteful ambiance. I am not good with very spicy food, and I appreciate being able to choose between mild, medium, and spicy. Highly recommended! read more

Delicious meal and amazing service. Ordered dal, Palak paneer and tandoori shrimp... soooo good!

I cannot even begin to describe the most horrible food we were given. Shame on the cook for letting any of this out the door. Undercooked naan overcooked lentils. Needless to say it was thrown out. I am so sorry we wasted money on a meal that could not be eaten! All I can say is shame! Do not bother purchasing any food there. read more

This gem of a restaurant was recommended to me by a good friend. I went a few weeks ago and I go back whenever I am in the area. The best Indian food I have ever tasted! The chicken Tikka masala was fabulous and the samosas I had for an appetizer were just what I was craving. The food is delicious and the owner is very warm and welcoming! I will be back soon and bring friends. They now have their liquor license and have some wonderful Indian beer. read more
