This place for me dates back to the teen years of life. Growing up we were involved in lots of sports and this place was a STAPLE for after games or on a hot summer night! It's right on route 8 and close to Gibsonia, Valencia and Mars. They even have drive thru if the heat makes things harry. Ordered the special flavor of the week - Amaretto Vanilla Custard twist in a size small because ya girls gotta save room for an entire summer of sweets their custards, hard ice creams and food are exactly what you'd picture having from a cute local business. I hate to give this place three stars as it is adorable custard stand, and the service was great but my husband and I got two tornadoes with vanilla custard and we were so excited as we took our first bite as it was so creamy, but as we continued to eat it, we both notice that it lacked flavor. There was just no vanilla flavor to it at all. It just tasted very bland. I am hoping that this was just a mishap as this was our first time there maybe someone forgot to put the vanilla extract in with the custard mix. Hubby and I were driving from Pittsburgh to Butler and looking for a place to stop for lunch. I wanted ice cream, and he wanted a burger or sandwich. Then I found Hammer's on Yelp, and I knew we had to go there, because that's his last name. We ate our generous small ice cream cones first (two scoops!) and just had enough room in our stomachs to share a 6-inch sub stuffed with turkey and veggies. We sat on the porch listening to the music and watching a steady stream of customers. It was some of the mintiest mint chocolate chip ice cream I have ever had. Grand Concoursr. Pittsburgh, PA. We had 7pm reservations, and our dinners were served at 9:15. The mashed potatoes were congealed in a lump, same with the risotto. The entire meal was compensated, but the disappointment and hunger still linger. The food was awful.. We spent $ 45 dollars on two drinks and $12 on parking... so over them. read more

We stopped by in a whim as we love local businesses. I had the vegan nondairy vanilla custard. It was scoops not soft serve like my son's (see picture). It was the most amazing nondairy dessert I have ever had from anywhere, so creamy you won't be able to notice the difference! My son had the Georgia peach (flavor of the day). He was so knocked out about how good it was. We both wished we lived closer to buy the prepared pints. We also had a Pittsburgh cheesesteak, with peppers fries and coleslaw, and a pepper jack burger with all the trimmings. We stayed parked as the food there deserves your undivided attention. It was so good. We live almost 2 hours away and are already planning our next trip. If you want subs or sandwiches go inside they do not offer them through the drive through. Bring some cash for a tip! They are the only excuse we need to be in the area! The workers were helpful and very kind to 2 people from out of state who had no previous knowledge that there was a Pittsburgh version of a cheesesteak. It's a cute little road side shop that's easier seen when it's on you right side as you are driving. We did notice signs for it on our way past in the other direction. I'm a big fan of local ice cream stands. Hammer's was everything I was hoping for-it'll be my go-to spot this summer. I tried the Oreo tornado, which is their version of a blizzard, and it was loaded with crunchy Oreos. I was a big fan. Check out Hammer's for some good ice cream at great price! On our way to Butler PA we saw Hammer's and it reminded us of a ice cream place we use to go to when living in central PA. On our way back from dinner we decide to stop there for dessert. I had their pistachio almond ice cream which was chock full of almonds and quite good. My wife loved her black cherry ice cream as it had a lot of cherries and great flavor. My daughter had what she described as the best peanut butter ice cream she has had with the peanut butter and brownie ice cream! Stopped by Hammers on the way home from Butler to Gibsonia. The drive through window was great. Mark at the window was so friendly and we promptly received our cones, one chocolate and one twist. The ice cream was so creamy compared to other soft serve ice cream that we have had in the past and there have been many in the past. Seems like a good stop for a cold treat. We tried their custard - they serve chocolate, vanilla, and a flavor of the day. Besides that you can get hard ice cream, yogurts, sandwiches and who knows what else. The custard was good, though the flavors were subtle. The staff seemed friendly. I love Hammer's! My kids love the icecream and i think they have the best fresh cut french fries! So Delicious!

I gave them 4 stars only because of their desserts. One of my favorites (homemade potato chips) has been taken off the menu. The lady said she could still make them for me. $3.50 later I ended up with thickly sliced potatoes covered in hot oil. Their hot dogs used to be grilled, but now they are boiled. I think the food is over priced, but the ice cream is reasonable. However, I have never been disappointed in their assortment of hard ice cream, yogurt, and custard. They make blizzards, sundaes, apple dumplings and more! The small soft serve cone is huge! My favorite custard of the week is the black raspberry. Also, they will let you taste any of the ice creams before you buy. They have walk up window service and a drive thru. Oh, one more thing - you can only use credit cards if your bill is more than $5.00. read more

Ice cream is very reasonably priced. Very delectable. I have never tried any of their sandwiches or sides; only had desserts here. Would definitely recommend, and would definitely try their "real food" for lunch if I was in the Butler/Valencia area around mealtime. read more

My husband and I stopped by Hammer's the other day for a quick dinner. I had the Italian Sub and he had the All American Sub. Both were very tasty. A restaurants bread is always of the utmost importance to me. Hammer's roll for my sub did not dissappoint. It was a fresh, chewy italian roll that was delicious and worth stopping for that alone! I had a small soft serve custard that was quite large. Beware, the small drink is just that, small. Order a medium or a large soda, they are only pennies more. read more
