I couldn't be more pleased that my Office Manager at work chose Hamilton's for our work dinner meeting. My mom went before and raved about it, so I've been dying to try it out. Hamilton's Kitchen is located in the gorgeous Alfond Inn off New England Avenue in Winter Park. The offered free valet parking which was a plus. If you frequent the downtown Winter Park area, you must know how troublesome finding a parking spot can be! I was immediately impressed walking through the beautiful hotel with unique artwork surrounding you. There is a lounge you walk through to get to Hamilton's Kitchen that offers dining tables and a bar.
I went with a group of four, so I was lucky in getting to try many menu items in one trip.
For starters, we sampled the meatballs that were in a thick red sauce and were very tasty. We also had a charcuterie board which had cheese, sliced meats, baguette slices, and a grainy mustard. All together the items meshed perfectly- a harmony of flavors! My favorite appetizer was the Truffle Mac'n Cheese. Wasn't quite sure what is was at first, they were deep fried ball shaped with a dab of aioli on top. Then when you cut into them, happiness occurs! White cheddar and little ditalini noodles comes pouring out. They are heavenly!
For my entree, I chose the Pan Seared Lemon Pepper Crusted Salmon. It comes on a bed on Cannellini beans and topped with fresh baby greens. The fish was superb. It was cooked to perfection. My co-worker got the Steak & Frites- which included a Coulette Steak and truffle fries. I tried some of hers (since I almost chose it for myself) and it was excellent as well. My other co-worker tried their special which was lamb chops. I myself don't indulge, but she ate every bite and said it was amazing.
Then, we couldn't leave without giving the desserts a whirl. I ordered the mango sorbet, which was the only item of the evening that didn't agree with my tastebuds. However, the owner of our company ordered the dessert sampler- which was definitely the way to go! It had 4 mini cannolis, 4 decandent brownies with a small dollop of whipped cream, chocolates pieces, and a caramel drizzle- yum! The real show stopper however had to be these little slices of almond cake that had the most delicious pistachio mouse and a layer of dark chocolate on top. By far one of the best desserts I've tried in a long time.
Overall, Hamilton's Kitchen is a hidden gem, and I already cannot wait to go back! The only reason why I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 was the service. Being a fancier joint, I expected a little more from the wait staff. Our waiter confessed he was "new", he wasn't very familiar with menu items when we asked questions, and took off for long periods and was no where in sight. This was the only drawback of the evening, but the exemplary food definitely made up for it. Hamilton's Kitchen is a Farm To Table restaurant. I try to frequent as many of these types of restaurants when I can and am very excited when I find another one in town. Also, they are pet friendly at Hamilton's on the patio which I am also excited to come back and bring my pup. The patio was absolutely stunning. It had lights and fireplace tables that lit up the night. Or you could simply sit back and take in the charming architecture of the hotel. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. If you're looking to be impressed, Hamilton's has it all. read more
