I joined two friends at the restaurant, and they had already been there for about 15-20 minutes around 12:30. When I arrived, they had received neither food nor drink (not even water), and that was because a waiter had not come over to the table yet. I was there for another 15, and a waiter still had not come over. By that point, the party had been there for about 30-40 minutes. From what we could tell there was only one server working. Ambience was fine. They were out of a certain coffee, so they offered another which is fine, and when our food came around 1:50, one of the plates had to be sent back because a steak that had been ordered medium rare came to the table well done/overdone. Eventually there was a second person working, but when the steak was sent back, they did not understand why it was being sent back, and thought we were just done with the plate. By the end of the meal, the total was $99 and change, which was confusing to us as with the three meals (priced at $16, $16, and $26), and a cold coffee (which could not have been more than $10), if you included tax, it should have been no more than $80. We did not ask for a receipt because by this point in time (around 2:20), we just wanted to get out of there as the restaurant had been meant for a quick meal before a member of our party had to leave. I came by this establishment on Sunday afternoon with a friend to catch up. They have happy hour from 3 to 8 PM. I had the Berry in the Cloud cocktail, which was absolutely delicious and a lemon drops which also did not disappoint. For food, my friend loved the steak sandwich, which came with garlic truffle fries. I opted for the chicken sandwich, which had a perfect blend of fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, and a great seasoning. I was super impressed and happy with the roasted potatoes/home fries because, most places don't season their potatoes, but theses were perfectly seasoned and cooked! We are at the bar and food was prepared quickly. I'm not against the Hamilton Omelette, but it was just "blah." The blueberry pancakes were excellent with fresh fruit on them! My latte was delicious! Wait time for food was a little bit over half an hour. Waited 15 minutes for a waitress to come take our order. Waited another 20 minutes for the food to come out. I would have left already had I not been out with a group of people. The dinner menu for food doesn't have a good variety. The lunch menu is probably better. I should have ordered from there because you are still allowed to order from the lunch menu during dinner time. Some of the items on the lunch menu are cheaper. My salmon was not worth it for $24 plus tax. There was supposed to be quinoa included in the dish, but there were only sprinkles of quinoa (barely any). There was a $12 special for bbq pork sliders and beef sliders. The beef sliders were alright. The bbq pork sliders were delicious! The sliders had some Cole slaw on it. The sliders came in three and are on the smaller side but are worth it. There was a huge party happening in the other room and not many customers at other tables. I am wondering whether the service was so slow because of the party or the place is just understaffed. There were more people at the bar. There are two sides to this place separated by a brick wall: bar and high tops on the left, seated dining on the right. The decor isn't anything special, but it's spacious, and you won't be eating on top of each other. They typically decorate for some holidays, so that's a cute touch as well. I've only ever had the chicken club and the lox spread, but both were decent and well-priced. I usually come here for after-work drinks. The head bartender, Jorge, and Mariana really know what they're doing. My personal favorites are the Berries In the Cloud (sweet and fruity with a cider foam - for those who don't want to taste the alcohol), the Smokey Pineapple (sweet with the kick of mezcal that is presented with a cool burnt cherry wood smoke), and Jorge's Negroni (a nice twist on a classic that is, of course, very liquor forward, but is nicely disguised with the grapefruit). My partner likes to get a mezcal Manhattan here, which he claims is better than the classic. Edit: changing to 5 stars now that I've come back a few times and eaten more of the food. Updating my review based on the last time I was here because I made it a point to warn the public. Unfortunately, I must downgrade my review based on the experience I had here a while back. Hamilton's used to be a friendly neighborhood cafe where you can go, grab a bite, somewhat decent coffee for an overpriced ticket but not in a way that you care because the atmosphere is relaxing, comfortable, and the service was pretty good. The last time I was here, I bought a small iced green tea (little over 5$) and sat down ready to plug my laptop in and do some work or studying or whatever I was focused on that day only to discover they have volitionally disabled all the outlets! I asked if there were any working to the male employee working that day and he rudely replied "no! We don't have to give you outlets, wifi nothing. We gave you a drink you paid for, that's it. If you don't like it then go home." Which was uncalled for as I presented myself in the most polite way possible and was only asking a question. Definitely avoid this place. I am not sure if the ownership has changed or their focus has just shifted away from customer service, but definitely not the same vibe it used to have. read more

This is one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants/cafés. I literally do not understand why previous reviews are so negative. I encourage those who also have positive experiences here to rate this place higher because they deserve to be seen in a better light. Every time I come in, I always get a friendly smile and welcome. It's very casual, which I like. The food menu has a lot of varied options of typical items like salads, burgers, wraps, and sandwiches, but the best part is that they're made well and have unique toppings and insides. Favorite menu items include: Eggs Benedict and their chicken pesto panini. I also got their breakfast burger and died inside because it was so good. Coffee is always solid and fresh, and the cappuccinos are okay...I'm very particular about my caps and they're not out of this world, but they're pretty solid. Lastly, this place is always good if you need to grab a baked good and coffee to-go. Their muffins are delicious - not too sweet and perfectly airy, and their croissants are good. Went here with coworkers for a work lunch. I ordered the crab cake sandwich and sweet potato fries with honey mustard and an orange juice. The best thing was the orange juice and the honey mustard. I am a sauce gal and the chipotle sauce that I smeared on my crab cake had no taste the crab cake which I am sure was frozen and warm up had no flavor. The fries good. I was not impressed and nor was I impressed with the service of the waitress. Very dry and did not say excuse me to my coworker when reaching across the table to pick up my empty plate. They changed for the worst!!! Apparently on 2/1/20, they changed their name to Hamilton's Cafe and Restaurant". They're just awful now. As of today, 2/17, they have no menu for their food. It used to be hanging on the wall-that is no longer. They also have no website to look at a menu. There is no menu for this place. I found a menu on door dash after searching and ordered what I used to get. The price went up so much on all of their food items! And it's not even worth it. I was starving though and came here to get work done as usual so I went ahead and got the expensive food anyways. I let the cashier know where I would be and he informed me that only the front section is for doing work/self-service. He also informed me that the upstairs was available. My friend called ahead of time to make sure it wasn't busy-they said it wasn't. It was. *Also-just so everyone knows, the punch card only works on drinks, not food. Because there was no where to sit, even though the whole other side was open but was "table service only", I had to ask for a refund. They took away the comfy chair section. Cannot stress enough how great of a neighborhood place this is. Came in on a whim for happy hour and decided to celebrate my birthday here a week later with friends. When we had a few people than the original reservation they were very accommodating and set us up in the back. Food was great, service was excellent and we were really loving everything from the 90s music to the Oyster Happy Hour Special. Came back on my birthday for a solo drink and it still slaps. I came to Harlem to visit dome friends and this place caught my eyes due to their extreme selection of avocado toast- a favorite of mine! I walked in and was seated quickly. After over ten minutes of not being attended to at all I stopped one of the servers and asked could I be helped. She told me that she would go get my server. She returned saying my server was in the bathroom and would be with me shortly. About 5-7 minute wait the same server I stopped perviously said she could take my order. I waited about 15 mins for my food, not too bad. I got the avocado toast with just tomatoes. I did not enjoy it. It seemed like the avocado was mixed with something or maybe it was the tomatoes but either way it was appealing to me. The next day I came back again with two friends, Again we waited over 15 minutes before I stopped someone and asked where was our sever. Food took another 20-25 mins (had to stop the sever and ask for updates). I got the cheese pizza this time and I loved it. My friends got chicken and waffles and loved the chicken but said the waffle was hard. After plans flew thru at nearby Riverside Park, we happened on this place, which at 6:30 and ample outside seating, had plenty tables open. Prices are reasonable & drinks were nicely strong & tasty- as were the wings and spinach artichoke dip (was excellent!) - but one thing stood out as really unfortunate...the MUSIC. It was a Saturday early summer evening (actually big holiday weekend- Gay Pride wkend) - yet the music was slow ballads & not at all appealing or creating an inviting, upbeat atmosphere... We mentioned it to the waiter, only to have music changed to Spanish ballads and odd 60s jazz or some such. Update June 2021: They changed their personnel after the pandemic, since then this place runs down the hill. This is a local staple, great for a cup of coffee and a place to relax. The staff here is very friendly, albeit a bit slow. This is not the place for a quick bite as they are not the fastest to get the food out, however, if you have the time the inside and outside seating areas and very nice and comfortable. The food is good, nothing particularly special, but the drinks are top notch. I've been here quite a few times since living in the area for ~2 years now. My son and I went for brunch on Mother's Day and were able to get a table no problem. However, the wait for the food was a bit long and when the food came I was overall rather disappointed. My son's pancakes seemed great (he ate them all) but his scrambled eggs were undercooked (so we didn't eat them all). I ordered stuffed French toast but it was very dry, tasteless on all the sides of the toast and the stuffed part (cream cheese/berry flavor) was tasty but quite thin. The server was warm and friendly but offered nothing when I told her about the issues with the food- meaning no gesture (eg. I'll take your cappuccino off the check) or even just a verbal apology. So no way to know if my feedback went further. We all live in the area, and we were so excited when the place opened. We would have study groups/ meetings in there with great coffee. The food was overpriced, but the convenience and hours of this place were unmatched. Now none of us go here anymore (sadly) because it's not worth it. Today was actually the last straw for me. Yes, the coffee is still good and I have encountered some lovely baristas. However, the recent bad quality of the food and this weird dinner service set up has ruined this place for now. Their food was always overpriced, but overall used to be ok (though there were times I have gotten stale pastries or sandwiches). I am not sure if they have a new chef, or if this is an issue with management, but their hot food is completely different now. One of the hot food items I would get was the classic flat, which was a personal pizza with mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, and pesto. At $13 it was expensive, but it was good study food and I would split it with a friend. I ordered this same flat today and was so disappointed. The pizza dough itself was the same, but instead on top was weak unseasoned tomato sauce, cheap mozzarella, and 5 unspreadable clumps of this horrible new pesto. Even though the quality has gone down, the price of this flat is still a crazy $13. I realize this place preaches organic, non-GMO ingredients, but that is no excuse for overpriced bad food. Also this new thing where the entire place turns into a restaurant at 630pm is ridiculous. I feel like this place is in an identity crisis between cafe and restaurant, and it's not working. If I'm going to pay ~$15 for coffee and food in a cafe to work, I don't want to be kicked out after a certain time just for higher paying customers to come (which I barely see because the place is empty for dinner service). I think people are confused to what this place is, and if you guys were to stick to one concept you would get more customers. This place is like Transformers, "more than meets the eye!" It's larger on the inside than it looks on the street with ample seating. In addition to typical baked fare (croissants, muffins, cinnamon rolls etc.) they serve salads, savory knishes and my new favorite a "bird's nest." The birds nest is a baked open face egg and cheese dish served on a piece of bread that has been placed in a muffin like tin giving it a round, dense appearance - sort of like a birds nest ... somewhat macabre descriptor since you end up eating the eggs in the nest but ... it fits and is really good. While there's much seating, there are not many outlets... I saw a guy roaming around looking for one ... and that's how many I saw as I tried to help him. But the chai latte was good the avocado toast was average (could use more seasoning) but the overall experience was worth going again ... especially the birds nest read more
