~A Solid 3.5 Stars~ I was at this location for lunch with coworkers and we really enjoyed our meals. We walked in and seems like the norm was to take a seat and grab a menu. Then you have order at the till. The server was very friendly and helpful in taking our order. The menu is very nice and full of flavourful options, and great for meat lovers. I ordered their Beef Stew with spaghetti. The beef was juicy and very will seasoned and tender, the meal also came with a side salad and a drink (water, pop or juice). My coworkers order Wasalad (Goat Shoulder) and Chicken Steak both loved their dishes and meat was tender. The food came in a very timely fashion and was hot. The portion size were amazing and filling. They also had a mini bakery area with very nice cakes but we were too full with our meal to even have slice. Overall, a decent joint to check out. For my Muslim folks - They serve halal meat.

Went on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed with lineups. Unsure on how to proceede I decided to lineup. So I thought of doing a takeout as it was packed. After a few minutes I founs a seat and decided to dine in. I informed the waiter that i would be dining in instead of takeout but i still got take put. Without any fuss i decided to eat out of the take out containers. I noticed a piece of plastic in my food and thought it might be some part of the goat...lol....so I called the waiter...he was so embarrassed that he apologized and said he would get me a new order. I said it was ok and no big deal. He insisted that I get a new order. I told him I had no issues with the plastic so he said I could do a takeout and get another order for free. I was quite happy as the food tasted good! I ordered the goat shoulder. FYI mango drink and/or lemonade is FREE!

Hamdi, Hamdi, Hamdi. I expect better from a place with a name that is so fun to say. I'd never tried Somali cuisine before coming here, and unfortunately, Hamdi didn't offer the greatest introduction to it. I ordered the chicken stew for $12. It came on a large plate - there were a few pieces of lettuce on the side, about three ounces of meat (not much), and a humongous mound of rice and peas. The meat was nicely cooked and flavourful, but I just didn't know what to do with myself or all that rice. I polished off the lettuce and meat, but had an overwhelming amount of rice leftover at the end... It wasn't spiced or anything, so I couldn't enjoy it by itself. I left the place feeling like I got ripped off... The food was decent, but I wasn't satiated, and it definitely wasn't worth the (already inexpensive) price. It was a meal I could easily throw together at home in 20 minutes. Also, I despise bottled water (as I feel like it's a waste when we have perfectly good tap water), and that's all they serve at Hamdi.

What happened to this place??!! Guess the renovation killed the quality of their food... This was an utter disappointment. Absolutely no flavour ..i honestly felt like I was eating overly boiled meat n veggies... N exactly just that.. What a sad lunch it was...

It was our first time trying Somali food. The salmon and rice was good . Spaghetti was just okay. I really like the chapati bread. The service was very friendly. The young man made us feel very welcome, he was very nice and always with a smile on his face.

Not as great as Cafe Sinai when it was still there, but if I'm craving t-bone steak and chicken stew, this is the place to go to!

The Party Jallof was delicious, with a nice smokiness to the rice and the chicken seasoned spectacularly. I'm typically not the biggest fan of plaintains, but the plaintains that came with the rice were crispy and savoury. It was my first time trying fufu & egusi, and for the most part it was exactly what I expected! The stew was tasty, and the fufu had such a unique and lovely texture. Similar to Ethiopian food where you use the injera to pick up the meat/veggie stews, you use the fufu to scoop up the egusi. However, since fish bones are used in the stock, I found several fish bones in my dish that ruined the experience of it. It is a little on the pricier side with these dishes at $26+. The portion of rice could have been bigger, but tastewise everything was great. I would definitely come back to try other dishes and to have their jallof again!

Since this place first opened last year, I've been wanting to try it…read more 2022 was my virgin experience with Nigerians and their food, specifically jollof rice, something I had initially at Afrofest at Woodbine Park and then later at Mild Afro Lounge and restaurant. If you had Ethiopian food, and think that's the end of Africa, you're wrong-oh! Nigerian food is completely different and more lovable by far. I'm a huge fan so far, after just trying it thrice. Starting with the rice, it's that engaging chewy texture to the rice itself that is totally addictive and unlike any other fried rice dish I've tried. And the flavour-forward bold and distinctive seasoning that starts in your mount and permeates all the way to your brain and beyond. Incredible and a huge step in varieties of experiences food-wise that you are likely to have in your life. My dish, seen in the pics, came with a side of plantain. Carrying on with the theme of a smashingly-good outside charred-like texture and caramelized-flavour along with a tender and moist-soft yellow fluffy inside these little buttons of joy make an incredible taste experience on your tongue. And last but not least is the chicken legs (with thigh). Omg that sauce is tangy-spicy good! And the outside of the chicken has a caramelized chewy texture that is totally addictive and had me gnawing away at the bones trying to find every little morsel of it. The inside is tender juicy dark meat, wonderfully soaked in that epic sauce flavour. How many times have I mentioned "flavour" in this review? Not enough, you need to experience this for yourself! Highly recommended in a barren strip of Spadina, just south of Bloor on the east side. Check out the menu and go with a group so you can try more stuff, and... invite me, I wanna wanna go!! Anytime, NO Wahala!

I discovered Jollof at Afrofest a couple years ago and hooked on that tangy spiced rice and chicken. There's steam trays at the back to choose your selections from and create a dish. Starting with 3 kinds of rice, of course including the reddish Jollof rice. Then move on to the meat and veg dishes to complement the rice. Many choices from fish, whole chunks almost caramelized into chewy spicy goodness, turkey, chicken, all drenched and simmering in intensely spicy sauces. Let the super friendly staff suggest topping the rice with some of that ish and it's pure heaven! I grabbed a Zobo, a home made drink concoction that sounds like the Caribbean ginger beer. Staff cautioned me not to drink it with the spicy food I ordered so it's coming home with me. Not gonna ignore that caution! There's a bar and comfy pseudo booth style two tops along the wall to hang in and take in the ambiance as well as the Afro beat music going on. My only complaint would be the value. My meal was $22.95 not including a drink. In a competitive market like Queen West where there are plenty of good value meals this is pricey. And I left wanting more so there was no leftovers to take home. Welcome to the hood Africa, glad you're here with us : )
