vanilla chocolate chip
Pri W.

YUM! Came across Halo Pub as we were in the area and looking for a sweet treat and it did not disappoint! Fresh, flavorful and very generous portions. Decided to stick to a classic and got vanilla chocolate chip! Next time I'll have try some of the other more unique flavors!

This used to be my go to ice cream spot since about 20 years ago. However, it hasn't been lately. Not only has the ice cream price skyrocketed, but it's just not as good. My chocolate chip cookie dough had nearly no chocolate chips and barely much cookie dough. This happened on more than one occasion this year. I now look elsewhere for ice cream in the area and it's such a shame.

Two scoop sugar cone with chocolate butter pecan and black cherry. Yummm!!!

Two scoops of delicious flavored icecream on a sugar cone is what I ordered. It was delicious. I order the chocolate butter pecan (yes you heard that right), also the black cherry icecream. The scoops were humongous. I enjoyed every minute of it. It was a long line upon entering. We waited anyway. They moved pretty quickly. It was appreciated. The service was very nice. The outside looked nice, but didn't look spectacular. I could have overlooked it and passed it by if I wasn't paying attention. The sign for the name of the establishment wasn't big and it was dark. The inside looked dark as well. Like I mentioned, it was packed in there. Wanted to grab a table on the inside but it was no more space. Opted to eat the icecream in the car. I definitely will be back. Thanks for the wonderful day filled with wonderful icecream.

A really cool feel. An old pub with dark wood and creative flavors in the cares. The base is slightly more crystalline than creamy. We got the chocolate peanut paradise and the never veggies seem chocolate butter pecan. Awesome chocolate base. Deducted 1 star for the absolutely disgusting bathrooms (both male and female)

such a neat place

A mixed drink with a great pour size, and a bottle of soda was $12 - which is cheaper than most venues considering it was a full bottle and we go to keep the cap and the mixed drink was large. We saw "The Carpenters", which I saw a while back at the Algonquin theater. I wanted to see the show again because it was so good, but this show was like listening to the B-side of a 45. I can't even tell you how disappointed I was that they didn't play many hits. She sang covers from other artists and not so popular hits. I personally found it strange the way the show began with the guy running the strand, coming on stage with a piece of paper talking, and then having us stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. I have no problems saying the Pledge of Allegiance, but I just found the whole thing odd. I've never gone to any other musical event or show where they had everyone stand up and say the Pledge of Allegiance prior to the event. I also had a rude person seating us. I thought I had bought center orchestra, but it turned out that I bought center tier and when I told him I just wanted to look at my phone to verify what I had purchased because I thought my tickets were wrong. He got nasty with me and told me that's what your ticket said that's what you bought and I told him to just give me a minute so I could just look it up on my phone to verify and it wasn't like he had anything else to do or he was seating anyone else I didn't ask him to wait with me. I understood that my tickets were for the tier, but before I climb the stairs to the top, I wanted to make sure that I got the correct tickets from Will call, but instead of just letting me be, he felt the need to argue with me when there was no argument to be had, and him finally walking away, saying whatever. Other than him all the other people working there were great. This was just one experience but normally I never have any problems there.

I loved this venue back in the day and was happy to finally check it out again after roughly…read morefifteen years. They remodeled after the hurricane, and the venue looks as good as ever. The bathrooms are spacious and clean, and I can't emphasize enough how important that is. My suggestion, particularly for sold-out shows, is to arrive early, like an hour and a half before doors, and park your car at the VFW across the street and pop in for a few three-dollar beers. The prices at Starland are considerably more ($8.50 for a 12 oz can) and the VFW is a great pre-game option. The sound in Starland is good, and their layout is one of their biggest strengths; pretty much anywhere you stand you'll have a good view of the stage. It never seems far away. I'm taking off one star, however, because the show I was at (Testament / Overkill / Destruction) was clearly over-sold. I moved around, checked out a few vantage points during the headliner and eventually found a spot with some breathing room, in a raised area by one of the bars. But man, just imagining some kind of emergency situation and the absolute chaos that would ensue with such a packed-in, oversold crowd, it makes a person nervous.

The place was clean and had a lot of bathrooms. I sat in VIP section and had a great view. However…read moreI felt the sound was way louder than it needed to be even with my ear buds it was extraordinarily loud felt like I wasn't wearing earbuds. The fact the music was so loud so many people were searching for earbuds but nowhere sold them other venues. I've been to the bar will sell them or give them out for free depending. If that so many people are looking for earbuds then maybe there's a problem as I've been to other venue for shows and have not experienced people meandering around searching for earbuds.

Great venue for music but the food & service have a lot to be desired…read more Don't try and question your food as the staff will question you right back!! Ordered a burger & fries that comes with a 'special' sauce which I asked to be left off - both the burger and handful of fries had too much salt and seasoning - I was immediately sick from it. Went to the bar for a glass of wine asked them to add ice which they pulled from the same area holding wine, beer bottles & cans - not exactly sanitary!! No thanks!! For the prices they're charging they need to be more customer friendly and definitely follow sanitation standards!! The music though is fabulous!!!

Tonight it was Cantor Talya Smilowitz (Julliard trained, mother, cantor and nightclub singer). Our friends had seen her singing at a Long Island temple. I'm neither an opera nor temple song fan, but Talya was just great! She concentrated mostly on Carol King and Joni Mitchell songs, but threw in some songs from bygone eras, like "Someone to Watch Over Me" (Ella Fitzgerald singing Gershwin) and other diva ballads of more recent vintage. After I got home, I checked her out on YouTube and she does a great job on Mariah Carey's "I'll Be There." She had a guest Cantor for a few songs, "Melissa Berman," and was accompanied on guitars by Stuart Markus from Gathering time (the act we saw last year) and an electric piano player who seemed to be able to play any song that ever was popular. The food was different in that there were some Indian dish choices, but we enjoyed it. It's nice to be able to have dinner and/or drinks while watching a live show with an audience of maybe eighty. The tickets were $53 each ($20 more than last year). There was no WiFi unless you had a room number, so you had to go outside to get Internet. The atmosphere is much nicer than the original "My Father's Place" (1970s-1980's) and I believe the original owner still runs the show.

We showed up early for our show so we could have a great spot, and of course we weren't going to give up our proximity to the stage just to be able to drink alcohol. This was a first for me, I've never heard of this rule at any venue I've ever been to. Obviously not a deal breaker, but we are the kind of people who only drink for a special occasion and we had been looking forward to this show for months, so that was a bummer. It was absolutely FREEZING when we walked inside, so if you're not going to be in the heart of the crowd or jumping around a lot, make sure you're prepared for that! The staff was nice, they have metal detectors upon entry and ticket scanning was quick/efficient.
