This is a MUST-STOP when we are out on the north fork wine trail!! They make the best soups and I love that I can grab a quart of New England Clam Chowder and bring it home with me and have it after a long day of wine samples!! Nothing beats walking in and smelling all the yummy things, and of course even if you are only planning on getting soup, you WILL walk out with more than just soup!! On my way home from the vineyards, I like to stop at Hallock's Cider Mill, which is on the north side of the Main Road, right before you hit civilization (large chain stores, supermarkets, fast food, etc.). You can't miss this place unless you're driving really fast, as there are multiple street signs advertising their roasted sweet corn, fresh homemade cheesecakes, chowder, and more. On the outside of Hallock's, you'll see a bunch of plants, but venture inside, and you'll treat yourself to some yummy homemade pies, breads, 6-7 varieties of cookies, cheesecakes, jams, and soups (white and red clam chowder)... For our pit stop, we went with the White Clam Chowder ($5.00) for a 16 oz. (I believe), 6 homemade chocolate chip cookies ($4.95), and a roasted sweet corn (~$2.00). The white clam chowder is served in a styrofoam container and plastic spoon. This New England Clam Chowder may not be the typical clam chowder you're used to, as it's not super thick and creamy, but more of a gritty consistency, but still very tasty and fresh. You won't be disappointed as every spoonful will have clam chunks, a definite plus in my book, as that is how Clam Chowder should be. If only I had a little hot sauce to add, but nevertheless, we could go for seconds. The roasted sweet corn is already precooked and sitting in a room-temp cooler. You will have the option of butter, salt, or pepper. We opted for just the butter, which the corn was dipped in a big container of liquid butter.. mmmmm.. Though not roasted on the spot, the corn was still very fresh and crisp, complimented with a layer of liquid butter. The cookies are also very good, soft and fresh (far from stale), as a cookie is meant to be. As there isn't much to eat around by the vineyards, I'd definitely recommend stopping by Hallock's for a quick snack before getting on the road to back home. read more

Best kept secret!! We always thought bremeire farms had the best pies. Then we stopped for a key lime pie and cheesecake at hallocks. It blew any other pie we've eaten out of the water. We've had the regular key lime and the chocolate crusted key lime...stick with the regular! read more

Stopped by since a friend wanted to buy a pie. Although she ended up with a basil plant, I was the one buying a freshly, baked pecan pie ($14). Other than herb plants and pies, you can stop here for some flowers, produce, preserves/jams, all ready made soups, honey, pastries, etc. Everything is uberly fresh and the smell inside the place is to die for! The best Peach Pie in the world is here, and so are a lot of other freshly baked goods, that they are baking in the back, and the smell of the baked goods make it even harder to resist trying something else, they also have home made cider, jellies,cookies, homemade soups, chowders. try the chowders. We try to get here as often as we can whenever we come out on the North Fork. We always have a cooler with ice so we can stock up from Hallocks. read more

I have been going to briermere for years and decided to look up a different pie bakery out east. Their apple crumb pie is the best I ever had from anywhere. Nice firm apples in it and it's not like apple sauce in a crust. It's the only one I tried from there but next time it will be the only pie stop I will be making, the store is clean and neat and big enough to walk into . They also have cookies. Obnoxious people. I have gone in several times and have only encountered rudeness twice, but it should be zero times. This most recent incident was when I called to place a pie order for Thanksgiving seven days before Thanksgiving and five days before the desired pickup date. There was a problem connecting with the phone. The man asked me what day I was picking up and with the phone delay he asked me three times while I was answering him. Perhaps he didn't like my tone when I was repeating my reply 3x, but he then said they stopped taking Thanksgiving orders. I asked when they stopped taking orders and there was a delay in his response. Conveniently, "yesterday" was the day they stopped taking orders. To my knowledge they only take orders for Thanksgiving and if they weren't taking orders anymore, he would have said so immediately instead of asking me what day I would be picking up. I thought I was coming to this place to get fresh cider, that is not the case. They have two kinds of cider, some in plastic containers that are actually from "Jericho Cider Mill" (they are labled that way) and the others that they checkout person said "they have made for them". I didn't try the pies, I was given a sample of the soup and it was o.k. No cider donuts, just not what I expected from a "Cider Mill". They do have baked goods and farm produce, jams too. read more

We bought the key lime pie and apple cider. My husband liked the pie, me, it was too sweet to my liking and had a maple taste to it. We purchased the apple cider in the large glass bottle. It tastes like apple juice, not cider and my biggest concern is, the bottle does not say if it is pasteurized or not. I just found NY State has a law that all ciders need to be pasteurized and if not, a warning label should be on it. It had neither. Yikes! read more

Total disappointment. Bought two pies which were the only ones in the display on a Thursday. I should have questioned how long they were there. Owner stated you can leave out for up to 5 days. Served on Sunday and was rotting inside. Went back and though he agreed could leave out then double talked and lied when I told him what happened. Complete jerk. I was coming home after a drive to a local orchard for apple picking and needed a bit of a pick me up. I didn't really need "cider mill", pies or cookies. I figured if they were selling a bunch of sweets, there's a good chance there have to have coffee right? No, wrong. No coffee. Instead i found lots of pie, and some soup. I haven't had any clam chowder in a while, and the ones in Manhattan were expensive and my last couple were gross. I figured i would give it a try. They had two - Red and White clam chowder. It was my first time trying a red, tomato based clam chowder. I asked for one, and surprisingly, it was $5 for a large cup. Its the best clam chowder I've ever had. I asked for another serving, this time the white one that I was use to. Another home run. I wish I lived near this place. I would go here every day. The soups were AMAZING. They have the best pies I have ever eaten. We bought the key lime pie and a coconut chocolate caramel concoction over a cream filling. The key lime was hands down the best I've eaten and even beats the version I had in key west. The coconut pie was to die for. The coconut was browned and the entire thing was phenomenal. hallocks has some great jelly's and jams. my kids love the blueberry jam and we will be back to try the others. they have a huge selection of different flavors. when we do go out this is definitely one of our stops along the way and on the way home because my kids also love the homemade cookies. fresh oatmeal cookies is a great treat for them and good to know they are getting something healthy and homemade. we also loved the eggs they taste like fresh from the farm eggs very different then the ones you get in the supermarket. and who can beat the price .99 for a dozen extra large eggs. and of course they have really good fruits and vegtables all are at the peek freshness. and let's not forget the good price. read more
