I was in NY for work and found myself in Haverstraw at the end of a long day and needing to return to my hotel in Long Island. I really wanted a beer and some dinner before heading back. I got on Yelp! and found a spot I wanted to try. I'm a sucker for Irish pubs and wasn't disappointed. I came in with a coworker around 5 PM and we sat at the bar, ordered a local beer off the tap and put in order for some fish and chips. I was pleased with the service we received. It was what I expected for a local spot like this. By "like this" I mean that small spot on the end of a strip mall. It'd be easy to miss this if you weren't really looking for it. I also enjoyed overhearing some of the chatter from some locals who were seated together at the other end of the bar. I like finding those spots that have regulars! I gotta say, the fish and chips though were on point! At least for me. I live in Oklahoma, we're not exactly known for our fish and chips. This to me though was what I wanted and was glad to have it, again, with a local beer on tap! Overall I had a nice experience and was happy with what I had for my trip back through NYC and onto LI. We love going here on wing night. They have several flavors to choose from, but our favorites are Jalapeño Ranch, Garlic Parmesan and Sesame Ginger. The service is always great and the wings always crispy. Be prepared for a crowd and a bit of a wait on wing night, though. That's to be expected when they have such delicious wings! Wing night changes during football season, so you might want to call to double check. I highly recommend checking this place out if you happen to be in the area. read more

My friends and I stated going to Halligans about once a week for about 2 months. We really enjoy it and I can't leave until I order potato skin (no bacon) and the warm pretzels. PROS : -FRIENDLY staff! -Great service -Good food -Great Happy Hour 2 for 1 beers, including GUINNESS -Clean - Well Kalua ++++ - Meryl is a fantastic,nice, bartender! CONS: -No credit cards. They have an ATM. (cost $1.50 transaction fee. Which is very inexpensive) - Juke box could be louder especially on Fridays. Always ask them to put it on. Overall I love this place, we always have fun. Never once had bad food, drinks or service. I never give a 5, it would have to be the best thing ever. A strong 4 stars for Halligans! read more

We found Halligans thanks to Yelp and came on down based on John D's review. He is right, it's a small, very nice and quiet Irish pub. It's located at the end of a strip mall and if you aren't looking you will cruise right by it. Beers $8, really $8? I am not sure where they came up with this but your losing at least 1 star right away. However the more I think about it maybe 1.5 stars. $6 I could live with but $8 for a beer....come on. Food We ordered chili, it was ok. It came in a small crock pot with lots of cheese and some nachos on the side. The chili could have used a bit more flavor or spice but it was ok. Not great, but ok. It was a nice size portion. We also split an order of Filet Mignon Sliders. There were 3, smothered in onion and blue cheese crumbles. They were tender but the flavor was missing a bit here as well. Maybe we left our taste buds at home but the flavor was just not there. Service was good. Our new beers were served before we finished our first round but we actually we going to skip a second so........ Halligans is a solid 3 star place, would we go back? Went in for lunch. I don't drink but have been in my share of Pubs. Everything is fairly new, clean and comfortable. The girl behind the bar was friendly. The menu is simple, about $10 & up. After a discussion with the server as to whether get the chicken sandwich or the patty melt, I went with her suggestion and opted for the patty melt. Mmm, good choice. Juicy and tasty. Have to agree with Greg. The bar is nice, clean and well staffed. Ordered Buffalo wings and they were very good. Not the best in Rockland but certainly worth ordering. My wife ordered a french dip and it was huge. She did offer everyone at the table her fries because she said "she would never finish them". Well that was a bit of a lie because her plate was clean by the time she finished. Def worth checking out - especially for a ball game. P.S Best part about this place is that you enter through a side door. If you are fortunate enough to face the front door, you can enjoy watching the idiots try for a solid 15 seconds to open the locked door before they read the sign 6 inches from their faces saying "Enter through side door". read more

I was looking for a localish good meal and a friend who lives there posted about a great meal at Facebook. It became my destination the next day. First off, tiny irish pub. GREAT service.. The burgers were awesome. My swordfish (which is NEVER easy to pull off ,but I wanted to test them), was SOO good. The salads were big and yummy. This place is kind of a sleeper. I've driven by here many times and never even noticed it! Halligan's is a nice, clean, quaint, and well priced bar. The staff is very extraordinarily friendly. The food, which is standard bar fare, is extremely tasty. I ordered a steak quesadilla which took a little longer than I would have expected to prepare, but was delicious. When I saw that Halligan's was hosting a band for the evening, admittedly, I had pretty low expectations. You know, neighborhood bar in the 'burbs... Well, I was wrong, Recovery Theory rocked out! This place was relatively new. I have a friend who lives locally and had never been here. It's not a big place so don't expect a huge restaurant, this is more of a bar. There were TV's all over the place witch was a good thing since we were there for a Yankee playoff game. All I ordered was wings and we decided to sample the BBQ and Buffalo and the were worth it. They have the best wings!! Wednesday nights they have a special for 50 can't wings and 2.50 yuenglings. They have kareoke on Friday nights and a dj on Saturdays many times. It's a fun place to get a few drinks with friends. read more

Everyone is a friend here. If you are looking for a place with no "Kids" and their "Drama" then this is the place. A very friendly environment, you will feel like part of the neighborhood even if you've never been there before. The Food is great, better then the usual "Bar" Fare. The staff is genuine and efficient. This place is great for the Family for a dinner out and for friends (old and new) for a good time. Guess I'm not used to bar food? My husband & I shared a "starter" of onion rings - they were among the best I've ever had. He ordered a soda, I ordered tea. What arrived was hot water in a tall glass mug and a lipton tea bag. I had to ask for a spoon and some milk for the tea. For dinner, my husband ordered a rack of ribs & I ordered the fish & chips. Thank goodness, a place where I don't get weird looks when I want vinegar with my fish! I was disappointed, though, that I did not get a vegetable with my meal as came with the ribs. The fish was good, hubby said the ribs were a tad undercooked but otherwise good. I wish ALL restaurants would stop passing off those shoestring things as chips/french fries because by the time they get to the table they are always cold and hard no matter who serves them. Dessert was good - I had red velvet cake, hubby had tiramisu. He ordered coffee but had to send it back because it was dishwater-warm. The service was mostly good, although one of the young servers wears such heavy cologne we almost fell over. read more
