Great place, I was introduced to it thanks to coupons I got in the mail. It's one of the better fish and chips locations I enjoy eating at. They got great specials for breakfast and fish n chips. They have the right balance of having a good fish and good fries in their meal(some places are better with the fish or fries but the other suffers). Their poutine ain't bad either. Not great but it makes the fries taste better. As for criticism, they don't allow poutine additions if you order the special of the day. Doing so would not let you buy it at the deal listed. I don't get it. Let me purchase the fish n chips special and then add-on whatever the cost of the poutine would be to add to the fries. But not a separate addition, an ADD-ON. Just let me add poutine to the fries. read more

I tried this place while shopping at stockyards. They have combos with fries that are cheaper than rice. I had grilled salmon with rice. It was good but slightly pricey for the portion.They have plenty of seating and the decor is very 'sea-side diner'. Service was friendly. If you like fries, then it will be cheaper. read more

Cute, clean decor. I like the fish tiles on the walls. I came here on the weekend for breakfast. I was really craving fish and chips though. I knew it would be a long shot, but I asked if I could order fish. They said that they didn't usually serve it that early and that the fryer wasn't on. But then the server asked if I wanted them to turn the fryer on! So nice of them. I ordered the halibut fish and onion rings. Although the fish was good and the onion rings were good, I wouldn't recommend ordering them together b/c it's soooo much grease. The rings have a nice thick batter. It came with a nice helping of coleslaw too. The portions were big. I brought some onion rings home. Great prices for halibut fish and chips. read more

Please save yourself the disappointment. I place a order for pickup, I work around the corner ( less than 5 mins walking distance) food should be fresh and hot! Tasty and fresh. Had the cod and chips. Went on a day when they didn't have specials but the price was worth it to satisfy my craving! The coating on the fish is light and crisp just the way I like it. The portions were plentiful, the service was pleasant and the server knew the menu and prices well, making it easy for me to pick the best value. Not bad tbh. Not bad at all. I've ordered take out from another location of Halibut House and it held up in transit. Portions were generous and the food quality was quite exceptional. Fast forward to my visit to this location recently and it was as good as my previous order but fresher, less soggy and nicely crispy. Delicious in fact. Pretty decent deep fried fish place, big portion plate. Ordered the Seafood Platter which came with 2 pieces of haddock, 3 shrimps and 3 scallops. The deep fried seafood was excellent with the tartar sauce. The batter was light and crunchy, not greasy. Fries were huge and unsalted, tasted bland and a bit on the soft side. Coleslaw was more sour than other restaurants. Also tried the halibut, smaller than the haddock and the fish meat felt slightly denser. Both fish tasted great and not fishy, I prefer haddock for its flakier texture and it is actually cheaper than the halibut. Came in just now (Sunday lunch) and ordered the Sunday special which consist of Haddock and chips with slaw. It was a pretty big portion, I ended up finishing the food and left nothing untouched. Each booth consist of the tartar sauce and ketchup for that easy access to that sauce! Overall, the fish and chip is perfectly fried to perfection and not overdone like other fish and chips establishment. I got the halibut and chips. The halibut tastes fishy, which it should not, it was overcooked, dry and very chewy. The batter was also not very good. It was not fluffy, was more like a coating and not at all crispy. Also more expensive then other fish n chip places I've been to. I gave the rest to my dog. The chips? Not bad! Just tried to order a grilled cheese sandwich and fries at the new Halibut House location in Maple because 2 of my guests were vegetarians and was told that they couldn't serve grilled cheese after 2pm but they offered up 2 cheeseburgers. Poor customer service - never coming back!! read more

This place isn't marketed well, doesn't even have pictures on yelp. But what this place has is delicious cheap fried fish and chips. The problem I am seeing with the reviews are from boujee people who expect gimmicks to be a part of the restaurant. I went there on Sunday and had their weekend special, fried halibut, the size of my forearm and fries all under $9 including tax. Hole in the wall places that don't try to do to much and provide good cheap food are the back bone of neighborhoods and this place deserves higher than 3 1/2 stars. read more

I had a craving for breaded scallops in the middle of the night. Looked up a place nearby to have some for lunch once I woke up and found this place. I ordered the scallop lunch and the scallop & shrimp lunch. Yummy yummy. I was afraid the scallops might be soggy but they were just right (and fairly big -- some places like to cheap out and get the tiniest ones possible). I wish the shrimp were breaded too instead of battered but can't complain too much. Had a nice garden salad with each meal and got enough food to give me about 3-1/2 dinners for the next day or two. Spoke too soon. Last meal was bad. First bad meal I've had there. The crab strips were fried til they looked like tree twigs. Hard and crunchy. they should never have made it out the kitchen door.
