This place was recommended by the owners of the Saucy Willow Inn (where we stay when we are in Coboconk - they're fantastic) and they said that if we wanted a 5 star meal, the Haliburton Post House was the place to go. We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into.
The actual inn and restaurant are kind of off the beaten path but it's on Kashagawigamog Lake, which is absolutely stunning. We got there early knowing it was a 4 course meal and we decided to go to the screened in porch with an incredible view of the lake. The ambience couldn't be better.
We were met by our server Chris, who was absolutely wonderful and she explained the menu and how everything was made in house. WE ordered drinks first and they came out quickly and well made. So the service and ambience were both fantastic but it was when we started seeing the food come out that we both started salivating. The smells in the dining room were worth the trip alone. Then we started getting our food.
I could write a novel about this place but I'll attach some pictures here. Long and short of this trip was that the Haliburton Post House made us a dinner that both my wife and I thought was in the top three of anything we've ever had. The highlights for us were her halibut and my steak.... we have been lucky to eat at some great places over the years, but this place blew us away. We finished off with dessert and a Grand Marnier, which was the perfect end to a perfect meal. I was even invited back to meet the chef, who was a super nice man who chatted with me briefly while he was still cooking for other customers. Total class.
The place is about a 30 minute drive from Coboconk but it is totally worth it. This place doesn't get 5 stars from us.... I wish I could give them 7 or 8 stars. It has no business being this good. I am surprised that this place doesn't have a Michelin star. It's that good. read more
