Last Sunday, we came here to celebrate my sister's graduation and were excited to enjoy some drinks and dinner since we're rarely in the area. Unfortunately, from the very beginning, the experience was disappointing. After being seated, our waitress took our drink order, but the drinks came out wrong. We brushed it off and hoped the food would make up for it, but unfortunately, it only got worse. We ordered nachos, pasta, chicken nuggets, and a $45 lobster roll. The nuggets were the only thing that was decent. The lobster roll was especially disappointing because it looked great, but it was overwhelmingly salty to the point it was hard to enjoy. The nachos were honestly terrible, with what tasted like cheese whiz and poorly seasoned chicken. I couldn't finish them. My sister ordered pasta and also couldn't finish hers because it just wasn't good. For a bill of over $200, the quality of the food was incredibly disappointing. We left hungry, frustrated, and honestly shocked by how poor the experience was. It was supposed to be a special celebration, but the food and overall experience completely missed the mark. I stopped in for some wings and a nice cold Heineken 00 the other day and to my pleasant surprise, they had the NY Liberty playing on their big tv. Their pool table is such a great centerpiece, with bench seating along the parameter. I love the view of the canal and the occasional breeze that comes through the enormous open bay window. The owner and staff here are super welcoming and really cultivate a nice neighborly vibe. On their large patio, you can catch live music every weekend and sometimes during the week as well. I went to halfway down to meet with my family for the holiday boat show,I live pretty close so I was very excited to finally try! The boat show did not disappoint cool boats and beautiful decor.The restaurant allowed us to view it from the rooftop which was so cool!! After the boat show we went in for some drinks and appetizers.The restaurant was decorated for christmas and the christmas tunes were on, a great added touch. The atmosphere was cozy and fun.The waitress came over and took our order she was very nice! Best lobster salad I've ever had ,especially when it's mounded on 2 slices of avocado. The mounds of lobster have huge pieces of the meat, no maynaise, just lobster. It's paired with a scoop of seaweed salad that is so good that I've gotten extra to bring home to have more of. Also,in the winter the corn chowder with seafood has lobster, shrimp, scallops, whatever is fresh that day. All of their food is made fresh the day you are there, all excellently prepared!! You can't go wrong. The bartender is also excellent and will make you any drink including customized ones you might think about! Halfway down is a wonderful laid back place to eat, drink and have a good time. Francisco, the chef serves up delicious food. Lobster roll is the best I have ever had. Honestly heartbreaking. A year ago, Halfway Down had a special: burger with lobster meat and sunny side up eggs. This was the best burger I ever had. Nothing came close. Today for Father's Day, I called ahead and asked if they were able to make that same burger, and they said yes. I was really looking forward to having this burger again. When my family and I were seated, the owner at first said they didn't have the ingredients to make the burger. But after letting him know that we called in advance, they were able to make it. The burger was so bland that I just stared in shock. No flavor. The fries weren't even seasoned. It was the worst burger I've ever had. My family and I have eaten here many times, and I was ready to leave a positive review. I don't know why they changed their standards when it comes to their food. But I will not be returning. Not a big deal; I figured that I'd get the fried calamari. The bartender came back and said they actually had some oysters left. I realized there was something odd going on. I assumed they were probably out but they had one of the staff members walk down the block to get some from another business on the nautical mile. I think my assumption was wrong. I believe the oysters they brought out were frozen and they were trying to unfreeze them. They oysters had no flavor. They were rubbery and stuck to the shell. I had two and left the rest. I am a Freeport resident for all my life. I frequent the mile often and love it. However, on 6/7/23 me and my husband were at Halfway Down to enjoy a few cocktails with our relatives. Our first drink was delivered in a somewhat timely manner. But when our glasses were empty the bartender (Eddie) would walk right by us and not even make eye contact with us in order to ask for another drink. This is not the first time I've had an issue with him. While we were there another family whom we know for many years came in to celebrate the dad's birthday. They waited at least 15 minutes or more when the son finally tried to get the bartender's attention. When he finally did he was told that he'd be with him in a minute (after already waiting over 15)! Mind you the bar was not crowded. They also got very annoyed and left to go to another place and so did we. All summer, I've had Halfway down on my list of things to do. Live music, food, drink specials, I was intrigued to check it out. Is it cliche to say this is a hidden gem? It's literally halfway down, you can't miss out on they Mile. For some reason I imagined a tiny little underground pub. The reality is anything but. Inside are tables for dining, a long bar and the bathrooms Outside, little porch for the live music, couches(or benches) a tiki kinda bar, tables, umbrellas, bar stools over looking the water.... It was a beautiful Sunday, the sun directly over head, warm but not scorching and I was so pleased to have finally made it to Halfway Down. We only had a few beers, but the food looked so good and everyone around us was enjoying themselves immensely. They have social media so make sure to follow them for daily events and specials. This is a new addition to the constantly changing bar scene on Freeport's Nautical Mile. I have been here 3 times this season and have enjoyed myself most of my visits . The owners have been on location every time, so I imagine they have a vested interest in making it a success. I liked that they had an IPA from the new local Brewsa Brewing Company on tap. I also loved the loaded grilled cheese sandwich on rustic bread with bacon and tomato. I found the prices of food and drink to be fair. Halfway Down has drink specials Monday thru Thursday and live music Thursday thru Sunday. Unfortunately, the band last Sunday afternoon was not very good and many of the patrons ( including us) left after the first set. We sat at the indoor bar (there's also an outdoor tiki bar) and met our bartender Kat/Kathleen (it was her second day there!), the owners Kevin and his son Keith. We were welcomed like family. I ordered a Hurricane and loved it (and got another one). We talked to the owner and heard that they've been open for 18 months now. Loved the pool table and the fun vibe indoors. The owners treated customers and their staff very well - always a good sign and the kind of place we enjoy. We had dinner before but got hungry for munchies. After over 30 minutes we were told 2 of the cocktails on the menu weren't even available. Food was cold and gross and that took almost 40 minutes but still came out before the last of the drinks. -Sticky filthy menus -We were served a pitcher of brown water.
