I've been meaning for some time now to give five stars where five stars is truly due. David has earned five stars many times over in my books.
David learned his art from his mentor Glen. He learned a valuable trade that's almost forgotten in this modern society of replaceable, disposable equipment and parts. Sure you buy a stereo at Wal-Mart, you throw it away when it breaks. But what do you do when the foam rots away, or you blow the voice coil in that special loudspeaker that you've had for thirty years, that cost several thousand dollars back in the day, that is simply no longer replaceable? Well, if it weren't for David, you would throw it away, or I suppose you could watch some YouTube for the DIY enthusiast.
However, speaker repair is some tricky business, and I imagine it takes several thousand repairs to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to properly rebuild a speaker. There is only one man in the entire mid south who can do this, and that is David Halford.
Why do we still waste our time preserving this old, obsolete, outdated sound equipment? Because it was better. Incredible amounts of research went into sound production, and designing better speakers, and using different materials and production techniques. Now a days, research focuses on making something cheaper.
David has created his own line of hi fi loudspeakers with his own name branding. Halford speakers are the result of many years of experience and a love for his craft. He also loves turn tables. Do not bring a cd in here expecting to listen to music. Do bring your albums in. They sound so much better. Let him tell you why.
When amplifiers started using solid state technology, music enthusiasts protested, and old tube amps have become sought after by album collectors because they sound so much different. When stereos started using digital technology, music would never sound as good again. The worst part is that people began to accept digital and solid state as the norm, and we've forgotten how music is supposed to sound! Go by and see for yourself what music sounds like from a turn table through a Macintosh tube amp with a pair of Halford loudspeakers.
David has helped me many times over the last 25 years. He has always been fair, and I've never had problems with his repairs. I have lots of vintage sound equipment, and three pairs of really good speakers. (I don't have any Halfords yet) When we inherited a really large hi fi system from back in the old days, we had no need for more equipment. I knew David would be interested in the Macintosh and the AR speakers. He offered such a fair price for the system without even knowing how much of it still worked! He said he was able to pay such a large amount knowing he would have to put a certain amount of work in. We were very pleased with this sale.
If you have some old, cool looking equipment in the attic, check to see if he's interested. He is doing a great service to his community by doing his part to preserve history, and pleasing the discerning listener. Also if you are a musician, sound engineer, club owner, or church, remember that your speakers can be repaired or upgraded much cheaper than replacing them! And in many cases, the repaired speaker will perform better than what you will be able to buy these days. read more
