Ugh I am beyond frustrated by this point, and felt like a good rant on yelp was needed. I've been on the hunt for Kopparberg cider for months now and when I found that Half Time had it in stock and was able to ship it to Washington State I was beyond thrilled. I placed my order on December 7th, my card was charged and in the email it said I'd receive a tracking order once my order had been sent out. I waited, and no email or tracking number arrived. So I waited, I figured it was the holiday season, it is busy no big deal. By December 23rd I'm getting a bit worried so I email them, only to find out that my order was sent out, then returned to the warehouse due to the package being damaged. Frustrating, yes, but they promised me it would be sent out again on December 26th and would arrive by January 3rd. Well January 3rd was yesterday and no sign of my order, and yet again no tracking number. So I have emailed yet again to see what is up in regards to my order. The first time around they responded very quickly, and this time I'm still waiting. Since I go to school on the east coast of Canada (where they cannot ship it to me) I am a bit ticked off that I have been home now for a month and my order is still nowhere to be found. If they get back to me telling me my order was damaged again or wasn't sent out, then I'm pulling the plug, I'm not going through this again. I'm sure their actual store is great but their online store is horrible, and if you can find what you are looking for anywhere else, I'd highly suggest you do that instead. read more

Amazing Beer Selection here. Half Time bowled me over when I walked in. They have a very wide selection of beers here. In addition to the big selection of American Craft Beers, they have a great selection of foreign beers, as well as run of the mill domestic beers too. First, I'll admit that I'm not a beer drinker. Recent health concerns forced me to give it up. I do miss it tho! I really miss being able to order a hefe weizen when out with friends, stuff's the nectar of the gods! My complaint with this place is that I was once trying to return bottles there after seeing that it was a service they offered and even have signs on their storefront saying so. I'm not going to describe the entire incident but suffice it to say that the person whom I talked to turned out to be the manager/owner of the place & he was quite dismissive and rude. So I packed up my bottles & left. When I sent them an email about the incident, I got a reply from the very same person essentially trying to explain his attitude in terms of being a retail manager -- basically in a language that I didn't understand and also telling me that bottle return there is not a viable business service because it costs him too much money. Basically, he was as rude & dismissive as he was in person. And for some reason he kept asking me about my occupation, which I told him was not his business & didn't bear on our exchange. So, if you're looking for a good beer, go here! I have friends who love the place & I don't blame them for going there. read more

I used to love this place, but not anymore. They used to have online ordering, but not anymore, It was convenient living out of state and being able to make a gift purchase online and have the recipient pick it up. I live in the south, and visit the area twice a year, last visit was July 2015 before they installed new shelves throughout the store. Since then, the prices have skyrocketed. Ommegang beer from NY was pretty scarce on the shelves, and the prices are higher than at the Oasis in Hopewell, or I can even get it cheaper in the southern parts of the U.S. a 750ml bottle of Duvel was $5 more than another store in the area. Even the selection has gone down so they could add other breweries. When some of the most popular craft breweries in the U.S. have reduced selections so they can add something else is sad. A lot of the nice New York and other Northeastern craft beers have much less of a presence than prior to expanding shelf capacities. It used to be that I would spend a few hundred dollars at half time while in the area, and then load my trunk up with $500-$600 worth to bring back on my trip south, but not this time. I spent about $25 the first visit, and $100 before leaving; but that was only because I was gifted a $100 halftime gift card for xmas. The final kicker is that when I posted my unpleasant experience with the store on their facebook page, they deleted my review instead of actually addressing my concerns. So much for freedom of speech I helped ensure with my time in the military and numerous out of country and overseas deployments. read more

Very large store with a seemingly overwhelming selection of beer at first glance. With further inspection though its not as good as it looks. They don't turn over stock very quickly so there is still a lot of beer from the winter left in the middle of summer. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing as it allowed me to pickup a bunch of Southern Tier Creme Brulee which I haven't seen in any other stores for like 6 months. So that actually worked to my advantage. They also carried a ton of really cheap and crappy beer that took up two entire aisles of the store. Prices were pretty fair and they did let you make your own six packs which I enjoy. The staff are not particularly knowledgable or friendly, but the selection and price make up for this in my opinion. read more

Online purchase review: Have been buying online from Half Time off and on for a few years as their selection of beers we can't get here in CA is excellent, and while the shipping time is generally pretty long, the service has always been good. In my last order however there was a mix-up and I didn't get a few of the beers I ordered. I reached out, and it turns out that they had applied a credit, but it was for the wrong beers and to the wrong card. So why 4 stars? They were responsive to my inquiry and got to the bottom of the matter. Once identified, they immediately rectified the situation, offering free shipping on my next order and throwing in the two beers they didn't ship in the prior order. Absolutely top notch and timely resolution, and was very pleased with the experience. I will continue to purchase from Half Time, as well as recommend them to my friends. read more

Half Time has an amazing selection of beer! The only downfall is that they don't have many West Coast beers, but hey - they can't stock everything. Do you like beer? Do you want delicious beer poured ice-cold from the tap into a container (or four) that you can take home? Then Half Time is the place for you. They advertise themselves as having the largest beer selection in the world, and they may very well be right. If their huge selection of bottled beers and kegs don't satisfy you, then maybe one of their twelve rotating taps will. Every time I'm in Poughkeepsie, I make sure to bring at least one growler with me for them to fill. You can be cheap and empty a Berkshire Brewing one from your local beer store, or buy a simple or fancy Half Time one there. The prices vary wildly, especially on the taps, but if you're a beer snob (or just a casual beer fan), there's something here for you. If not, well, there's still a beer here for you. read more

Ordered their hop head beer subscription box as a December birthday gift for my sister. Two months later: no box. First they said it was shipping mid January. Then, after my husband called, they said it was shipping the first week of February. Still no shipping confirmation. Based off the reviews, this is not an uncommon experience with this company. Half Time is a special place; many times I've seen grown, bearded men walk out of the store with giddy little grins on their faces. For beer aficionados, I'd actually call this a destination. I'm barely drinking age, but already know it puts other liquor stores to shame. Biggest perks: massive selection of beer from around the world (lots of local brews too), and you can grab an empty 6-pack container and fill it with whatever bottles/cans catch your eye (you get the 6-pack price for them, or some nice discount--not sure which). Do not place online orders! After 10 weeks of repeatedly calling the company about the status of my Cider of the Month Club order, I finally got a refund (and still no cider). Each phone call, Jason and Tim were friendly, but there was always an excuse for why I hadn't received a shipping confirmation or any beverages: waiting for new ciders to arrive, problems with the third-party shipping company, etc. They would promise to ship a box "immediately" every time I called, but nothing. Finally, I got them to refund my credit card, but they promised to still send two of the three boxes I had ordered due to the nearly three-month inconvenience. Well, I got the refund a month ago, but clearly they had no intentions of still fulfilling any part of the order. read more

It has a great selection, with many beers, varying by region. It's the best place in the county (as their slogan says, in the WORLD... which I doubt, but hey, that's cool.) Prices vary - some are a great deal, some are not. It depends on where they felt it was fair to mark-up prices. Oddly it's difficult to navigate around and find what you're looking for, and with so much room you'd expect more organization or signage. Maybe you're supposed to ask for help every time? Maybe it's like a disorganized library, requiring a catalog with index cards to shuffle you from aisle to aisle looking for your choices. Who knows. Anyway, if you're a beer fan, go here. Horrible service. Placed an online order on 12/15 received a confirmation email only. Called 12-21due to the fact not receiving tracking number.Spoke to someone and they said they usually ship every Tuesday but I would get a call back. This was not stated on the website. Never received a call back so I called again.. received some lame answer and was told I would receive a tracking number. Idid not receive a tracking number until 12-24 but it was only a tracking number. Still has not been sent. Solid three. Great selection however the prices are quite high (highest by far even in the area) and they rarely put prices on the items or in the shelves. Tough to tell what you will pay. My fiancé's first impression of Half Time: "This is like a helicopter hangar filled with beer". The Brit was in heaven. Mere minutes later, I nearly collapsed in happiness at the site of the insane amounts of lambic they sell. Now, you may notice a pattern in our reviews on good ol' Yelp. They serve/sell lambic? Five stars! I might have to go back and re-review everything for not having an entire half-aisle devoted to God's Sweet Nectar. Half-aisle. HALF-AISLE. You're lucky to find a few bottles in most stores, but a half-aisle? I wanted to get a sleeping bag and camp out in it, just to be near that glorious selection. We spent a good half hour browsing that 10 feet of space. We wound up going home with a bottle of Boon Kriek. I've seen Kriek in other places since we left Amsterdam (where the Kriek obsession began) but not Boon Kriek, so that was a no-brainer. We also settled on a Faro lambic, just because we never tried that before. That was also excellent. And for old time's sake, a bottle of Lindeman's Framboise since you can never go wrong with that. On the way out, we picked up 2 single bottles of Octoberfest and Pumpkin Ale because, y'know, 'tis the season and all. It wound up being $28 for 5 bottles. Considering that many restaurants are selling small bottles of Framboise for $13 alone, I felt like that was a great deal. Tons of selection + fair prices = visit. here. now. read more

My husband and I stumbled across this place while wandering around Poughkeepsie. We don't live near there and had never heard of a "crowler." Matt was very helpful and my husband wound up coming home with three! They were having a buy two get one free promotion. It's an interesting concept. We found this hard grape soda that our friend was looking for so we brought that home too. They have a good beer selection. Everything is sold by the single bottle so you can break up 6 packs at your leisure. Also has a wall of cigars and a slew of home brew supplies. I have been meaning to write a review for Half Time since Christmas but kept forgetting to. My trip in today reminded me. Every time I've been in they have an awesome selection of beers. I've never had any problems finding a beer I wanted. They always have pretty friendly clerks which may surprise you being its all young guys. What really impresses me about this place is there customer service. Around Christmas time we wanted to buy a nicer bottle of beer as a gift and make a label to put on the bottle. We figured since they sell everything to brew your own beer that they may have a label we could purchase. When we asked the clerk (who ended up being the owner) he went into his office and made us a perfect label. I know that seems silly but that little bit of effort goes a long way and we were even more impressed with the store read more

I ordered a father's day gift on 6/10 from their website and they completely dropped the ball. The order was lost and not processed for over a week, missing father's day. I sent an email the Wed before inquiring about the order and got no response. I sent a 2nd email on Sunday and a 3rd on Monday (the day after Father's day) and finally got a response saying the order was not processed and would go out right away. They also said I would get a tracking # via email once it did. Nothing came so I emailed a 4th time asking about the tracking number. I just got that and the order has still not been picked up. It's been 9 days since I placed the order. I understand businesses sometimes drop the ball, things happen. But c'mon guys, at least apologize and prioritize the shipment to next day or something. Being told the order shipped on Monday to find out on Tuesday that it hasn't even left your facility is a blatant lie. After this experience, I'll go elsewhere to fulfill my online orders. read more

Let me first off start out by saying that I had been a loyal Half Time store customer and that I had never had a bad experience before. That is why they are getting 2 stars instead of one. This review is more towards their customer service and beer of the month club that I joined. I had received 3 months of the Stouts and Porters Beer of the Month club from 2 people so in total 6 months that each alternated, from January until June I received the beers. Well that is what I was told. Just like Chad D, I had poor customer service. I dealt with one person in the online department and after asking that a manager was aware at the many issues, I was told that all my issues would be taken care. I also was not going to write this review because I wrote a review on Half Time's site but it was never published so I write where I know it will be published. I also did contact the store multiple times and spoke with management once so its not like I am hiding behind a review. Also I will let you know that this was not my first beer club that I had been part of so I knew what would happen with delayed shipments and all the times I ordered other months it was in the Winter. My first month was January and by the 15th of the month my mother in law did not receive a shipping notice. I emailed them to find out what was going on and the response was they were having issues with the cold (this was during the coldest month of the year so to an extent I understood.) By the week after still no shipping notice, so I emailed again, and was assured I would have it. On January 29th I received my first shipment. I even arranged to take off work to make sure that I would get it. Give them another chance, I said it was their first month, it would not happen again right...February came and I was assured that I would have my beers by mid month, but guess what mid month came, still not a shipping label created or communication from the company. Time to email again and call. After multiple phone calls and emails, I finally got a shipping notice and the beer was delivered on February 27th. March came two days later, don't worry we had issues with the shipping company and with the cold being gone we should not have an issue. Long story short did not get my beer until the last week of the month again. April and May same issues end of the month. At the end of May I finally requested to speak with a manager and when they got on the phone with me, they had no clue of the situation. I have been in retail management for over 10 years and if there were customers that had consistent issues, every member of the leadership team knew them and to take care immediately. This manager had no clue who I was, the situation that I had been in for the previous 4 months and nor did he seem to care. He offered to cancel my orders and refund me the money. Great thats exactly what I wanted(Sarcasm.) June came and I got my beer and July they comped me a month so I got that without problem. Also with each shipment there was supposed to be a paper that explained the beers and the last few did not have the descriptions. In that time I also received a damaged case of beer which they quickly blamed UPS for. They rectified that however and sent another case. The other part of the club that made me unsatisfied was that I had received a lot of doubles. I know stouts and porters are somewhat unique, however if I wanted to get doubles I would have went to the store and bought them myself. Now I was stuck with beer that I was not that happy with and multiples of them. I was hoping that they would have fixed their issues by now but it seems that from other reviews it has not been fixed. I will still come to the store because the selection is great for Dutchess County however until I have to go there I will go somewhere else. read more

I had to do a negative review because their site said they ship to Hawaii, so I spent some time, browsed for a while, picked something out, went through checkout successfully, got my e-mail receipt and then the following day got an e-mail saying "sorry, we don't ship to Hawaii". Well you should've just said that in the first place instead of letting everyone believe you do. They didn't charge me or anything but it's just a bit of a hassle/letdown. read more

However, after realizing that some of the special dispkays were beer that was well past the drink by date, I checked some of the other stock and found shelf items also expired. I'm disappointed in Half Time. Although they do offer a great selection of beers, but it took a long time for my beer to arrive. I've worked in time sensitive environments and understand that sometimes things happen and sometimes someone drops the ball, but when I tried to contact Half Time, it turned into a total run around. I emailed the company on the address provided in one of their confirmation emails 5 days after my beer shipped, (as it should have been out of the shop within 2-3 days), only for the email to be wrong, returned in system delivery failure. I spoke with a man in shipping at half time who confirmed the email they had on their confirmation was wrong. I told him I sent out the order on the 17, and received a shipping confirmation on the 25, over a week after the order was placed. BUT The UPS confirmation said it shipped on the 20th? He said this was common and it usually takes 10-11 days for shipping, including time in the ware house... I find that unusual, especially since I paid more for shipping ($21.43) than the actual cost of the beers($16.14)! I spent $21.43 on shipping, which I originally had no problem at all paying, and the beer ended up being delivered after 11 DAYS! I've ordered with them before, and never noticed any problems. I'm bummed that I have to find somewhere else to find specialty beer, but anythings better than getting the run around just to be disappointed with no closure on the matter, not even an apollogy.. Hands down this is the only place to go if your destination is beer. The loads of different types from Asians, to German beers and MicroBrews are all over, beaming down like necter from the gods. It is my destination before every party I have. The staff is helpful and can provide a beer for you based on a half good description of what you want. I have to reccomend Samurai by Great Divide, it is the best beer in the world and was introduced to me by their staff. read more
