Half Price Books continues to be one of my favorite bookstores. Half Price continues to have competitive prices and plenty of merchandise. I have bought several books from here throughout the years and sold books here as well. The customer service continues to be friendly. I recently came here and found some games as well as a cute calendar for the upcoming year. I appreciate how organized and clean Half Price Books is. they have amazing books but one worker by the name of "Sean" seemed very unwelcoming. They closed at 8, i am writing this is at 8:05 for reference. We were getting our last books together at 8:00 and he walked to us and said "We're closed guys you have to leave" in a very condescending tone which was understandable as they were trying to close so we started heading to the register. As we checked out he was very spaced out and inconsiderate to us and we felt very rushed. This is the first time i've ever felt that way here. Half priced anything is good, right? Sometimes "discount store" means "dusty, disorganized, dig-through store". But, Half Price Books, especially this location, is clean, colorful, nicely organized, well-lit, and tons of fun to explore. Need a coffee table book or something to hone your hobby? The selection is wide. Collect comics as a kid? You will find both old and new titles. Need to park your kids somewhere while you browse a bit? The children's section will keep them busy for hours. Look out! You'll probably go home with some kids books cuz so many are under $5. The staff are helpful, personable and willing to lookup something for you, cross-referencing another store if you like. They do buy books, but not for what you might sell them on Amazon for. But heck, no shipping. And that box is out of your garage faster. I've bought gifts, educational books, humor, kids books for trips, and I keep finding reasons to come to Half Price Books. Whenever we are shopping at Petsmart or World Market next door, we always have the impulse to come in. My last check-in was such a visit, during which I bought a gift for a friend on impulse. I recently visited Half Price Books in Watauga. I brought in about seventeen hard bound books and about sixty DVD's to sell to them. The two persons at the Purchases Station spoke to me as if they were shouting and wanted everyone in the store to know my business with store, although I was only about three feet away. They right away let me know that the DVD's were not of much value and "if" they would buy them, the most they would pay would be half-a-cent per DVD, if that much. I said I would take my DVD's back with me, and I left the books with them, and they would call me the next day with an "offer". I stopped-in the next day and the person at the Purchase Station told me that their "offer" for my 17 or so hard bound books was $1.43. I was so shocked, that I replied: "You call that an offer?". Immediately a man named Sean who seemed like the Store Manager, said in a loud aggressive tone that everyone in the store could hear: "You can take the books back with you!" He probably could not manage a group of animals, never mind a book store. I had been a patron of this store over the last fifteen years, but after this experience, you can imagine how I feel now. read more

Great place to sell used books. The staff is friendly and fair with what they pay for the books.

Pretty much never leave empty-handed. Lots of books, games, cds and vinyl. The vinyl may not feature the rare stuff, but the condition can be particularly good to help fill out collections. The books are a "check here first" for school assigned reading. Lots of other general nerdy merch like puzzles and figures. Bring lots of time with you 'cause it's annoying to have to leave. read more

Seems like someone turned a monkey loose in their vinyl section with a bunch of $40 and $50 price tags. They have a lot of good titles .... and will continue to have them because their prices are massively inflated. I get that "vinyl is back," but whoever is doing the pricing here has no grasp of the vinyl market. (e.g., Used albums priced at double what you could get them for on Amazon brand new; albums you could purchase for $4 on Discogs going for $45.) I get wanting a return on your investment, but either the buyers are waayy overpaying for vinyl or they're expecting waayy too much return. read more

Nice store, very nice employees, tons of books to choose from. The prices cannot be beat. I always check out the Blu Ray section and while its not updated very often they do have a bunch of good movies that for a few dollars can waste a few hours of your night! I'm giving them 4 stars for the fact that even though I brought in 2 suitcases full of magazines and books I was in and out within 30 minutes but they get 1 star for giving me 25 measley dollars for all those magazines and books I sold but according to everyone I talked to I was being unrealistic in thinking I would get anything more than that. I keep all my magazines and books in mint condition and I thought that would up the offer from them but based on what the guy told me who looked through my things, they only consider future 2017 issue magazines worth anything which I don't know who would have future issue magazines laying around, so keep that in mind when bringing in magazines. Other than that the people at this location were nice enough and this location is pretty organized and their CD collection was pretty impressive so I will come back especially for the music. read more

Half-Price Books Fort Worth, Texas Hwy 377 Rating (5 Being the Best) 4.5! Overview So I went to Pei Wei on Hwy 377 just south of the Watauga Target. Not my usual Pei Wei, but just as good! While I'm waiting for my ToGo order I take a walk next door, two doors down. There is a place called Half Price Books. Honestly I really enjoy a good book store, but didn't think much of the name or sign and I've past it up several times before. Today I have time so I walk in. This place is just what a good used book store should be. It's FULL of books. I walk into the smell of old pages, shelves lined, and stuffed, with material from top to bottom. A cove for each section lines the walls with shelves through the middle of the store as well. I found everything from Mitt Romney's Autographed book, to all the For Dummies editions. Then I turn the corner and... It's not just books! They have Wii, PS3, and Xbox games, magazines, comic books. It was a pretty cool experience, and I'll most definitely be back! Cost Exactly what you'd expect. Some items were $50, some were $3. I picked up a For Dummies brand book that retails new for $20 they had it for $9.99. Kids They had a whole area just for kids, it was pretty cool. If you are looking for more kids books for your library at home, stop by Half Price Books. Tips to enjoy it better... The best thing about HPB is that they buy books. OK, it may not be much, but it's easier than ebay, less hassle, and helps de-clutter your abode. Good selection on many topics (and video games too), though prices are a percentage of MSRP, not the going rate on say Amazon or ebay. But if you in a hurry for book, it's still a great option. Oh, and have cup of free, self-service, coffee while you are there. read more

I, personally, love visiting this bookstore when I come to town. The employees are always nice and helpful, whether on the phone or in person. They are happy to show you exactly what you are looking for. The selection of books is impressive from the children's books to self-help to fiction. It's amazing! I have a great time looking at all the new and used books and never leave empty handed. I have often purchased quality board games, which have been sold for a fraction of the cost and in pretty good used condition. I'm not complaining. They make a wonderful addition to my collection and add life to so many parties. read more

The staff need to start greeting customers as they walk in. No one has ever greeted me ever. Overall good customer service when I need help finding something, but it's truly important to feel welcome in a business when you walk in. It's just common sense. You don't even have to make eye contact. Just say welcome, hello .. something! Hopefully the manager will start making the cashier's say hello. read more

This place used to be great and used to have really good bargains on vinyl and books. While they do you have a great selection, I find that their vinyl is way overpriced, especially considering they are used items. They used to have some pretty good bargains. I don't know if it's new management or if it's just due to inflation? Either way, it's priced way too high! Also, be aware that if you are looking to just get rid of books, CDs or vinyl, don't expect to get much money in return for it. You'll get a better deal selling it on Amazon or by having a garage sale. read more

I wish there was a Half Price books closer to Denton. The nearest is in Frisco. Granted we have an amazing store in Denton called Recycled Books, but when I first moved to Texas I got hooked on HPB and it's rare that I'm near one anymore because I always walked out with five or more books. This location was sort of on my way to work, with a detour to Watauga. I went to sell off some books and dvds. I had sold some of my stuff up in Denton and HPB always takes stuff.... granted you might not walk away with alot of money, but you can clean out some clutter and get a little cash for it to boot. A suggestion from one of the employees is that it's best to sell off your items during the colder months because they were loaded down with books and dvds, so I didn't get as much money as I thought I'd get, but it'll pay for a few things I need. read more

Why aren't you in Colorado!? Since leaving DFW, we've been a little HPB depressed. That's why every trip to Texas includes a trip to Half Price Books, without fail. Sure, you could buy a book online or at your nearest B&N, but what could be better than supporting a local chain? There's a pretty wide variety of books that you won't be disappointed. Horrible, horrible, horrible. I took in 23 name brand jigsaw puzzles that have been worked one time, all pieces guaranteed, and sealed in the original packaging. I was offered 25 cents each, because the manager said that they would just be sold for recycling. But, wait, there was a women that saw me bring them in and wanted to buy them right away. I paid over $10 per puzzle and he offered 25 cents. Two weeks before, I sold puzzles at this same store for almost $2 each. Manager said I should have a garage sale. Duh. If I wanted to have a garage sale, I wouldn't have brought them into Half Price Books. Getta clue. People that like to work puzzles don't want to spend $10 each. Don't plan on recyclyling them. This store has become to commerical for my taste. Back in the day it was an awesome place to hang out. Now every soccer mom and PTA member wants to be seen. The prices have gone way up and the quality of books has gone way down. I kind of feel ripped off. The type of people who go in there these days crowd the DVDs and ignore all the rest. The selection at this store has really gone downhill in the past year. Their clearance prices are also high compared to other Half Price Books stores. I usually can find something to buy when I go to any Half Price, but not this one (and if I can't- my husband can). We have been 3 times in the past 2 weeks and haven't bought a thing. Not even my book hound of a niece- and that is amazing. She also sold a huge bag of books for only $9. I am sure that they will make a tidy profit on that alone. I'd never been in one of these stores before this past weekend. After reading some other reviews, I was expecting a dusty, musty experience. Not so! I was very surprised by how organized and clean this store was and how friendly the staff were. There is lots to choose from in many, many categories - including new books and CDs. And the prices are amazing! Hubs and I bought 3 CDs and a cookbook for a total of $30. BTW, if you like to cook and/or collect cookbooks, they've got a good assortment to choose from. I saw quite a few titles that I already own and paid 2-3 times or more for. Most appeared to be either brand new or gently used. I plan to go back and peruse a bit more thoroughly soon (and probably quit the so-called reduced price book club I belong to). read more

Half-price books is basically the reason we're only half-broke instead of broke. My wife's favorite hobbies are reading and cooking, and this place saves us money on both. Heck, sometimes we go here to look around as a destination activity, not planning to buy anything. They have some B-list software (occasionally some good buys), magazines, dvds, CDs and records as well as books. They also have some first editions and classic versions of books. The clearance section is the place to check. For $2-4, you can get some great books and some decent movies that they just happen to have a glut of. (Yes I know I ended that sentence with a preposition. I hope it doesn't single-handedly lead to the corruption of today's youth.) If you've been to a half-price books before, this is just another one. But they're all 5-star in my book. Except the giant one in Dallas, which is some amount of stars which is uncountable by human minds. read more

I was really surprised by how big this Half Price is. I used to frequent the Bedford branch and was sure that one in Watauga would be about the same size, but I was oh so wrong. It's really big, nice, and new looking. Also, we got better prices for the things we sold here than at the Bedford store. So in addition to a huge selection, you'll get a better bang for your buck if you're trading in your old stuff. It's the only one we go to now unless we can get out to the huge flagship store in Dallas. read more

The Phoenix area has a small chain called Bookmans that specializes in many forms of media- used and new- with an awesome selection of "hard to find" collectibles like vinyl, comics, first edition books, etc. Walking into Half Price Books (HPB) I was immediately reminded of Bookmans. The store is large, and sectioned by genre and media type. They have a great children's section, some vinyl, cassettes, games, well... a little bit of everything. I was only able to spend 30-40 minutes in the store, which is not enough to really get a feel for their inventory. As well as I could see, these were mostly new books listed at (wait for it) half price the retail amount. I didn't need to interact with the staff but they were everywhere and seemed open to helping others find what they were looking for. Loving the fact that this is a local establishment, so we spent some money here. I can't wait to head back- I wanted to check out the video game corner, see what they had. I did see some retro games and systems (Atari 2500, Intellivision, 8-bit Nintendo, etc.). Cool!! read more

More 3.5 stars...I haven't been to this location in a while but it was noticeably cleaner and more organized than the last time. I went to sell some books and look in the children's area for some stories to add to my son's collection. We found a couple books for him but did walk out with the bag of books I came to sell. I had several excellent condition/never read books along with a selection of others and a couple CDs but was only offered 7.50. I know they low-ball so they have a way to profit but come on. The girl said it's supply/demand and they were bringing in so many books at their location. I thanked her for checking on the books but took them back to try at another location - or even garage sale! There was a short line when I went to check out, but another employee offered to help me so I didn't have to wait. Friendly service but not great deals if you're looking to sell. read more

I really like the size of this half price books. I will admit that I don't get as much as I'd hope but honestly I'm usually bringing in boxes of magazines and such that my grandma & mom give me. I usually don't get as much per say as other places but they do take more of what I bring them than other half price books in the area with smaller stores, or other resell places in the area. To the prior post about text books, my rule is take your textbooks to a local campus bookstore on campus or off before bringing them here, same goes about video games and dvd's if there is another place near buy that focuses on buying and selling those things, they are the place to try first because you will get more for them than here that sells a little bit of everything. Anyway, the staff here has always been a lot nicer and friendly than other half price books I've been too. I've generally been lucking finding books for my daughter and other kids in my life for $1 or less ... This week even we found some Disney books for .50 cents for her and a few months ago a bunch of Winnie the pooh books for $1 each. (I got a valentines day one, spring, fall, etc to put in gift baskets for my kiddo when each book fell into place.) I usually don't shop much for myself though so I can't speak much on the adult areas, though my friend Jeremy usually walks out with 2-3 books anytime we go in. read more

It's a half price books you can't really complain about it, I always stop by when I go to the petsmart next door to see if there are any cool old vinyls that would be great to pick up. The place has tons of books, movies, comics, games etc it is awesome!!!! If you love books and don't want to pay barnes and nobles prices just come by half price, it's not as organized and they don't have an inventory of what they have but it's part of the fun to walk in and browse until you find that special book for yourself. The staff is always friendly and they can point you in the right direction. There are new books too so if you are looking for a new release they are there too. Overall a great place to look and browse to get a book for a rainy day. And since it's been raining so much it's a great time to curl up and read a good book. read more

Great place for books in general. The staff are super nice, and helpful and they love my retriever. (she gets lots of attention and treats whenever we go there). I've brought books to sell before and didn't get as much money as I had hoped, but totally understand this is a business and they need to pay the rent and employees. This location almost always has what I need, and I get to use my teacher's discount. The staff is helpful and friendly. I like this location much better than the one in Arlington--this one seems to stay well-stocked because they buy books from patrons in the Keller area. I also find a lot of the books I need for class, so I know other students/teachers sell back books here. read more

I'm not sure I agree with Diane T.'s assessment of "organized and clean" this store is. It's a standard Half Price Books. The "Salvation Army" discount store of books. It's not bad, it's just used books. The only thing that REALLY irks me are the offers that they give on used books. I sold half of my graduate school books there and literally got pennies on the dollar. I went back to see what they did with the books and the markup on resale was pretty high. That's not an insult to the store, that's how they do business. Nothing wrong with it, you still get to get a little money back for your used books, and you get to find some pretty awesome "used" books for bargains. read more
