I originally gave Half Price Auto a good review. That was before they killed my Toyota Minivan. I was leaking oil and they "fixed" the leak by replacing a hose at a reasonable price of $100. I was sent on my way and a few days later drove to far Northern Wisconsin. In the middle of nowhere my check engine oil light comes on and seconds later the front end is smoking. I stopped and called for the inevitable tow truck. It was brought to their Shop and the mechanic informs me Half Price Auto used a standard hose where a high heat pressure line should have been used. This mechanic indicated it was a "no brainer" and any mechanic would have known not to use the hose Half Price Auto used. To worsen my situation, the engine was trash after the oil quickly drained out at highway speeds. I went back to Half Price Auto and they offered to do nothing to compensate me for killing my engine. They suggested I have the car towed 4 hours to their shop where they would look at it and decide if they used the wrong hose. They said they would consider splitting the cost of putting in a (used) engine. No, how about you contact the other mechanic or any other mechanic to verify you used the wrong part. How about you pay to tow the car back. How about you pay to replace the engine destroyed by your error. How about apologizing for your mechanics mistake? I guess that's what I get for trying to find Half Price Auto repair. read more

Half-Price Auto Repair - Auto Repair Near Me - West Bend, Wisconsin

We have used Half-Price Auto for years. My Dad and I have always been happy with the service and accommodations. The team is very good to deal with and the pricing is very fair. Half-Price Auto can work on your standard cars as well as the hybrids. Never had a bad experience with this shop. I would highly recommend. read more

I had a battery replaced and the car broke down within an hour and wouldn't start. I had it towed to my regular mechanic and he looked at it the following day and said whoever put the battery in didn't do a reset. I called FORD and they confirmed that this is necessary and needs to be done. I called half price and requested a refund, considering they ended up costing me an extra $1,000 approximately and they yelled and swore at me and hung up. $95 for my mechanic to figure out what was wrong, $165 for a tow, $15 for taxi, $20 for gas for uncle and my girlfriend and I both missed work. Not to mention I was so stressed I wanted to vomit thinking something major was wrong. All this because this unprofessional clown didn't know what he was doing. read more

Six stars if that's possible... I took my truck into Half Price Auto for a checkup before taking a long trip. Fortunately, they were able to identify some problems in the front end (ball joints, etc.) that they were able to fix before my trip. I now feel much more secure and confident that my truck will get me there safely. No one wants a breakdown on the road! Although it was a big fix, the bill was very reasonable. They even told me to put some miles on it and they'd check things again before I departed. I can't recommend them highly enough, John the owner, and his skilled staff, Phil, Anthony (and Anthony's cousin), and Mary, who ably runs the desk. Do yourself a favor and go here before the word gets out. I would too, but I'm from out of state. read more

AVOID!! First of all, there's a 4% surcharge for using a credit card. I didn't see this because I didn't step into the building until I was picking up. It was 15 minutes before closing and I had no way to get a check or cash in the time allotted. They don't line item services, just says part and install with 1 price. We should get details on parts cost, labor costs, time etc. Really kind of an amateur setup. Sorry, but details should be provided on what cost what, labor time etc. Then there's the unauthorized work performed of a front end alignment. He mentioned over the phone the tires were wearing funny and asked if I new front struts. Told him I had tie rods, ball joints and struts done late last spring. At that point I had an alignment done which had a 12 month warranty. So they checked and repaired without me saying to perform that. So I had to pay for something that I never authorized. I could of stood there and argued but I had leave(more on that later). Customer service just plain sucks. When I called Wednesday morning to see if they could look they said drop off this morning. Well I work 8 to 4:30 and said I would drop off after hours. Got those details. Dropped off. Thursday morning at 12:30, no emails no contact no nothing. So I called them. Got put on hold, than hung up on(it happens). So I called back, was told they test drove and said couldn't duplicate. So he said he'd put it on the rack and check underneath. At 3:15 I called back since they close at 5 and said it's the u-joint which is what i told him on the phone Wednesday morning. So he says 'You didn't want the car back today did you'? Um yeah, it's 0 degrees and a 28 mile walk to work without a car so I needed a rental. Well never heard another word of them Thursday, so I'm stuck. 2nd day of rental car. Friday rolls around no calls in the morning. Not wanting to a pest I wait until the afternoon. I called at 2:30 because I was getting nervous. Owner answered and said cars all done come pick it up. I said I'm at work until 4:30, can I make payment over the phone and pickup after hours. He says sure but he can't take payments and they would call me shortly. 3:00 no call, 3:30 no call, 4:00 no call. So at 4:15 I pack up my laptop and head up to get the car. I couldn't take the chance of them not closing out my bill and since they're not open on weekends being without my car for the weekend. Get there at 4:40ish and wait about 5 minutes before someone shows at the counter. Get told the total, make the payment and head home so I can finish the days work. As for repair quality, can't tell you as of yet but if it's anything like their customer service and communication, it likely sucks or is barely adequate. So yeah next time I'll go to Bob's up the street or just about anywhere else. I've said my peace. Well that's the nice thing about credit cards, charge back for unsolicited services. As for not being happy with a service center it's not that I'm unhappy with them as much as I've moved and they're no longer convenient. read more

Don't let the name give you a bad impression, these guys are awesome and do great work. My son's car needed a clutch. I took it to another shop in town who quoted $1,900!! I knew that was way to high for a clutch so I shopped around and found Half-price Auto. They were great from the start. They worked with me to get the car in right away, they diagnosed it for free (the other shop charged me $78 just to diagnose the problem), and they fixed it in a day. Their price was $975 (well a little more after we added in replacing the starter right away too). The work was done well and they were very proactive in contacting me throughout. John, who I spoke to multiple times over the phone and in person, is super friendly. The facilities itself are pretty old-school as far as what you'd expect from an auto shop, but they do have a nice comfortable waiting room. I honestly can't think of anything negative about my experience with them. I highly recommend folks check them out. read more

Stopped in to get an estimate, spent about 2 minutes talking to a mechanic who had to be the kid playing bango in deliverance, walked out with no estimate went to a competitor who took care of the problem, if you value your self respect go some where else. read more
