My husband and I went on a 7 mile walk/hike around Kīlauea so by the time we got back to our hotel, I was literally wiped out. My whole body was sore and the pain on my legs, feet, and back was so bad I cannot even described it. I told my husband I wish there is a massage place near us that I can go to. He found Hale Ho'ola Spa Volcano and after reading the different treatments, he said I should make a reservation. Suzanne, the owner, responded to my text right away and said she can take me at 6pm if it's not too late. OMG - the best massage ever! I asked for a 90 minute lomilomi massage and mentioned to her during our text messagings that I am not sure what to get. She told me that she will do whatever my body wants and that's exactly what she did - she seemed to know what my body needed at that time. She used hot stone on my tummy and my hands, massaged my scalp, applied lotion and scents that are very soothing and smell really nice. And her hands - healing!!! The pressure was just right - it was just perfect. The pain on my legs and feet were gone by the time she's done. I am a massage connoisseur as I go get massages often both in the US and during my travels internationally. I always get good massages but this is the best so far - Suzanne really has healing hands. I came to get a message early August 2025 with Suzanne, the owner of the company. The spa is a closed off area in a home and dedicated solely for massage rooms and whatnot. It's a beautiful vibe to the room-- rainforest, cool, breezy, sometimes rainy, calming atmosphere. The rooms are dark and relaxing. The massage was absolutely beautiful. They are very attentive, and they make sure to check with you for any areas that you would like to focus on. I wanted a more relaxing massage rather than deep tissue and she executed that exactly as I wished. You can tell that she is very skilled, and she has mastered her craft. I also got the scalp treatment and it was amazing on my long hair. She had moisturized my hair deeply, covered it with a hot steaming towel, and later rinsed it out. The lotion and oils used to massage as well as the moisturizers and oils for the scalp smell SO GOOD! I left the spa smelling amazing and also with my skin moisturized and feeling softer than ever. My husband and I drove 2.5 hours across the island for this magical rain forest massage and it was worth it! It was rainy and that added a mystical magic in the air. The products used smell naturally pleasant (rather than typical scented or perfumed oils/lotions) and the therapists were pros, releasing any tension in our bodies. Absolutely wonderful gem we were blessed to come across! My 34 year old boyfriend and I were on a week long vacation in Hawaii. On the morning of our first full day, he started to have extreme back pain, to the point he could not get in the car or do much movement at all without having severe back spasms. Settling on the LomiLomi with aromatherapy and oils. Shauvon (sp?) was welcoming and with a gentle demeanor and soft spoken nature.However, she made sure you knew your needs were a priority as to what areas of tension need help, type of pressure and any other concerns. My cousin went first as I relaxed on the patio. Upon completion she said you will be amazed. The tranquil carefully decorated and comfortable room was fabulous. Got the lomi lomi massage and got an excellent mix of forearm and palm kneading with some finger work. Scalp and neck felt relaxed and it eased pain around my lower back and hip muscles. Unfortunately, didn't not down her name. Massage does vary quite a bit by masseuse. If you want a more atmospheric massage than tenderizing (which is a matter of preference), complete with with sound bowls and loud ringing placed by your ears, I think the masseuse who provided more of that flavor we Suzanne. We were so lucky to schedule a couple rejuvenation package with an extra 30min massage that was amazing. The package consisted of a body scrub, facial, steam or body wrap and 90min massage (normally 60mins). We did the Rejuvenation package and it was worth every penny. They therapists are skilled and most importantly, giving. Now, know that it's not a fancy spa at the Four Seasons. It's the side of a beautiful residential home converted to a massage parlor. So there is no sauna (that I know of) or multiple lounges-- it's a massage room. ***Don't be turned off by that.*** The services provided are of the same quality, if not better, than at spa with fancy facilities. We were able to book 2 last minute massages with Suzanne that were incredibly good. (Note that reservations a week or more ahead are necessary, especially if 'in season'!). I had tweaked my back a few days ago, and my spouse was just interested in a deep tissue massage. Suzanne worked to identify specific areas of concern and then used a combination of pressure points and stretching to work on the affected areas. I've been getting lomilomi massages for years from a friend in New York (he's Hawaiian and trained there, then picked up other techniques along the way) and was worried I was spoiled for life. It's a technique that goes beyond muscle release and relaxation into something healing and spiritual. When another Hawaiian friend heard I would be vacationing on the Big Island with family she insisted I try her friend Suzanne's spa. The first clue this was an excellent idea was when my sister-in-law came back looking blissfully rumpled and declared "That was the best message I've ever had." And this is a woman not given to hyperbole. As others have mentioned, the spa is in a private home and when you enter you feel enveloped in a soothingly warm, wonderfully scented embrace. The massage table is unlike any I've ever been on - warm, cushy, transporting - I'd imagine it's the closest you can get to the womb as an adult. The massage itself is a combination of stretching and deep tissue (and other things I don't know the words for), and Suzanne is an expert who obviously puts a lot of herself into her work. First, she listens to what you say you need, then she listens to your body and what it needs. And then you walk out of there soft and satisfied like a stick of butter left out on a warm day, swearing that if you could afford to live in Hawaii you'd move in next door and do this once a week. Or at least that's what I said. Don't schedule a massage on a day you plan to do anything else. You'll want to extend the bliss. read more
