If you're visiting the Big Island on vacation, save yourself the runaround -- book with one of the many wonderful spas that will reliably communicate with you and honor your appointment. This was unfortunately my second frustrating experience with Hale Ho'ōla. The first was in September 2022, when Suzanne left me hanging for three days before eventually telling me she couldn't accommodate a couples massage. I decided to give Hale Ho'ōla another chance this year. On September 1, I arranged a couples massage for September 15 to celebrate my wedding anniversary with my husband. Suzanne told me she had availability from 4-8pm, I selected 4pm, and provided my email address as requested. On the morning of our appointment, I realized I'd never received the confirmation email or any instructions, so at 9:54am I texted Suzanne to make sure we were still on for 4pm. She read my message but didn't respond. Around 2pm, as we were preparing for the 2+ hour drive from Kona, I followed up again. She read that message too, but again didn't respond. Suzanne finally called around 2:30pm, after we had already been driving for about 30 minutes. She explained that she'd been dealing with power outages over the previous few days, which I completely understand. However, she also admitted that she had forgotten to put our appointment on her schedule and couldn't see us until after 7pm. I asked whether the following day would work better for her. She said yes it would, but needed to confirm with her other therapist and would get back to me. She never did. I followed up again that evening, which she read without responding. It wasn't until around 4:30pm the following day that she finally texted to say she couldn't make it work. Mistakes and unexpected circumstances happen. What I find unacceptable is the repeated lack of communication. Had Suzanne responded to either of my messages, we never would have started a 2+ hour drive for an appointment that wasn't actually on her schedule. What makes this especially disappointing is that we had specifically planned this couples massage as part of our wedding anniversary celebration. Her lack of communication and organization threw a wrench into our plans and wasted precious vacation time that we can't get back. Instead of enjoying that time together, we spent it driving toward an appointment that didn't exist and then waiting around the following day to find out whether she could accommodate us. As a small business owner myself, I understand that running a business isn't easy. But communicating with customers and honoring confirmed arrangements -- or promptly taking responsibility when something goes wrong -- is basic professionalism. read more

My husband and I went on a 7 mile walk/hike around Kīlauea so by the time we got back to our hotel, I was literally wiped out. My whole body was sore and the pain on my legs, feet, and back was so bad I cannot even described it. I told my husband I wish there is a massage place near us that I can go to. He found Hale Ho'ola Spa Volcano and after reading the different treatments, he said I should make a reservation. Suzanne, the owner, responded to my text right away and said she can take me at 6pm if it's not too late. OMG - the best massage ever! I asked for a 90 minute lomilomi massage and mentioned to her during our text messagings that I am not sure what to get. She told me that she will do whatever my body wants and that's exactly what she did - she seemed to know what my body needed at that time. She used hot stone on my tummy and my hands, massaged my scalp, applied lotion and scents that are very soothing and smell really nice. And her hands - healing!!! The pressure was just right - it was just perfect. The pain on my legs and feet were gone by the time she's done. I am a massage connoisseur as I go get massages often both in the US and during my travels internationally. I always get good massages but this is the best so far - Suzanne really has healing hands. I will definitely be back. On a side note: a dog lover as well. I was able to see 5 very cute puppies that Suzanne is taking care of and the cute and protective dog mom. read more

I don't usually review on yelp but I would like a more updated and recent review for those inquiring about this spa. This spa provided amazing service! I came to get a message early August 2025 with Suzanne, the owner of the company. The spa is a closed off area in a home and dedicated solely for massage rooms and whatnot. It's a beautiful vibe to the room-- rainforest, cool, breezy, sometimes rainy, calming atmosphere. The rooms are dark and relaxing. The massage was absolutely beautiful. They are very attentive, and they make sure to check with you for any areas that you would like to focus on. I wanted a more relaxing massage rather than deep tissue and she executed that exactly as I wished. You can tell that she is very skilled, and she has mastered her craft. I also got the scalp treatment and it was amazing on my long hair. She had moisturized my hair deeply, covered it with a hot steaming towel, and later rinsed it out. The lotion and oils used to massage as well as the moisturizers and oils for the scalp smell SO GOOD! I left the spa smelling amazing and also with my skin moisturized and feeling softer than ever. My husband and I drove 2.5 hours across the island for this magical rain forest massage and it was worth it! It was rainy and that added a mystical magic in the air. The products used smell naturally pleasant (rather than typical scented or perfumed oils/lotions) and the therapists were pros, releasing any tension in our bodies. Suzanne began setting the tone with a ceremonial spirit-led prayer/chant and she ended it the same. LOMI LOMI is the best massage I have ever experienced in my life and I am a 53 year old massage connoisseur that experiences massage every vacation and different countries. Absolutely wonderful gem we were blessed to come across! My 34 year old boyfriend and I were on a week long vacation in Hawaii. On the morning of our first full day, he started to have extreme back pain, to the point he could not get in the car or do much movement at all without having severe back spasms. Shivanne works at Hale Ho'ola along with the hotel we were staying at, where we ran into her. Her compassion for the pain my boyfriend was experiencing was unmatched. She contacted Suzanne who managed to squeeze him in early the next morning. The difference from when he walked into that appointment to when he came out of it is unreal. I am truly amazed. While he still had some back pain, it is so minimal compared to what it was. Suzanne was welcoming to both of us, I sat outside and pet her cat and drank tea while he was getting worked on. He seemed near healed after which is amazing. Rather it be her demeanor, spiritual strength, motivational words, how skilled she is at her practice, the teachings she's had in the past, likely a combination of all, she is amazing, Shivanne is amazing, this place is amazing. Truly a God wink led us to this piece of paradise as we sought to have the local massage experience. Tough to choose which one with so many choices. Settling on the LomiLomi with aromatherapy and oils. Shauvon (sp?) was welcoming and with a gentle demeanor and soft spoken nature.However, she made sure you knew your needs were a priority as to what areas of tension need help, type of pressure and any other concerns. My cousin went first as I relaxed on the patio. Upon completion she said you will be amazed. The tranquil carefully decorated and comfortable room was fabulous. All the lotion, oil and more options were overwhelming. I chose a body butter scented with traditional Hawaiian flowers. I also mentioned a knee with some arthritis issues which she used CBD cream on. Today I still feel great before my long flight back to the mainland. Shauvon has medical massage training and it is evident on her touch, working out tense muscles and more. Got the lomi lomi massage and got an excellent mix of forearm and palm kneading with some finger work. Scalp and neck felt relaxed and it eased pain around my lower back and hip muscles. Unfortunately, didn't not down her name. Massage does vary quite a bit by masseuse. If you want a more atmospheric massage than tenderizing (which is a matter of preference), complete with with sound bowls and loud ringing placed by your ears, I think the masseuse who provided more of that flavor we Suzanne. My fiance and I had amazing massages by Soibhan after a long morning of hiking. He got the Lomi Lomi and I got a hot stone massage. Afterward, we were both so relaxed and smelled like the islands! We were so lucky to schedule a couple rejuvenation package with an extra 30min massage that was amazing. The package consisted of a body scrub, facial, steam or body wrap and 90min massage (normally 60mins). The ladies (Jennifer and Jeanella) performed the lovely experience in a room surrounded with the breathtaking ambiance of the sounds of hawaiian birds and winds of the forest. Suzanne wasn't there for our massages but she arranged for Kahanu and Jeanella to be our therapists. They were glorious. My partner was in tears at the end (good tears) of her massage. We did the Rejuvenation package and it was worth every penny. They therapists are skilled and most importantly, giving. Now, know that it's not a fancy spa at the Four Seasons. It's the side of a beautiful residential home converted to a massage parlor. So there is no sauna (that I know of) or multiple lounges-- it's a massage room. ***Don't be turned off by that.*** The services provided are of the same quality, if not better, than at spa with fancy facilities. We were able to book 2 last minute massages with Suzanne that were incredibly good. (Note that reservations a week or more ahead are necessary, especially if 'in season'!). I had tweaked my back a few days ago, and my spouse was just interested in a deep tissue massage. Suzanne worked to identify specific areas of concern and then used a combination of pressure points and stretching to work on the affected areas. We have had A LOT of Massages and this was hands down the most complete, relaxing, caring, spiritual, fantastic Massage we have ever had!! Suzanna is wonderful. I had the pohaku pa'a (hot stone) massage and it was delightful. The environment is peaceful and relaxing. I had to wait outside for an hour for my mom to have her massage and the time flew by. The weather was lovely, air smelled great and the music of the birds was serene. Thank God I found Suzanne! I mean it! I arrived with knots and pain in my back and numb hands and arms. I had been seeing my chiro and acupuncurist regularly prior to my visit. Finally when I was on vacation I had time to find someone to help me and help me she did! Suzanne worked my over in a very good way. She did the most exceptional, nearly 2 hour session of body work. She did loom loom and structural alignment and worked on my muscles at their points of insertion and origin. I was so thankful that I found her.
