I've frequented Halcyon quite a bit over the past several years and love the overall ability of this place to pivot from a coffee to cocktail lounge so effortlessly. I went this morning for brunch with my wife and I must highly recommend everyone try their brunch menu. My wife ordered the avocado toast with salmon and I had the heirloom toast- both delicious. The heirloom toast is toast with lemon ricotta, balsamic drizzle, diced tomatoes, basil, basically a take on bruschetta and very delicious! The variety of coffee is notable and makes Halcyon a must hit breakfast spot. Be advised they require you check in upon arrival during the weekend brunch in order to be seated which is different than during the week. I'd like to mention something outside of the typical food review that deserves mentioning. I witnessed an elderly man and his wife seat themselves right next to us without prior check in with the waitstaff. I saw the staff notice and the hostess or possibly manager on duty then approached them. The kindness and courtesy she displayed when handling the situation was exceptional. Not only was she hospitable to them but ensured they received menus while explaining to them that check in at the host stand was required on weekends. In this day it's nice to see such grace and it made us realize that Halcyon is more than good food and drinks, but a safe space where all are treated with care and kindness. read more

Halcyon is a great place to get some good coffee and delicious food. I was at Halcyon on a Monday afternoon(Memorial Day) and it was happy hour all day on Monday. I got a Thai coffee and it brought me back to when I was in Bangkok in 2023. The Thai coffee wasn't too sweet and that is the way it's supposed to be. I got the Thick Chicks since it was at happy hour prices for $6. You get four Mac and cheese and chicken egg rolls with ranch and another dipping sauce. They were nicely sized and very tasty. I highly recommend them for happy hour or regular price. The service was very good except one thing. I wish they would have a speaker system that would allow people to clearly hear when your name is called to get your coffee. I missed my name the first time and someone took my coffee by mistake. I loud speaker system to inform people that their coffee is ready will fix this issue. It's a cool place and I still recommend this place. I hope that management fixes the one major issue. read more

Came here for brunch with a friend and enjoyed the convenient Southtown location. Lots of parking and it's right off the River Walk bike trail, so it's a perfect pit stop for a nice bike ride too. I enjoyed my breakfast burrito and my friend had a breakfast sandwich with avocado - they forgot the avocado but they brought it by so she could add it in herself (a little messy). I really enjoyed my burrito, it was filling and pretty tasty. The soft tortilla wrapped everything tightly so the filling didn't fall out. It was a good balance of eggs, sausage, cheese, and potatoes. This place is a true gem!! Happy hour is amazing with a great selection drinks and food! You can easily get full for 2 for less than $35! We got the 1/2 plate pesto pasta, which was super flavorful (although pretty oily). Also got the chicken biscuit, which had a large chunk of chicken, as well as the cheesy tots! The long island ice teas were only $6! And they have wine, beer, cocktails, and coffee too! The indoor area has plenty of seating, with options to sit on the outdoor patio. I loved loved loved the vibe of this place! It's a coffee bar and a real bar and they also have snacks! They're open until 2am too. The whole place is decorated for Pride and they have a couple great spots for Instagram pictures. The music was great, drinks were reasonably priced and tasted amazing and the overall vibe of Halcyon was perfect. The bartenders were so nice and quick with making our drinks. They also had a ton of seating too, so we were able to enjoy our drinks while relaxing towards the back at a big table. I would definitely come back to enjoy the vibe and service of Halcyon. Pet's are welcome. The staff is very friendly. I did test their ability to flex their menu, and they were very accommodating. I asked if they could make a hard version of their espresso shake, and they did. Delicious. I do recommend trying out items from their bar menu... I tried their Cheat Day (buffalo chicken breast slices over Mac and cheese). It was very good. The bartenders were very capable. Margaritas, dirty horchayas, etc. were all good. Love the vibes when we come here. They have happy hour every day 2-6 and all day Monday. Came for breakfast on a Sunday. They had a DJ and 70's/80's music that meshed with the vibes. I tried the overnight french toast and if you're one for a sweet tooth for the start of your day, this is it. We ordered the Goods to share for my fill of eggs and potatoes while my partner wanted the biscuit and bacon. And to top off our meal with a mimosa and my partner got an espresso martini. The wait is literally ALWAYS at least 15-20minutes even on slow days. The last 10 times I've been here for a simple latte it's been not busy yet the wait is still horrendous. To avoid this, I tried calling it in. So when I get there the cashier tells me they never received the call and acts clueless. She then tells me it's hard to hear on the phone, basically telling me she either forgot or just said screw me even though she confirmed my order at the end of the phone call. I remember being exited when Halcyon opened because I was very familiar with a similarly named coffee beverage bar in Austin. I had tried the Vietnamese coffee in the Austin one and loved it, so I wanted to try it in our San Antonio one. Fast forward more than 8 years and I still haven't tried the Vietnamese coffee at Halcyon, but I have been many times, and they don't disappoint. Halcyon is located in South Town, which already makes it a great coffee spot to visit. I have had both coffee and tea at this location, and they are always brewed perfectly. This is a chill place with an ideal laidback atmosphere. Their servers have always been friendly, and the place is very spacey and comfortable. It's a bit far for me, otherwise I'd be here more often. None the less, I feel it is worth the trip to South Town and love coming here when I can. read more

First off, the ambience of the restaurant was great, the place had the look of a bar, but the feel of a coffee shop where you could get some work done and lounge around. But upon entering the establishment we were not greeted. Myself, being from a restaurant background, believe it should be the first thing to do upon seeing a guest enter the restaurant. The lady was nice that checked us out. I ordered a mocha cap with oat milk while my friend ordered the same with regular milk. We ordered at the same time, I ordered mine for there and shortly came out after. While waiting I watched the barista pour my steamed oat milk into the cup of espresso and over pour making a mess and leaving stains on my cup. The latte did not presentable and upon picking it up at the counter she just laughed it off. My friends came out 15 minutes after his name was incorrectly pronounced upon it being ready. It sat there until they called his name a second time, this time correctly. It came out in a Togo cup and he even corrected them when picking up the cap. They just stared at him as if they didn't care to fix the mistake they made. Not impressed with this establishment as I know it's been around for a while at Blue Star. We went to Halcyon to kick off our New Year's Eve and it was so chill and unique! It was super nice to sit back and enjoy looking at the art around the cafe while we sipped on our drinks. The Peppermint Hot Chocolate was smooth and rich, and the flavors perfectly complimented one another without overpowering one or the other. The matcha latte was just as delicious, and as a former barista I will say it's one of the best matcha drinks I've tasted.
