I was really hesitant to try somewhere new today, but I am SOOO glad I did. I got the chicken and falafel wrap and it was absolutely delicious. The pita itself was warm and fluffy, the chicken had a great flavor, and the falafel was a bit spicy and had a crunch to it that added a nice variety to the wrap. Service was friendly. As others have mentioned this place is awesome. It is packed so if you are coming with family I would say to send somebody ahead to find a table as most of the students aren't really that well mannered. They will sit and just be on there phones not even eat and they wont leave the table either for a family to sit. Other than that the food taste identical to 53rd and 6th in NY, surprisingly the actual halal guy chain in Houston tastes like crap but this place is the next best thing after NY Gyro. The combo plate is great, both meats are delicious, the rice is really good, the white sauce is crack, and the red sauce is actually brutally spicy (which I like-- be warned if you don't like spicy). I LOVE this place. You get a lot of food for $7-8! I always order the combination plate (chicken + gyro) over rice and it lasts me at least two meals. Everything is fresh and flavorful. Let me start out with saying, THE HYPE IS REAL!!! Everyone I know always tells me how amazing this place is and after four years I finally tried it. So many regrets are occurring right now because this small restaurant was amazing! I took one look at the line and I was ready to leave but my boyfriend convinced me not to. We saw others eating and realized the portion was so big for a single order so we decided to share and order a side of hummus. We ordered the chicken over rice and it was Sooo flavorful. After reading others reviews, we definitely should've got extra white sauce, but regardless it was amazing. Can I also add how cheap it is for the portion they give you!? Also, the hummus....phenomenal. I usually really don't like hummus at restaurants but I decided to order it today to share since I had friends that wanted to share some. The hummus was so flavorful and just indescribable. I literally paid $2.99 for a carton that could serve 4-5 people that I usually would pay $4.99 at the grocery store. I highly recommend getting the hummus with pita bread. Overall this place was amazing. Cons: the place is very easy to miss. It's a small shop on the side of the road with parking for about 5 cars. It took about 20 minutes for our to go order to be ready (they weren't very busy when we came in.) They partially messed up our order. Pros: Cheap, friendly, fantastic flavor. We ordered the combination over rice plate, 2 chicken shawarma sandwiches, 2 falaffel sandwiches, and I ordered a chicken shawerma plate and added lamb shawerma (for an extra $3.50.) The falaffel was delicious, the chicken shawarma was also delicious, and the combination was ABSOLUTELY fantastic. The rice, oh my god, it has so much flavor. I've never had rice that has this much flavor. The only real issue I had was the dish with extra meat. I ordered a chicken shawarma plate and added lamb, but what I got instead was a beef shawarma over rice and a chicken and beef shawarma over rice. I have no idea why that is, and I was disappointed because I really wanted to try the lamb. I also didn't really like the beef shawerma. It tasted good, but it was somewhat dry and tough. The sauce was good, but it tasted like ranch to me. I will ABSOLUTELY be back here when I visit Austin again. Oh and for those who were wondering, the meal came out to be $40. I was so intrigued with this place because of how people talk about Halal Guys in Austin yet I've heard from some people that this one in Austin is actually better even though they aren't affiliated with each other. We ordered a couple things. The lamb & chicken combination over rice barely had any meat, it had a good amount of rice and some veggies. The white sauce on top of it was good but the chili sauce wasn't great, it wasn't a good compliment to the other stuff. When mixed all together, this reminds me of a Mediterranean Chipotle! Definitely a delicious satisfying meal and they give you enough for 2 meals. We also got the beef shawarma. Now thissss had ALOT of meat! Wow it was practically just meat in pita bread. There was hardly any veggies. The pita itself was soft and did not crumble from my bite. The flavor was really tangy though. One thing I'm not crazy about is how both meals had a very strong flavor of cumin, it was almost overpowering. Overall, the price was reasonable for the size of the food. Parking is difficult and the place is tiny so if you live nearby, I'd recommend just getting it to-go. read more

This place was a little hard to find and parking was difficult since they had three spots in the front. When we went, they weren't busy at all. I got the combination over rice and it was not disappointing at all. I had just wished that they had put a little more sauce. Halal bro's has improved dramatically over the years in my opinion, as if that was even possible. I definitely think the basmati rice has become more flavorful, and the meat is now more juicy and tender. The white sauce is on point, and my taste buds are unable to distinguish it from the original white sauce from New York. My only suggestion would be to make the red sauce a bit spicier, because I always find myself craving a little more heat as I think of the New York red sauce which has a major kick. I have tried several variations of the meat over rice here with several different types of protein, but my favorite is the lamb/beef gyro + chicken kebab over rice. I prefer the chicken kebab to the chopped chicken because the marinade makes it so much more flavorful and juicy. Other variations that are also really good include combo over rice, kofta over rice, and shawarma....I guess you really can't go wrong! read more

Chicken Shawarma was good, but I made a side order later for some Falafels and didn't receive it until 25 minutes later. I had to ask the expediter 3 times about when my order would be ready (he assured me it was almost done) and on the 4th time I suggested they must have lost track (which they did). I got it quickly after that, but I shouldn't have had to ask 4 times. Losing orders during a busy time is understandable but the expediter should be better trained to push orders, especially after the 1st or 2nd inquiry. read more

So delicious! I got the beef shwarma rice plate and it was such a great deal! Lots of beef and rice, and anice balance of salad (although more wouldn't hurt.) The red sauce is pretty spicy and the white sauce didn't seem to do anything for me. I also ordered the Dolma but I don't think it's worth it. 4 tiny ones for $3? That's kind of overpriced for something that's stuffed with mainly rice. Otherwise, I would definitely come back for the gyro or combo plate. read more

Also, because of the terrible business practices of In N Out booting so many cars they have someone posted outside to warn their customers not to park over there. Know that if you eat here, you will walk away with a ton of food! I had the lamb/chicken mix over rice and there is easily enough food there for two meals. The yogurt sauce is pretty damn yum, and as a person who enjoys spicy food--I appreciate the fact that they had a bunch of hot sauce to season. The rice is absolutely incredible...I don't know how they make it so light and flavorful. Bonus: I hear they are open late! Much better alternative to the standard Kirby Lane late night snacking. read more

Halal bros is good but it just doesn't compare to Halal guys in NY. The chicken over rice seems to be a bit lacking in flavor and isn't as rich or spicy. With that said, however, it's still probably the best you'll get in Austin. I thought their falafels were really good. When you buy it as a side, it comes with lettuce and hummus along with your white and red sauce. The hummus is delicious and will be something that I'll definitely get every time I visit. As for the store itself, there's very limited parking in the front, however, there's an empty Burger King next door with a ton of spaces. read more

Came here with some friends for late night and it was exactly what we needed. I tried the gyro over rice and it was delicious: it came with a small salad, gyro, rice, and a couple sauces. It's actually a pretty good amount of food for less than $10. My friends remarked that the shawarma was also pretty solid. I was pretty psyched about this place because of all the hype my friends gave it, so I decided to give it a try. I didn't know what to get but knew I wanted a wrap, so I decided to get the special they had of the day which was the lamb kabab. When I ordered, I asked the cashier what was inside the kabab since I don't really tomatoes and what not. She told me there was lettuce, onions, and tomatoes, so I asked her to only put the lettuce inside with my kabab since I don't like raw onions or tomatoes. My boyfriend got the beef shawarma, and we also ordered hummus, an extra pita bread, and fries with the sauces on the side. After I finished paying, I looked at my receipt and saw she charged me for the lamb kabab on rice. When I went back to the counter to tell her, she said she would just change it to the kabab. I'm not sure how much the price difference is, but I feel like $9 for a lamb kabab is p pricey. When I got my food, she forgot to give us the sauce on the side for the fries. Once I got home, I was pretty disappointed that the wraps weren't labeled. I basically opened it and hopped it was mine. Once I took the first bite of my lamb kabab, of course, there were onions, tomatoes, as well as cucumbers in my wrap. This would be absolutely horrific if I was actually allergic to any of those instead of just disliking it. Not only did the cashier get my order wrong and charge me for the lamb kebab over rice, she still got my order wrong and it had the onions, tomatoes, and cucumbers in there. As for the beef shawarma wrap, the meat was cold. It was so strange, but it was. It also didn't come with lettuce or anything. It was just the beef shawarma, tomatoes, and sauce. 2 stars. My boyfriend didn't even finish it because it was so below par (and he usually finishes everything including my food). The fries were okay. It wasn't crispy. It was p soft and p thick. The only thing I actually enjoyed was the hummus and pita bread. It had a nice flavor and creamy texture. Tbh, the lamb kebab wasn't too bad, but I won't come back again because my order was wrong, the beef shawarma was cold, and the cashier honestly didn't pay attention to anything I said or asked for. I was so happy to try out Halal Guys during my visit to Austin. It's basically like Chipotle but Mediterranean style. I'm not sure if I offended anyone for saying that, but almost the same concept. My boyfriend and I tried the gyro over rice and the chicken over rice. THE GYRO WAS SO GOOD! It was a little salty to my standard but it had so much more flavor than the chicken over rice. The lamb was chopped up and was over a bed of spiced Basmati rice with salad on the side and white and hot sauce drizzled over it. I wish I had more rice with the lamb because of how salty the lamb was. The chicken over rice was not as flavorful, but it was still good regardless!
