Twice I have ordered takeout online and shown up to find that the order was never even started

My friends wouldn't stop raving about how delicious Halal Guys was so I had to go try it for myself. It was pretty good, but its really not comparable to the Halal Guys in New York. The sauce was good and so was the lamb. I wish they put a little more lettuce in mine though, but that's just because I really like lettuce. It's pretty cheap and I think the meal is worth the price because they give you a pretty big portion (well... maybe the same size as a Chipolte bowl) read more

I got a falafel over rice here. I have to say, it was delicious. I have never had falafel over rice and I thought it was going to be just rice and falafel but they swooped me off my feet when they added a few difference sauces and veggies to it. It is a MUST go, when in Austin. Now, you cannot sit in and eat. The place is tiinnyyyy but you can get it to go! Also, I am not the type who cares if it is fried or not. I know some people do, so for those people, you don't have to avoid this place, but make sure what you order is not grilled on their skillet. They do use a lot of oil when they make it on their skillet. Besides that, their staff was really good and courteous. I am not sure about their meat related items, as I am a vegetarian. But my meat-eater friends tried and they loved it! I recommend any one to definitely try it! :) read more

If you've ever had The Halal Guys from NYC, which should be on EVERYONE'S food bucket list, Halal Bros is satisfactory and will somewhat satisfy your burning desires and cravings for the original. The food here at Halal Bros is still good however it is still edible. It's not the worst halal I've ever had. I got the gyro (lamb) over rice. I felt that the lamb pieces could have been chopped up slightly more. The portion is also very relatively small for the price being charged: $7.57 total after tax. (But then again, I'm still comparing it to Halal Guys NYC - $6 total for a giant circular tin full of awesomeness) Extremely limited parking outside. Meh. I ordered the chicken & falafel wrap with extra white and hot sauce. For an extra $2 I made it a combo with chips and a drink. The place was quite busy and so it took some time for the food to come out although not terribly long. I found the food to be uninspiring, but perhaps I should have ordered it on rice rather than in a wrap as everyone else seemed to be doing. Hot sauce wasn't hot. But after eating some of the halal food up in NYC, I felt that this place fell short. If you like this type of food, I'd stay go with Kebabalicious. Way better tasting food, and possibly bigger portions for a similar price point. P.S. the bathroom is atrocious and I felt like I'd smell like piss for the rest of the night. read more

Not a big fan of middle eastern food normally, but Halal Bros goes hard in the paint. Nicely priced, quick service, big flavors and good portions. Pretty ideal lunch spot. Only negatives would be lack of parking, along with them being very busy but only have a small restaurant. So it's gets pretty packed. So you stand awkwardly close to other patrons waiting for your order. The chicken and lamb over rice combo is the only dish I've tried. The crispy bits of lamb is the single best part of the me. Next time I may have to get just the lamb. The spicy sauce and the famous white sauce are absolute keys to this dish. Gives it a nice moisture and extra flavor. Quite possibly my favorite place to eat in ATX. i LOVE mediterranean food! I wish the rice was a bit less oily and the sauces spicier but no other complaints. There's too much hype surrounding this place. All of my friends were raving about how delicious Halal Guys was downtown, and I was pretty darn excited about Halal Bros... When I ordered the "lamb" and rice, I was sorely disappointed. It seemed as if Halal Bros just served me a deconstructed gyro with more white sauce... The rice was tasty, but I was particularly disappointed that the meat was pre-chopped, just sitting on the flat top, meat that was just then scooped on top of the rice. Lamb and rice is a misnomer for the dish...it should just be called a gyro meat on rice. The service was particularly slow too, considering someone just had to scoop up rice from a rice cooker, dump meat and lettuce on the rice, and cover in sauce. Maybe my experience was different because I went during opening weak. But, overall, I was pretty disappointed. read more

I was disappointed though, because they ran out of rice when I was here post 2am. Mad disappointed. But I sampled some of my friends combo (gyro/chicken) over rice with extra white miracle sauce! BOMB. Period. I got the wrap but you need to get the rice! Like others have said you should call ahead to order since parking is limited. That way you can take it and go. You can also eat there too since there are decent amount of indoor seating. I have also had the Halal Guys up in NYC and between the two I still like Halal Guys hands down. Beware: their white sauce is addictive (ask for extra because they're kind of stingy with it) Pros: Pretty cheap compared to other Halal places around Insanely yummy white sauce. When I heard Halal guys was pitching tent in the NW campus area of UT I was pretty excited. I'd heard so much from my friends who seemed addicted to their lamb over rice, and actually only just recently visited the food truck. I expected (correctly) an increase in price at the brick & mortar establishment compared to their food truck prices as location is everything and they now have to pay taxes on the building. The usual chicken, lamb, and combo over rice increased by $1 (originally $6,$6,$7) and now there's tax. However, their menu has also increased in size and variety, which will definitely appeal to a larger amount of people. But onto the food... Their lamb over rice is no joke. They chop up the lamb and lay it over the rice with a some shreds of lettuce and diced tomato. It's ridiculously rich and flavorful, drenched in white sauce with a line of spicy red sauce on the side, the only way to eat this properly is to mix it all up and dive right in. I basically inhaled everything inside the rectangular tin container the food came in. I suspect the chicken over rice and other combinations they do will yield a similar experience. As of now they're only open for their soft-opening, as they figure out the issues of transplanting their system they built in a food truck into an actual building, but I'm sure they'll work out the kinks soon. The two guys that ran the food truck were working at the brick & mortar location, but from what I heard they'll be hiring people to keep the food truck d-town going so don't worry too much about the Halal Guys food truck disappearing. Good quality food, and a great new location, I'm pretty sure they'll be swamped for the first month or so after they officially open, but I look forward to stopping by here over and over again. read more

I love this place, I come back whenever I can! The food is so incredible, and super authentic. I usually order the falafel over rice, and truthfully it's so good I've never been tempted to order anything else! The one drawback of this place is that it is small, and best for takeout. Sometimes their service is really slow though, so if you're taking out I recommend calling ahead and placing your order to save yourself some wait time. Also, their website says their closed on Sundays but they recently extended their hours and are actually open on Sundays too. read more

My best friend and I tried this place out and it was fantastic! The space of the store is kind of small so try to avoid the peak dinner/lunch hours. I got the chicken over rice with white and chili sauce. If you want more spice, I recommend asking for extra chili sauce because they only give you a little bit on one side of your container. I also got a side of loaded fries which had ketchup and white sauce on them. Everything was so great! I come here every time I'm in town. Considering i haven't been back to Austin in a while (~ 2 yrs), it was nice to see the expansion. I remember the good ol' days of that cramped little trailer of grabbing your food to go and racing home before it got cold. I got lamb over rice. The food itself is very good and the portion has def increased since the last time i was there. The lamb/gyro was seasoned well and the salad was a def must to help balance out everything. I almost never remember to ask for the red sauce on the side... its a bit too spicy for me (but i m a big wimp) so i always have to get extra white sauce (which there isnt an extra fee, AWESOME!!) Id prob eat here once a week if i lived in the area. If you ever had halal guys in NY, its comparable in my opinion! We got here and my friend ordered a vegan meal, and we were given WHITE SAUCE so we told the cooks and they said they would make a new one correctly. Twenty minutes later, STILL no replacement, my friend was foodless while the three of us all finished and still she hadn't gotten the correct meal yet. Not only that, my other friend took a bite from his fork, LITERALLY: a piece of one of the prongs broke and entered his mouth uninvited. Overall, rather disappointed. Halal Bros met all of the hype and more! I loved it so much I visited twice in one weekend. The first order was an online order that we had delivered. I got the chicken/gyro rice bowl combo. The rice bowl is huge and definitely a great bang for your buck. We ask ordered a lamb gyro, which was as delicious. Pro tip: if you're not a fan of hot sauce, let them know clearly to put it on the side because it was H-O-T (I clarify that I also am a wimp when it comes to hot sauce, though). We also ordered some hummus and it came with warm and flavorful pita bread. The second day we ordered the same thing, except I got the gyro rice bowl with No hot sauce this time. We picked up this order at the restaurant and the wait was maximum 15 minutes. It was Sunday lunch time but the staff was quick and attentive. The price, again, is such a great deal that it'll keep me coming back. The rice bowl, that comes with salad, is also delicious and flavorful. Honestly, you cannot go wrong with Halal Bros. This place is homey and delicious! The chicken and lamb over rice is to die for. Extra white sauce makes it that much better. You can't go wrong here. Friendly service, good quality food, reasonable price, and great location. The only bad thing I have to say about this place is the lack of parking (but that's just the nature of the area). There are just a few spots right out front and tow-away zones everywhere around it. Tip: just be careful where you park. read more

I think I'm leaning toward 3.5 stars, but here's my reasoning regardless: Placed a to-go order on a Friday night for my first experience with Halal Bros. ended up losing track of time and showing up what I thought was way late. Parking is extremely difficult--there are not many spots and definitely not street parking anywhere close. Ended up standing in a rather short line for a solid 10 minutes because there is just notttt enough help. By the time it was our turn, the lady who gave us our food suggested that we could actually skip the line next time since we ordered to-go. I thought that was nice. Anyway, the falafel was prettyyyyyy good. The texture left just a little something ot be desired. But the rice/lettuce combo made it a hefty portion for a small price, so that was nice. read more

They have a full menu of Mediterranean choices but it is their halal and fries that shine. Smothered in white tahini sauce and red harissa sauce; the red sauce isn't very spicy at all and a bit more sugary/ketchup-y. These make great eats especially after a night of drinking. Overall, this is a must visit whenever you're in the Austin area. Prices range from $8-$12 per menu item. Imagine Chipotle, but with the meats and flavors of the Middle East. Absolutely amazing for me, being raised in a household where Greek and Lebanese food was eaten frequently. I've ordered both the kofta over rice and chicken shawarma over rice in the past, and I found them both to be delicious and very authentic. They reminded me of the Middle Eastern food carts roaming the streets of NYC - and that is definitely a good thing. While it does get insanely crowded at peak hours, I've found the wait to be well worth it. This is a must-visit for me when I'm in the Austin area. read more
