Amazing bakery. We usually get a coconut ring from here and it never lasts more than a day. The black and white cookies are also very good. This last time I went I got a piece of the chocolate mousse tiramisu which was topped with a chocolate covered strawberry. It was amazing! Prices are reasonable and the quality is great. They have everything from cake to cookies to hot dog and hamburger buns. They have really good rye bread as well. read more

Ok was in the mood for a nice slice of butter cream cake so after reading all the reviews on this local bakery I decided to try it out . It was the worst butter cream cake of my life , I think the shoprite in warren who I thought was the worst in the area before , now this place takes that place . Taste was not very good not even sweet . The cake had to be stall and the butter cream was hard and chunky . The cake was dry and not moist . I paid 5.95 for this slice of garbage ! The place looked disorganized and after purchasing my items I look into the kitchen area looks like there hoarders. The people who wrote the reviews on this place are apparently special needs because this is the worst bakery I have ever been too. I moved to South Plainfield about four years ago and my wife and decided to give this place a shot. We ordered cookies and cannolis... they were both extremely stale,dry and flavorless. I could not believe the I paid for this stuff! Not to mention the weird licorice flavor that was added to the cannoli cream... Thinking this was fluke because the place is always packed, my wife decided to try again a few weeks later,sans cannolis, and the cookies were exactly the same stale door stoppers as several months earlier! Both experiences at this place we were met with rude employees who I am guessing are the family who owns the place. When my wife asked her a question about one of the items and how it's made the woman acted as if my wife had just called her a slur because her response was nasty AF! I have had friends and family come from out of town for parties and I always tell them,"if you bring something from that bakery by the Qik Chek, you will be asked to leave and take your baked goods with you!" Love this bakery! Have been coming for over 10 Years. Small family owned shop in the middle of a small town. You would walk in and find the prices a tad high but it is worth it. Everything is fresh, tasty and of high quality. The cheesecake is to die for, fluffy and not to sweet. Every year we come and get pumpkin pies for thanksgiving and never are disappointed. The fruit filled cake were ok. But the mini pastries and desserts were fabulous. Pie and cheesecake sizes are quite big. Bigger than a normal and good for even a group of 5-10. You walk into this place and you can smell bakery and feel overwhelmed by the great display and selection. Its a neighborhood joint that feels like it has a bit of history to it. As I look at around, people are coming in and out getting their favorites. As I am into pastry exploration, I decide to pick the following items, a slice of chocolate cake, a small strawberry shortcake, a cinnamon roll, and apple turnover. Generally speaking they all seem to hearty or thick in consistency in terms of texture and icing. chocolate cake: tastes like the cake you have at your neighbor's house with coffee. Icing is thick, cake part is medium moistness. strawberry shortcake: I love the fresh strawberries on top and in between layers, however cake texture and icing too thick and sweet IMHO. Cinnamon roll: Giant in size, but again kinda big on bread and would have liked more cinnamon in the swirl. Apple turnover: Big in size, ok in filling, but again the texture doesn't have the flakiness I look for in a pastry. In summary, not a bad place to visit and get the local feel, but let me know if my notes on the above items agree with your experience. read more

I'm a big fan of Haisch Bakery and the staff is always so helpful! I decided to stop in to get a birthday cake and was not disappointed! I decided to get a strawberry and banana tres leches cake. The manager was so nice when I was placing my order and asked if I wanted to get any lettering on it! When she brought the cake out it looked so good to eat. I couldn't help myself so I decided to eat a slice a day early. The cake itself was soft and sweet. It was nice and light with the perfect amount of sweetness to it. It wasn't too sweet like other tres leches cakes and wasn't too soggy either. The whipped cream was also light and rich and the sprinkling of cinnamon gave it a nice touch. The added strawberries and bananas gave it the perfect amount of sweetness as well. I would highly suggest getting any type of cake of baked good from this bakery in the future! read more

I stopped by on a rainy day to pick up some pastries for my in laws. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted with the small of baked bread (love it!) and staff greeting you hello. I walked out with rugelah, donuts, apple pockets, guava sticks, and pecan danishes. As usual...overboard! Lol! The staff are friendly and explained just about everything they had in their display case when I asked what's what. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was due to two reasons: 1) the owner (or maybe manager) was loudly scolding her staff with customers in the room which I thought wasn't appropriate because her voice overpowered orders being taken and 2) the staff of 2 may not have been enough with all of the customers waiting. Now the food --- the raspberry and apricot rugelah is delicious!! They're lighter than expected and the flavors are awesome. My husband loved the apple pocket because it wasn't overly sweet. Yay I'm a fan! This bakery serves fresh items. I have visited here twice, first time to try 2 pieces of sliced cake. This is for preparation to buy a whole cake for a co-workers birthday. The slices I tried were the classic vanilla cake with vanilla frosting and lemon custard coconut cake. Vanilla cake pretty tasty cake was moist enough and frosting not overly sweet. The lemon coconut not the best and not the worst either, too much lemon custard which was overbearing. The vanilla got my vote and swayed me to buy a whole cake on my next visit. I was sure which cake to get, my person favorite cake is strawberry short cake but tthis cake wasn't for me. I decided to venture out and purchase the Brown Derby cake for my adventurous co-worker. My BF who was with me was on the fence, but I had a good feeling about it. The brown derby had a chocolate and vanilla cake with banana, strawberries and peach cream filling. The outside frosting was vanilla top with cake crumbs. I had the bakery employee write a happy bday note (which rubbed off during transport, but all good) Brought the cake in to work all the coworkers including myself loved it!! I found this place by accident. I was on business in the neighborhood and stumbled upon this gem of a bakery. When I went inside, the visuals and the smells brought back so many pleasant childhood memories. I originally had some cheesecake after eating at the pizza place next door ( the cheesecake was out of this world). When I was going back home, I stopped by and purchased some donuts, fresh patries and some Italian bread. When I got home, everyone jumped right in the boxes. Lived in town for 14 years. Have been here a few times and each time the service was terrible! Rude Rude Rude. On my last visit we ordered 3 Sfogliatelle and the women said those are reserved. If they are reserved why were they out? I asked if they would be making more for the day and was willing to come back when they were available . She replied they will be made today so come back sometime later. I think the baked goods are nothing more than average and everything seems to just taste the same . On another occasion we ordered a small 8 inch strawberry shortcake for a birthday cake. Ridiculously overpriced with very little strawberry and the whipped cream tasted old. This bakery is the absolute best in the area! They came through for my daughter's birthday on Nov 22nd, the day before Thanksgiving. She had to have a Descendants cake. I said, a what? Mommy! I want a descendants cake! I said ok. I'll have to go into my book of spells with this one! (Pun intended for those who know the Disney descendants). I have not have been here for almost 10 years and wanted to atleast try it out. The whole bakery looked of the 80s, but I do see some charm in that. there was a nice selection of sweets and service was very quick and nice .some items are not made at the bakery ( I bought a spongebob cookie here that wasn't even made in the state ). I would ask before hand if they were made in house. I bought a regular chocolate cake and lobster tail. Maybe its just me , but I found everything to be very very sweet. It made me sick for the whole day. I can say that they are great for people with a sweet tooth. The spongebob cookie was very good . I just wish that they made this type of stuff in house. OK but far from the best. As some other reviewers have pointed out, this is an extremely sweet bakery. Some of their stuff would be great if they cut down on the sugar a little bit. The vanilla frosted donut I had would have been great if the frosting wasn't overly sweet. The vanilla buttercream cake was very good except for the white frosting on the outside. The vanilla buttercream filling on the inside was excellent. Good vanilla flavor and not too sweet. But the frosting they iced it with on the outside was completely different. Didn't have the good vanilla flavor and was incredibly sweet. Messed up what would have been a good piece of cake. The brownie was good except for the chocolate fudge frosting on top which was too sweet with little chocolate favor. I did think the miniature strawberry-banana shortcake was pretty good. In this case the whipped cream was not too sweet and I liked the big slices of strawberry and banana in the middle. The only problem was the cake was a little too heavy and soggy. For me there is often a little something off about each item. Their stuff is decent and better than desserts you'd get at a diner or chain restaurant, but I can't go higher than an OK rating. Not the quality of some of the top bakeries in NJ. They do have a great selection and enough good stuff that it's worth going. read more

This bakery is my must stop at place before going to any friends or family for dinner. I always pick up a pound or two of rugelach and I am always given compliments by those that try it. Simply divine and always a hit! I also use this bakery for birthday cakes. While cakes are a bit more personal, the birthday cakes I usually get chocolate custard/butter cream icing are crowd pleasers for both adults and kids. I love Haisch's. Let me tell you why - on my Mom's birthday this past year, all she wanted was a banana cream pie. I was not about to try my hand at making one, so off I went to 6 or 7 different bakeries to ask if they had one I could buy. Now, to be fair, I was there on the day that I needed the pie, so it's not that the other bakeries were lacking in some way, but Haisch's went so FAR above my expectations .... After 6 or 7 bakeries telling me that I would need to order one special, or no, they don't make that kind of pie at all, Haisch's was a refreshing change. I walked in, they were very friendly, and they told me that if I could wait 15 minutes, they would MAKE one for me in the back. If that wasn't enough, a small pie was pretty inexpensive (compared to other bakeries) and it was DELICIOUS! I've since been back there many times, and their breads are soft and delicious but with the right amount of crunch to their crust, their pastries are sweet and fresh ..... Trea leches cake which was bought for a going away at the office party. It wasn't the best tres leches I've had, certainly not fresh and the fruit inside wasn't fresh either.
