The worst blow dry I have ever experienced. I asked for a beachy wave curly blow dry, the technique was really bad using a brush & there was no curl!! When asked if there was some way to add a curl.... I was told it's an added $25 to the $40 charge. My hair is shoulder length. My hair looked like it was caught in the rain, frizzy and wavy. Make sure you communicate what you want at least three times because apparently once is not enough. I asked for short layers throughout my hair and the hairdresser gave me two small layers at the front and was rushing because she had an appointment after me. I used to like going here from 2007ish to 2013ish, I felt like I got good hair cuts, by good stylists at a very reasonable price. But later on things just went downhill for me and I would always leave feeling like "ok I need to find a new place or a new stylist here" and then I would keep coming back for years because I wouldn't do the homework in finding a new one, and I'm not picky about my hair at all, I just get trims and very easy basic highlights every so often. Low maintenance hair. low expectations. easy to please. If you are nice to me, I will go to you forever. Even if you give me bad haircuts sometimes! thats just how i am. i like sticking with things that are comfortable. If I'm spending a lot of money for several services (hi lite, cut, etc) it's weird when they are simultaneously working on other people at the same time and then do you super fast. The last time I was there my hairdresser literally did my highlights then passed me off to someone else, then came back and did my hair cut for five mins after someone else rinsed out my high lights, then told me his next customer was coming in and that an intern would be blow drying me, I was being shuffled thru so many people and ok.... But I thought that meant when my hair cut was done.... Nope. He left at that moment and an intern came over and I actually had to ask the intern if he was gonna finish my haircut? and he was unsympathetic and weird about it and was like "no I'm not allowed to cut hair." And I was like ok but my hair dresser left and I need my bangs cut as part of my haircut? And he said "maybe come back tomorrow" I had to ask three times for him to find me someone who could finish my cut. I am a very agreeable and get walked all over in situations like this because i don't like confrontation, but this was insane. I was getting a trim... not some fancy hair cut and he didn't finish it, I still had my bangs to be cut and he just left to do his other client. Alsoooo... I hate to mention this because I know people do things absent mindedly and not intentionally to be gross-- but if you drop foil on the ground that is now covered in the hair of the woman next to me who was getting a hair cut and the foil dropped on her hair pile on the ground -- DON'T THEN PICK UP THAT FOIL AND USE IT ON MY HEAD FOR HI LIGHTS! COME ON, PEOPLE! I actually had to ask him not to use it. and explain to him that it fell in a pile of hair that wasn't even my hair.... Which was embarassing for me to speak up like that. I wouldn't even want him to use it if it had just fallen onto the ground... but the fact that it was on the ground and in someone else's cut hair! Like WTF? Also you can only rush someone so many times because the "next client is early" before you start to take it personal that you are seen as not important and too agreeable to get a normal appointment where the stylist actually finishes your trim, treats you like a human, etc etc. Like the amount of times I was asked if i minded leaving with wet hair / without a blow dry bc the next client "came in early" was really somethin! Why are they more important than me? Are you going to discount my service then...? Of course not. Siiighhhh.... I really wish it was like how it was years ago when I would leave happy. I haven't gone back since my last visit and finally decided i cannot keep going here and that the service I receive is too ridiculous. Oh also pro tip... the upstairs is hot as HELL... So if you're getting hi lights and get itchy hot skin reactions to the dye like me, I would request downstairs if they let you. (I always would request down stairs and they would tell me no problem and when I would get there sometimes they would honor that, sometimes they would not.) I've been going to Hair for nearly a decade and always had great experiences. As a guy, my hair isn't that complicated and I've used several different stylists over the years and always been pleased. For the last few years I've been seeing Ashley and couldn't be happier. For years I dyed my hair, but at Ashley's suggestion last year, I let it go natural and have received more compliments than I would have ever imagined. Today I went for the"model haircut" which is a reduced price haircut and blow dry for 25$ given by a new student on Sundays. I was extremely nervous and Laurie at the reception desk put me at ease when I called. She assured me that Laura was a good stylist who listened to clients request. Although my cut took almost two hours I appreciated the attention and input by Ian and Cate. Cate was AMAZING! Cate is a master stylist and I truly appreciated her input with Laura. My haircut was good but I feel the texturing and soft layers could have been better. I wish Cate actually showed Laura what she was explaining. Laura will have a future and I was happy to help in her learning journey. Lovely girl... I will definetly be back for color with Cate(if affordable)or with another junior stylist. Greeted by an incredibly friendly and helpful host, the entire atmosphere of the salon is stunning. I had my hair cut by Kevin today - what can I say about how absolutely wonderful he is? Thank god I came here. I went to Urban hair in Fairfield which was such a huge mistake and they completely destroyed my hair. I went here about three weeks after and IVAN is god sent. He completely fixed my hair and made it look brand new. I look like a picture out of a magazine with the color fix that he did and everyone here was so helpful. I love Hair and I no longer will go anywhere else or see anyone else. I am so happy and cant believe I messed up by not going here to begin with Right away, Ivan from the consultation was happy to help me and was ready to take me on as a client. During my visit, he not only cured my hair from the awful color I had, but restored it back to its health. He was beyond friendly, great, and showed me what I can do at home in regards to styling. Every time I come to this salon it is in a pinch and I remember why. This is the worst blow out I have ever received. I asked for a simple blow out with a flip on the end. My hair is still wet after the blow dry and she did not even flip the bottom of my hair like I had asked. She also did not even ask where I part my hair, and my hair looked like I woke up from a nap. DO NOT get your color done here. I am not one to give bad reviews, ever - in fact, I don't think I ever have. Until this place I've never even sent a dissatisfied email. I made a yelp account just to leave this review because I wish someone had warned me. After reading so many great reviews, I booked an appointment for highlights here and was SO excited. However, virtually every aspect of the experience was extremely displeasing. I actually can not believe how highly it is rated based on my experience. I've never been more disappointed by a coloring. From the booking to the pricing to the services I received, this salon failed to deliver in any area. It seemed so nice when I first walked in, but everything went downhill from there. The cliffs notes: I asked for a master colorist when I booked because I have long thick curly hair which can be difficult for inexperienced stylists, and I expect a certain quality in my color, which I am happy to pay for. I clearly explained my hair to the receptionist upon making my appointment, and she seemed to understand. The stylist I was booked with was under qualified and overbooked. She was very sweet! But just not worth what I paid for her. She was working on another client at the same time as me (seriously? I've never seen that before and I found it appalling. How can you have a stylist coloring another clients hair while my hair is processing unattended?) My Color was applied poorly - there was still a clear line of dark roots, and even worse, another clear line of brassy color between my roots and my old color. No blending. It was Horrendous. I also had blotchy spots near my temples where bleach was sloppily over-applied. (Months later, I now have breakage in these spots due to the damage done by the over-bleaching) After my highlights, they didn't even tone my hair! (Once again, seriously? I've been to a lot of salons in the area and I have NEVER gotten highlights without an automatic toner. This was amateur work, even though I was paying for a "master stylist") My hair looked awful. 1/2"+ roots still visible, very brassy where it had been colored. I wrote the salon a few days later to express my dissatisfaction- very nicely, I might add! I've never written a dissatisfied email before! I always want to make the best of things but this whole experience was really upsetting. My hair looked worse when I left. They kindly offered me an adjustment, which I accepted. When I went back for the adjustment, the stylist was, once again, double booked - with another client getting an adjustment. Clearly this isn't out of the ordinary. (Lesson learned: ask for a different stylist) At my insistence, I got a toner applied after the color. I requested lavender / silver, as this is what I usually get to yield my desired cool icy blonde... They applied what I suspect was an ash blonde color, and I somehow left with my entire head darker than when I came. My ends were darker than my roots because of this toner!!! It took weeks to come out. (And, my color was still "peachy") To top it all off, I had to pay for a blow out after the adjustment - seriously??? I'm sorry but after you mess up a clients color, you should not make them pay for a blowout after their free correction! It sullied all the goodwill of offering the adjustment in the first place. It's not like I felt safe to leave with wet hair and hope for the best! To be fair, I should have cut my losses in the first appointment when the supposed master stylist I was paying for told me she didn't even really like doing hair. I also should have refused to pay for the second blowout, but apparently I'm too nice. It took me months to even write this review. In short - don't go here no matter what! Avoid at all costs! read more

I had a weird experience here. First the cut. My hair seems to be really hard to cut well - blonde and pretty straight, thin hair but tons of it. The cut looked great from the front, which he spent a good ten minutes touching up the ends, but the back was just like every other cut I've had. I think it takes time to get the layering thorough enough because there's so much hair? I wish one of these $100 haircut salons had people who knew the answer. Now the weird part. The guy kept brushing the ends of my hair over my boobs. Over, and over, and over. And at one point I asked about their makeup people's "rep", and he thought I said, "how's my rack". The salon felt super crowded and like they weren't too concerned if they had my business or not. If I'm going to pay over $100 just for a cut, I want to be pampered and relaxed. DO NOT GO HERE FOR A DIFFERENT CUT THAN YOUR PRESENT ONE. If you want to try a new haircut, this isn't the place. They're awesome with trims and maybe even layers (I can't say for sure if they're good or bad with layers because my hair change with layers to begin with), but I wanted something that's not your "standard cut." I had long hair that was also damaged and I knew exactly what i wanted and it was not unreasonable. I wanted a short cut above the shoulder length with a dramatic angle but not a bob. First, they didn't even understand the length I wanted (how), and about an hour passed by the time I realized that the stylist and I were not on the same page. I kept clarifying "dramatic angle" and "longer in front" and it somehow ended up being a standard bob. This is maybe an hour and 45 minutes in now. Overall, they already cut it shorter than what I wanted most of my hair to be and the only way to fix the style was obviously to cut more. Then an assistant stylist tells me that this is indeed what I want (it isn't) and I try to explain AGAIN. You get the picture. Another stylist (3rd one involved now) takes over and understands what I'm asking for and sort of fixes what's been done but the final product was VERY far off what I expected, and it took 2.5 hours and cost $110. I don't like the cut and I'm stuck with it for at least a month or two unless I decide to go much shorter just to have a cut I'm satisfied with. However, what upset me the most was the fact that I had been specific (with pictures) about the style I had in mind and they didn't have the decency to say "I'd love to take $110 from you, but we don't have experience doing the type of cut you want. This is clearly a big change so you should go somewhere that does this style more often." And I know exactly where I should have gone, too! Urban hair on Grasmere in Bridgeport is awesome. They did my hair for prom and their cuts have always looked like what I wanted. read more

I rarely post reviews, but I felt the need to review this place! Its just that AWESOME! I have long, layered hair and getting the right cut has become something like finding a needle in a haystack. I've found many stylists who can NOT deliver my request for shorter layers on top (for volume) while blending into longer layers without chopping the length or giving me the "mushroom head" effect. I came to a point where I didn't care about cost, I just wanted a stylist who could deliver what i wanted!!! After years of going to NYC for a $$$$$ haircut, I yearned to find someone locally. Not to mention, as a NEW Mom, going into the city isn't as feasible as it used to be! I thought I'd give Hair a whirl, after reading some of their Stylist Bios I thought they seemed to have quite a few talented stylists. I called on a Thursday to make my appt. Denise took my call and was super kind and attentive to what I had to say. I asked for a "Master Stylist", and she was able to get me in with someone on Sunday. I then asked if anything was available for Saturday, and she recommended Melissa, even though she was currently listed on the site as a "senior stylist". Of course, after so many horrible haircuts with "masters" I figured either way it was a leap of faith trying someone new. I was told she was talented and worked as a stylist for ESPN as well. Sounded good to me! I arrived at Hair and was promptly greeted. Everyone at the desk seemed nice, laid back yet professional. I didn't feel like anyone was "snobby" as mentioned by previous Yelp reviews I read. After a short wait, I was greeted by Melissa, who brought me back to chat about what i wanted and she seemed to know exactly what i was looking for! Although every stylist i've gone too has seemed to understand what i want, yet delivered something totally different. Not Melissa! When she was done, I was amazed....the cut was perfect! I rarely feel comfortable enough to rate something five stars but this experience was beyond what I expected. It's a VERY bustling hair salon! In a positive way. From the outside I was expecting to walk in to see maybe 10 or so stylists and a more vintagey, homey, setting. I was surprised at how updated and modern it was! And so many stylists! One thing I really appreciated was that when I called for an availability for Friday (which was today), the receptionist gave me a list of available stylists by "rank" and told me what the total for each person would be without having to ask. I'm a new mom, and my budget is tight lately. I have always felt awkward, or worse - cheap, when asking about pricing so sometimes I would avoid bringing it up all together. It was really nice to hear a business up front with amounts. I got my hair cut by Tiamara, she was wonderful. Very friendly, very efficient with time, and I drove away very satisfied! I'm extremely picky with who I let cut my hair. I get it done maybe once a year because I have such a hard time finding a good stylist. And I felt wonderful after she was done. Ill definitely be going back. Prices are extremely reasonable for the area, nice interior, friendly staff, great experience. Only downsides I can think of would be needing cash for tip (can't add it to your cc charge. But this is barely a downside IMO) and the parking lot is small and a little difficult to maneuver in when the shop is busy. read more

My friend and I made appointments here for conditioning treatments, haircuts, and blow outs. They told us to show up 15 minutes before the scheduled appointment times so they could begin the conditioning treatments. This was our first time coming here and we didn't know it was mostly street parking. We arrived 5 minutes before our appointment times instead of 15 and were told by the stylist (a junior stylist whose name I can't recall) that because we were 'so late' that one of us had to forgo either the conditioning treatment or the blowout because there simply was not enough time. I told her we would both be only getting the ends of our hair trimmed-no complicated cuts- so surely there would be enough time? She was stubborn and insisted so my poor friend opted for the conditioning treatment and haircut, foregoing the blow out. The cut itself was fine, nothing special as I only wanted the ends trimmed.. but I left with partially wet hair because they had screwed up and scheduled someone else during my appointment time!!! At the register they charged us for full services we didn't even receive (my friend had no blow out and I had partially wet, frizzing hair). You think they would accommodate first time customers..! I paid FULL PRICE (around 130) for our services that hadn't been delivered. To add insult to injury after I paid I then had to wait 10 minutes for my receipt (meanwhile my friends hair is dripping wet all over the salon) while the receptionist ignored me to check someone else out. We will not be back. The place is tiny and cramped and was overcrowded. You feel like cattle being rushed in and out. Awful experience. Even with the supposed 20% off I was told I'd receive in my email for being a first time customer (which I never did) it is not enough to convince me to come back. I have never been treated so poorly at a salon. We walked out feeling worse than when we walked in. read more

Wow, I am so glad I made the last minute decision to get my hair cut here! I am so picky when it comes to my hair (probably like most women!) and I usually make my way back to PA to get a cut form my hairdresser at home. It had been way too long since my last cut and my normal salon in PA had no appointments for my upcoming trip. I found Hair through Yelp seeing how many lovely reviews they receive. I went online to find a stylist and saw that Camille had an opening for the next day. The online appointment scheduler was wonderfully convenient and easy to use. I showed up to appointment on time and was started about 5 minutes later. Camille started with a consultation as I was a new client. She really listened to what I was interested in and she played with my hair to see if it was feasible. The cut is FLAWLESS. I am telling you, amazing. Every time I go to do my hair I am so excited to see how nice it will turn out due to her perfect deep layers and shape. Love! The only reason this review is not 5 stars is because of the women who washed my hair. She was not pleasant, I tried to make small talk and she made it clear she was not interested. She was aggressive and rushed through my hair wash and spilled water down my shirt due to her rushing. I usually tip my hair washer but not in this case. I definitely recommend this salon and I am so glad to have a salon to go to near my home!! read more

I am still very appreciative of the recommendation of a friend to check out Hair and I'd like to think I've returned the favor tenfold by recommending it regularly to others! Call me vain (or OCD....sigh), but there's pretty strong link between my happiness and every perfectly shiny and highlighted strand of my hair falling into place every day. Even my ponytails get undivided attention! So, needless to say, I take my color and cuts very seriously. But I'm no snob, so this low-key little place tucked into a house without the flash or robotic professionalism of some other salons was right up my alley from the start. The staff is friendly and the stylists are great. Yes, some days are busy and you'll wait a few minutes extra - but I take that as a good sign! With so many choices in FC, maintaining a successful and progressive salon for 40+ years is pretty impressive. And they carry the products I like. Nothing better than walking out with fresh highlights, shiny bangs AND a new bottle of shampoo! I'd tell you who my stylist is, but it's hard enough to book an appointment with her as is. I have come here a few times now, including for my wedding hairstyle (a blowout, so I can't speak to the quality of updos), and I have never been happier with a salon! The space itself is pretty and clean and well-lit. Someone is almost constantly sweeping the floor or tidying up. When you enter, you're given a smock and wait for your (included) shampoo, which is of good quality and feels amazing. Then you work with the person who will be doing your hair and come up with a plan and get down to business! The haircuts I've received there have all been very flattering and take my needs (both based on the physical aspects of my hair and my lifestyle) into account, and they've been completed quickly and professionally. I always feel so pretty when I leave. I see Cathi, and I absolutely love her work and appreciate her personality - she's such a pleasure! Everyone else is also extremely friendly and welcoming, as well. I've never understood having a specific stylist before, but now I get it! The whole experience feels very expensive, but really, everything is very reasonably priced for the quality of experience. A haircut, including shampoo and blow dry, is about $35-$55 depending on the level of stylist. To compare, a similar service at Supercuts is about $30, and the quality at Hair is far superior to that at Supercuts. I've found my salon, and I've found my stylist! I really think everyone should give this place a try - it's so worth it! read more

I love Hair! From booking appointments to the final product, I have always had an excellent experience. I recently moved to Stamford and could not believe the prices for hair cuts (I'm from Hawaii, and man the prices do not even compare here they are so high). My coworker recommended Lindsay and the prices were great so I drove up to Fairfield. All the booking for appointments can be done online - it's so easy and spares me a phone call. I love the clean modern feel of the salon. When you show up you get a nice shampoo with good products. Lindsay always does a fantastic job and gave me exactly what I ask for. I have never experienced worse customer service at the front desk than I did at Hair. I walked it, they gave me the robe. No eye contact, did not show where the coat closet was, where to change or hang the coat, zero eye contact. Ladies at the front desk were chatting with each other and totally avoided contact with the customers. I have never seen anything like this at the salon. Hair stylist was very pleasant and nice, but lacked technique. Got less than average haircut. I feel that my hair was literally butchered. I am still finding sticking hair pieces that need to be cut. I'm very impressed with Hair. One of my coworkers went there and she had such a great experience that she's recruited half the department. They're big enough that there are different staff members that greet you, wash your hair, cut and style you--which means a lot more handoffs than at smaller salons. Nonetheless, they pull it off well. In fact, they're a model of customer service. I couldn't help but notice their use of the 10/5 rule and how they consistently "manage up." I have to say that at the end of the day I was very happy with my cut and color. Add to that the fact that they're a little less expensive than other salons in the area and I'm definitely a regular from now on. I've been getting my hair cut here for over 2 years now and I've been satisfied every time. I've tried Aileen, Marcia and most recently Camille. I had 1 other girl cut my hair but cannot remember her name. The reason I've had to switch is due to availability - and I've been so happy each time I try someone new. I have long, black, straight hair that is pretty simple to cut (some long layers and angling in the front) but it's the service that I appreciate. Each girl has made sure that I was 100% happy with how the cut turned out. On my last visit with Camille, I mentioned it was my birthday and I wanted some "curl" to the ends of my hair when she blow dried. Since my hair doesn't hold curls too well, she whipped out a curling iron instead and at no extra charge (which I am assuming they usually would charge for). It came out perfect - but didn't hold up when I left. Definitely just my hair type though - not a fault of hers. It is ALWAYS packed whenever I go so make sure to book an appointment. Parking is an issue. They only have a tiny lot. I've had to park on the street every time but it's not terrible. I don't color my hair but I have 2 friends who do and say that they've been very happy with the results at Hair. Prices can be a bit on the high side but to me, it's worth every penny knowing that I'm in good hands with any of the stylists. read more
