If it wasn't for Terryann Cervone, the best hairdresser ever, I never would have found this low key, absolutely gorgeous Ryan John Salon located right in downtown Fairfield. Two years ago I was desperate for a new stylist and was so happy to find Terryann. She was originally at Salon V. I wasn't fond of the atmosphere but she was an amazing stylist. I've been through chemo, hair loss, anxiety and Terryann made me feel good, confident, and "pretty". She taught me about my hair type, offered suggestions and WHY she had reservations or positives, she never talked me into anything, completely discussed her thoughts before cutting and I've never been happier - every time I leave her chair! Terry is absolutely amazing! Extremely talented and on trend. She transformed my hair into the most darling cut ever and I left there feeling so happy and confident, I couldn't wait to show off my new doo! They have accommodated my work schedule and rearranged appointments for me when that was necessary. In terms of the final product, it is without a doubt the best haircut I have ever had. I could give this salon a 5 star review because the staff was very warm and friendly and they offered beverages to both my son and I and even lollypops and ice pops at the end, most importantly the haircut my son got was great. The reason why I am rating this salon 3 stars is because while my son was getting his haircut, another client came in and hovered all over my son chit chatting with the hairdresser (the owner) for nearly the entire haircut. I truly wasn't expecting this lack of etiquete at a nice salon. Its something that happens at a barber shop (maybe). it was not the experience that I was expecting since I was trying this salon for the first time. I hate giving negative reviews to small business. But I rely on yelp reviews (as I did with this salon selection) and it's up to me to save the next guy in my situation so he doesn't end up butchered like I did. The whole time I could tell this lady had no clue what she was doing but I figured stellar reviews don't come from nothing so I will let her do her thing and maybe final outcome will be ok. Well it wasn't ok - she butchered my hair and my beard. Hair is unacceptable but beard is sacred, not something you can just destroy because you wanna learn how to cut them. If you don't know how to cut beard just own up to it and say one of my colleagues will have to do this for you. No harm no foul. Instead now I have lob sided mustache but it goes well will ben stiller tropic Thunder haircut. My wife came home from work looks at me without saying a word and just start laughing. Now I have to work from home until I can find a professional to correct what was done. Oh extra star for nice setup and nice snack bar. read more

Jeanine understood my hair which has complicated coloring(a lot of red naturally in it that can go easily orange if not doing properly). I would never normally write a negative review - even when I've had bad experiences elsewhere, I usually just forget them, but this salon essentially STOLE money from me, so there is no way I won't do my best to warn future patrons. I received a gift certificate to this salon, for a manicure and a haircut, for some charity work I did back in 2016. When I initially called, I spoke with the salon manager, and I asked if I could use the value of that gift certificate towards hair coloring. She told me over the phone that yes, that was fine - that the value would then be $95, and color services started at $65. I even stopped in later that day for a quick consult with the stylist who did my hair - she was aware I had the gift card, and we spoke quickly about what I was looking for. No problem. When I arrived for my appointment, in discussing what we would do that day, I showed her a picture of what I, as someone who is NOT a stylist, and has no idea what goes into achieving a specific look, thought was fairly simple. I had figured the cost would be more than the $65 the salon manager had quoted me on the phone, which is why, when the stylist asked if I was okay with an extra $30 treatment, I said pretty much verbatim, "I'm not looking to spend much more than the $95 gift certificate, but yes, a $30 treatment is okay". By telling her I only wanted to spend $30 extra, I was telling her EXACTLY how much I expected/wanted to spend. I had even told her I would blow dry my hair myself instead of paying extra for her to do it - a fair indicator that I am not looking to spend any extra money. I didn't ask how much anything was, because I had fulfilled my end of the verbal agreement by telling her the EXACT AMOUNT I wanted to spend that day. She then proceeded, without communicating to me what she was doing or how much it would cost, a series of hair colors and treatments that vastly exceeded the amount I had explicitly told her at the beginning of the appointment. When it was over, I was left with hair that was fine - not great, not awful, but pretty much the same as it had been before, with slightly darker roots. However, this is irrelevant, because when I approached the front desk to pay my extra $30, I was told the final bill was $315! You can imagine my shock - again, I had expressed to my stylist exactly how much I was looking to spend, and even if it had been slightly over that, I think I have a fair right to assume it wouldn't have been literally 150% more! ESPECIALLY WITHOUT BEING TOLD. Of course I protested this with the lady at the front desk, who was pretty rude about it and basically told me I had no other recourse than to speak with the owner. So I paid, because what else was I going to do? In fact, I had to split the charge on two different cards because, as a pregnant lady who just recently bought her first home, I of course did not have the money for this (unlike probably most of the clientele who frequent this salon, which I'm sure is part of the issue). The next day I called the owner, Ryan, and I explained the situation - and I asked for a refund because the only charge I had agreed to was the extra $30. He was vaguely understanding and basically told me he "would make this right", but just needed to speak to the stylist first, and would call me back by the end of the day at 5PM. Well, guess what? He definitely did NOT make it right, nor did he call me back by the end of the day - in fact, when I called back at 4:45, I was told he had LEFT for the day, and then when I called back the next time he was in (which was a full three days later), he again REFUSED to speak with me. Instead, he had the manager speak to me through him, and I was basically told that it was MY responsibility as the customer to have asked how much things are. Normally I would agree with this, BUT I LITERALLY TOLD THEM EXACTLY HOW MUCH I WANTED TO SPEND. I fulfilled my part of the verbal agreement, and they violated theirs. I'm not sure if this was a true misunderstanding, or if this is their way of manipulating money out of their wealthy clients who don't care how much things cost, but it was a CLEAR violation of my trust as a customer. I am pursuing this with my bank, but they essentially stole $190 from me. All I can say is, unless you are a rich Fairfield lady who can drop an absolutely absurd amount of money on a completely mediocre hair service, just don't go here - it's not worth getting potentially taken advantage of OR having to endure such a horrible customer service environment. read more

If you are a woman looking for a modern fresh or stylish haircut PLEASE do not go to this salon. I came out with a Monica from Friends (circa late 90's haircut, you know the one I mean!!). Luckily the one saving grace was the owner Ryan telling me to go home, and try to style it myself and he was sure all would be fine. At least I can just about tie it into a ponytail. I had a fantastic experience with this salon. I was a first time client and was nervous because I have high standards. Brandon was amazing and looked at the picture I brought. His recommendation was that my face was very small so we did an asymmetrical cut and layers in the back of my head. My hair was long and this cut worked out perfectly for me. I am going to schedule an appointment for the new blonde service. I have had this before. They were very reasonable in cost. I have spent more than $200 for similar services. Tiffany and Krista are so great- they look at all your annoying celebrity photos of who you want to look like, and do an excellent job. Absolutely worst haircut I have ever received. I asked for an extremely simple cut, which wasn't done at all. When I left my hair looked like it hadn't been cut and the ends were still dead. The only thing that looked cut were my side bangs, which were way shorter than I asked for. Not only was the cut TERRIBLE, it was also incredibly expensive. I could have gotten a cut for a quarter of the price somewhere else and it would have undoubtedly looked a million times better. The staff was nice, but was apparently never trained to cut hair. I will never go back here again and suggest that no one else does either. read more
