I HIGHLY recommended this salon if you are of multi-ethnic background and if you want/need PROFESSIONAL guidance on getting the feel for your hair that you desire most. I originally discovered Terrance here on this wonderful Yelp app. One look at his pictures and I knew I wanted him to work his magic on me (Lord knows I needed it) Location: It's conveniently located on Broadway right between a bunch of shops and restaurants in an adorable second floor walk-up with a modern, chic...yet very relaxed feel. Street Parking was available 9am-6pm; 2hrs. Hair dresser: Terrance himself was an absolute delight. Very friendly, wonderful smile, highly informative when it came to my 100+ questions. I appreciate most that he took the time to listen to me explain my frustrations with my hair and did his best to come up with a solution to make my life easier and my hair a lot healthier. I came in with a head full of split ends, 1-2 inch of roots and all over damage from swimming in the ocean/pools and just poor care from myself (shame!) Price: The real meat and potatoes. I COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MORE PLEASED WITH THE PRICE TAG. For a: Consultation, wash, color correction, cut, flat iron and style I paid $150. Yes you read that right. Now, while others estimates may slight differ (everyone's hair is different!) you gotta admit that's really good. I struggled trying to find a salon that was everything I was looking for in one place with a hair dresser that would make me feel comfortable and I can't help but gush over this salon! Ok, well technically yes it is mine and yes I grew it with the help of needle and thread. I have had my extensions done by others, but I love the way Terrance does it Best! It last way longer and look very natural. And that's allot harder to do because I have thick hair, a big head and I want to add 12 oz of hair to my head. LOL Terrance is great at what it do. I call him my hair magician. He listens and do exactly what you want. I have had days where I am very specific and days where I leave it all up to him. Either way it goes, I always leave happy.

Determined to find someone great near home (my gal is 25 miles away), I did my research: friends, Yelp, Google, Facebook searches, etc. Found great reviews all around for My Stylist Stephen. On the Vagaro booking tool, a parent even wrote how his 3 sons don't want to get haircuts by anyone else. We've been to Stephen 3 times now. From the first visit, we all hit it off with Stephen. My 14 year old isn't the most talkative person, but he felt very comfortable talking with Stephen about what he wanted/didn't want. Happy customers! Stephen is wonderful and his salon suite is so nice--stylish, and private. If I haven't been seeing my stylist for 20+ years (yep, I'm loyal), I'd be booking with Stephen, too. Update, Aug. 2016: My teens have had several haircuts from Stephen now. At yesterday's appointment, when my 14 year old turned around in the hair, I was floored. Stephen is the best!

PRE-APPOINTMENT…read more Joyce, the owner, asked for a reference photo before my appointment. After seeing both my inspiration photo and my current hair, she responded, "That's totally possible" and said the look would suit me well. I wanted a slightly richer strawberry blonde than my natural strawberry blonde. Before the service, I explained that my hair is extremely porous and that red tones have historically not faded from my hair. DURING During processing, I became concerned because my roots were developing a very bright, "hot" orange color. I mentioned it, but was told not to worry and to trust the process. While blow-drying, Joyce stopped and acknowledged there was a problem. She admitted she should have listened more carefully about my hair's porosity, which I appreciated. She asked me to return the next day so she could research the issue, explaining it was a new color line and that the correction attempts were not working. PROBLEM Unfortunately, even after two appointments, the color could not be corrected and there was nothing further she could do. Anything would damage it even more. And the color couldn't be guaranteed with bleach; it would be unpredictable. My roots are now unnaturally reddish burgundy, while the mid-lengths and ends are uneven shades of auburn and blonde. The color is patchy, the roots remain visibly mismatched, and the final result looks nothing like the reference photo I provided. At this point, correcting the color would likely require bleaching to lift the artificial pigment. Given my hair's porosity, that would cause additional damage and significantly increase the risk of breakage. After the unsuccessful correction attempts, I respectfully requested a refund. It was declined. I would not recommend this salon for color services, particularly copper or red shades. The attached photo shows the inspiration photo on the left and my final result on the right. FYI: The business also operates under the name Heroes & Legends Barbershop.
