While initially a good experience things derailed quickly. After pointing out some damage done to…read moremy driveway and sheetrock after our ductwork was replaced, the company's employees got very defensive very quickly. I was not pointing fingers, but simply trying to determine what contractors were at fault. Gochnauer's employee Brian S. sent me the following e-mail verbatim: "I cannot believe the gall you have to even think this, let alone say this, Judd. We showed you proof the driveway was not us. And I paid for the ceiling we also did not do with proof. I let that ceiling go because it was already done. I am paying for that, personally, not the company or my guys because they didn't do it. Do not email me again." Really? This is how they treat their customers who just gave them two jobs and paid close to $10K. I will not do business again with such a thoughtless company nor should you. I called to speak to the owner today but I got a call back from the GM who never once provided an apology. Bush league company! Maybe I will dispute the last job they did since now I was told to not e-mail them again. Here is another quote from Brian S. regarding the sheetrock: "THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION. IF YOU BELIEVE THE SHEETROCK WAS TRULY DAMAGED ON SATURDAY, SOUNDS LIKE WE DID IT SINCE WE WERE THE ONLY PEOPLE THERE THAT DAY. I CAN HAVE SOMEONE TAKE CARE OF THE SHEETROCK IF YOU AGREE." - So he owns up to doing it in this quote but then says he didn't do it later. As for the driveway, it was recently poured and damaged during the install. It was done by either the HVAC company, spray foam company or ductwork install crew. Nobody will own up to it. Contractors around Bluffton have a bad reputation for a reason. Be careful who you choose.

A couple of years ago our A/C unit stopped working on a 96 degree day. Lang had someone here and they were able to get us up and running within a few hours. We knew our unit was near the end of it's life (and so did Lang) but they never pressured us to buy a new unit. When we decided the time was right to replace our unit we comparison shopped and chose Lang. The people who come for service calls are completely professional, friendly and helpful.

We had a series of problems with switches to control the zones (with temperate setting 4 X daily) which never paired well with our units. We eventually had to have a different more old-fashioned switch installed so that the units would operate properly and not keep blowing said switches. I have gone to a manual control of temperature not using the programmable wall-mounted controllers but manually setting the temperature for each zone and varying the temperatures very little on the A/C side. Fingers crossed. Heat exchange has been reasonably satisfactory, but I'm not one who gets cold. We have a third system for a wine room that has been a problem. First - I cannot say that the people at Dean who come out are anything but professional and pleasant. They generally get the job done. Home HVAC - fine but not stellar. Communicating with the home base problematic and time consuming, addressed below. The fund of knowledge for the wine system has been worrisome and I had to replace my first unit with a new one which occurred at five years time. One year out on the new unit I asked for a technician to come out to troubleshoot - nothing really found wrong, but function diminished after coolant top-off and getting the same technician was A) Impossible and B) Communications with Dean being old-school - no email/phone extension/voicemail - you wait for a callback - THAT is indeterminate and frustrating. Their efficiency is better for them than for me in my experience, there's a lot of waiting. I hesitate to recommend them for this specialty niche at this time, I may change my opinion in the next week depending on outcome of this current all, but ... overall, I find communication is very challenging, especially if a follow-up is necessary.

They answered all of my questions! And despite my large variety of HVAC problems, they solve every single one with speed and accuracy. I don't think they are the cheapest company, but you get what you pay for and lemme tell you, HVAC is important so expense is understandable! Their cost was much lower than the competitors. I was told by another company that I needed much more extensive work than I actually did. Howell-Chase was honest and had integrity. I will always call them for my AC and heating needs from now on. I absolutely love my UV sterilization that was installed . My immune system is low and this has absolutely helped with dust and mold.
