So it seems they're trying to gentrify Newark, and plopping luxury apartments with an elevator directly to Whole Foods is certainly a way to do it! I'm not going to touch the political issues here, this review is solely about the apartment complex, with as few strings attached as I can manage.
A former neighbor of mine got priced out of the city, and on a whim viewed an apartment here, never thinking she would take it. One year later, here I am visiting her in her new digs. The walk from the PATH is not the greatest, the neighborhood isn't as safe as it could be, but it's also not that intimidating either. The traffic gets dicey, keep your eyes peeled for vehicles on the wide boulevards whether you have the light or not. In general, it's a safer area than some of those surrounding it (if you enjoy scenic bike rides, it's something to be mindful of).
I've never been inside a luxury condo in Manhattan, or if I have been I was too drunk to recall its grandeur, but I imagine it's similar to this. It's a brand new building, with new everything. The halls, even the trash room, smells fresh and new. The building leads directly into a mall, some apartments actually have massive terraces that overlook the glass enclosure over the center of the mall. It leads to a school, or something. And restaurants. In addition to the terraces, they have shared outdoor spaces, what amounts to a rec room with a pool table, and a gym. The gym has multiple TV's, so you can stream a video, or play music channels. The complex runs multiple activities and events throughout the month like yoga.
And the apartments themselves are gorgeous. 17ft ceilings, spacious living room and bedroom, excellent water pressure, walk in closet, did I mention the oversized terrace? Dishwasher, washer, and dryer all in the unit. My friends 1 bedroom unit with a terrace runs her $2300/month, and there's space to make a large alcove into a guest room if need be. She says maintenance is always quick to answer her calls if she experiences any issues. She's really, really happy here, but does say it's hard to meet people at the moment. I'm sure that will change as the neighborhood does.
If you're looking to jump the NYC ship to make those amenities happen, this is definitely an option. read more
