Cool place near the morongo casino. I've never been here before nor was i planning on dropping in but we did. This was a fun and interesting place to have a few monutes of detour action. Loved their selection of freebies to tryout; i definitely had more than my fair share of sour gummy bears i needed to buy a 12oz pack of them. Went to the back and found a drink with CBD in it with the label "Siesta" on it. Hopefully it'll help me sleep tonight. I also tried one of their popular shakes. I had a regular date milkshake with a mix in of coffee and it was good. A lot of the things here can be pricey BUT a lot of the things here are not commonly found at your local market so im willing to shell out a few extra bucks to take some memorabilia home and in my belly. read more

Review for the Cafe. Just don't. We've driven by a few times and mention every time that we wanted to check out Hadley's. Since it was lunch, we thought we'd try the cafe. Maybe the cold sandwiches are ok, but the hot food was basically reheated store bought flavorless junk. My toddler who basically eats everything avoided his chicken nuggets and tater tots like the plague and my husband referred to it as the worst meals my son has ever eaten since he only ate some chips, pickle, and apple juice (no other healthier options for drinks for the kids meal other than juice). They put Mayo on their paninis, which by fault of my own, I didn't see on the menu so it was an immediate turn off. My husband's burger was a from frozen patty that had an odd taste. He was also the only one that tried the chicken nuggets and said it was some of the worst chicken he's ever had and couldn't get the bad taste out of his mouth. Hadley's apparently has a new building, which is spacious and well laid-out. I'd never been to the old Hadley's, but was expecting something more along the lines of the old Casa De Fruita near Route 152 in NorCal, (which also has a new building). Because the building is so new, this place doesn't have that farm-stand feeling, but it's a great little upscale grocery store with pre-packaged dried fruits, nuts, and of course, the famous date shake. We didn't try date shakes, but we did get lots of dried fruit, including pineapple, dates, mango, apricots, and chocolate-covered cherries. All were slightly pricey, but excellent. I got the feeling that lots of folks from LA come here to hang out. We felt even more touristy than usual because of all the SoCal folks stopping by. That being said, the checkout folks made us feel welcome. Parking in a proprietary lot, clean bathrooms, and dried fruit samples made this place a winner. read more

This is just a review of the date shake. I have been coming to Hadley's for at least a dozen years- when they were at their former location. I always got the date shake and introduced many people to this creamy concoction. What has happened to the shake in the past year? It is more of a vanilla shake than date shake. I used to be able to slurp this up without having to stop and take out bits of dates out of my mouth to spit out. The bits used to be soft and would go down smoothly, full of a date flavor that was a special treat. Now I have to spit out hard bits in a shake that hardly had any date flavor. They must have changed either their recipe or gone with other ingredients. Hadley's Fruit Orchards has been around for years. I recall going there with my parents many moons ago. It is a great place to stop and have lunch or just shop. Hadley's has been remolded, parking is free. They have a gift shop, toys for the kids and they are known for their Date Shake. Personally, I don't like the Date Shakes, but I am not a fan of dates. They have pretty good sandwiches and other things to drink. Take a break from the road and have fun. read more

It's a convenience store! A small grill with two soft-serve machines is the food option. EXCEPT. No grill when I went. Ordered a date shake and she went over to the soft serve machine and.....well, not the shake you would think. The shake machine is siting there next to the soft serve machines as maybe a facade, decoy. No the same as they are at other places where they use ice cream and dates. Not good. This is my favorite place to stop in the Palm Springs corridor between Arizona and California. It's near the popular outlets, but not in the same parking lot, so it's easy to get in and out of. In addition to specialty groceries such as dried fruits, etc., they have a small cafe that offers tasty lunch options that are a great alternative to all the fast food we otherwise might eat on the road. We've been stopping by Hadley for years, it was a family tradition to take a break from the road on the way back from Palm Springs, get a date shake, buy some goodies to take home. On our last visit to Palm Springs we stopped by to see that the store moved near by, which was hard to get to, almost got in an accident. The new location is near by, is new, shiny, looks like a supermarket. It's smaller, has less cool merchandise, less samples, it's cold inside, feel like I'm shopping in Whole Foods. Yes, restrooms are cleaner, but I never had issues with the ones from the previous location. This place isn't Hadley's anymore, it's very generic, could be anything inside. Gone are the headshots from above the counter you used to order, gone are cool, local desserts, I noticed mainly pre-packaged baked goods, made elsewhere, not in the area. Hadley's was an institution, cool, fun to explore, it made you feel like you were a kid again on a road trip. I used to spend at least an hour in there. This time, we just got the date shakes (which were good) and that was about it, left empty handed. I read articles about the selling off the store from the original owners to Morongo ones who bought and moved the store. And frankly, screwed it up. It's not what it used to be. I'll have to find another date shake place in Palm Springs area, I can't go back to this Hadley's. And surely don't want to get killed for a date shake driving about in that crazy roundabout. read more

Anybody going to and from Palm Springs knows of Hadley it's been there for probably 50 years maybe more they used to have tons of neat samples all over the store of various bbq or sour cream and onion pistachios or pine nuts. Hadley is known for the date shake and I ain't leaving Palm Springs without having one of those!! Hadley is in a new building and looks like a whole foods now. Hadley's died with their old building. Since I was 3 and for 30 years, my family would travel to LA via I-10 1-3 times a year. It was always customary to stop at Hadley's and get a date shake. Now that Hadley's was sold to an offshore corporation and left their old building, they are little more than a whole foods rip off. I hated walking in and thinking I was in a Whole Foods rather than a favorite child hood stop. The date shakes are no longer ice cream with dates blended together, but now prepackaged and artificially flavored, likely with all the preservatives that come with it. I Love Date Shakes! We would stop by Hadleys regularly as a kid. It seems like things have not changed too much. There is a small grocery store with various goods and a large bathroom which seems to be the reason most people stop by. Easy on and off freeway access makes this a prime rest stop area. ~Date Shake-3 Stars There are several places in palm springs where you can get a great date shake. I happen to love dates and shakes. They use a soft serve ice cream here and the dates flavor is not very strong. I think the best date shakes are made with a quality vanilla ice cream, whole milk, raw egg, and half of a very ripe banana. The shake here was just AOK for me. Located a few week from the ever-lengthening Desert Hills/Cabazon Outlet malls, Hadley's "used" to be housed in this funky shack/house/cabin where the old grandma doled out mini date shake samples and everybody had lunch on the way to, or from, Palm Springs. Now, what with the outlet malls, Morongo, and all, Hadley's is in a brand new building and looks just like a Sprouts. Grandma is gone. In her place is a super long line for shakes that come out of a modern looking yogurt machine like the one at Morongo's all-you-can-eat buffet (which isn't bad, by the way, join their Morongo loyalty casino club for $5 off the buffet price). The experience is also very Sprouts. Tons of expensive nuts and seeds and dried fruits all packaged up ... no deals here ... Sriracha-flavored peas anyone? $40 in snacks later, we were back in the car and off to Morongo - just 200 feet to the south. The Hadley chow line was so long we gave up, so I can't evaluate the sandwiches and burgers. If you could use that thing from the Jim Carrey movie that erases memories and wipe out the old Hadley's, it might not be so bad. But for those who remember the "before," the 'after" is a bit of a dud. read more

I went here before years ago after my Dessert Hill outlet shopping spree. This place impressed me with the selections but the price was kinda $$$. For some reason it seemed like it's more expensive than other places. I went back again yesterday and tried its date shake and rugulach. Rugulach came in different flavors: apricot currant, pineapple, date, chocolate, and cinnamon walnut. It was my first time trying rugulach and I tried both chocolate and date. The chocolate one was meh but date rugulach was good. I liked how they combined buttery flaky pastry with sweet date filling. It was cheap for $.89 each but it was also very small. The cafe @ this place is famous for its date shake. In fact I saw so many date products in this market too. Ordered my small date shake and it was pretty good. I am not a fan of date because date is usually too sweet for me and I don't like its texture. I did like this shake though. It's hard for me to describe the taste because I don't consume dates too often. The best description for me is like drinking ogura (red bean) ice cream. Hadley is the ideal pitstop for people driving in between LA and the Palm Springs/Indio area. We stopped for one thing only: the date shakes. My date said that he had many fond memories of going to Hadley's on the way to his grandma's house as a child. He liked the old-fashioned look of the old store better because it had more "personality," and it's true that the remodel reminds me more of a Whole Foods than anything. But like Whole Foods, it is very clean and well organized. Shakes were decently priced at around $3 for a small. I got the Date Banana, which was considerably sweeter than the Date. I also could not really distinguish a strong date taste, but hey, a shake is a shake. All in all it tasted average to me. The goods they sold seemed kind of overpriced, but I think if you are craving something sweet after a long drive a date shake is just the ticket. read more

There's 2 reasons to come here. 1) Date w/Banana Shake, 2) free unattended and unsupervised samples. Not that the dried fruit & nuts isn't great, but in the package -- the stuff is high priced. My better half and I enjoyed a super, duper large peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a medium date with banana shake, an organic low fat milk and a baklava. This is enough for two. Can anyone say the words, "Tourist Trap," 10 times fast and then 10 more times fast backwards? This place is one only an unseasoned Tourist just off the bus from somewhere other than California can like. It's filled with overpriced commercially bagged nuts, candies, breads, chips etc. many not even from California. It's the place you buy a cellophane bag of pecans from Mexico that has a sticker on it that says, Loving Palm Springs." It's like an upscale 7-eleven in some ways. The date shake that many write about is commercially prepared saturated fat ice cream with some local dates thrown in, not the healthy almond milk or coconut milk date shake you get at a health food store. And its not cheap either. Come to my place and I will grind up some dates in fatty ice cream for you for half the price--no skill needed here to make it taste great--it's full fat ice cream!! Probably the best part of the place are the local dates which the area is famous for. But you know--we sampled a few, they only had one organic variety, and none were as good as the ones we get cheaper in grocery stores in LA. I would ONLY come here if you are craving a date--they have a ton, but expect to pay the absolute highest prices for a date anywhere we have seen. My partner used to come here as a child for all the fresh fruits--and it says "fruit" on the yellow front sign. It used to be like a farmers market fruit stand years ago with the cheapest prices around. So I asked two clerks to be sure--"Where is the fruit?" thinking we were missing the stands? Responses: "We don't have that anymore." Now instead, they have Keychains that says "Palm Springs," made in China. read more
