I bought an off the peg Hackett tweed jacket about 20 years ago. It fitted perfectly and, as I have worn it almost every day since, it was obviously very good cloth and well made.
When it finally died, I naturally went back to Hackett on Sloane Street. This time, as they didn't have an off the peg jacket that I liked, I asked their tailoring department to make me a new jacket, as close to the old one as possible. They charged me £600 for this, which seems a lot, but I figured that if it lasts for another 20 years, it will be a good investment.
It didn't fit when I first went to collect it, (not a problem, this is to be expected) and so I went back twice to have it re-adjusted. Each time I was told a series of excuses, such as ; that was the way jackets were worn these days; no-one wears a jumper under a jacket! It does fit sir, you are wrong!
Unfortunately, it still doesn't fit and I am tired of being made to feel stupid by arrogant and rude sales staff, so I will just have to write it off to experience.
I now own an expensive jacket that I never wear. I will NEVER be shopping at Hacketts again. read more
