It is true that Habitat is more expensive than other thrift shops, but it is possible to find beautiful items at reasonable prices. My house flooded, I lost a lot of furniture. I knew I would want to use my large screened in porch, as soon as I got back into it. I bought most of it at Habitat, and it's beautiful, in fact my dream porch furniture. The kind of things, I've never seen in stores. 3 vintage wingback wicker chairs with lovely pillows & several other things. It all cost $750. More than I wanted to spend but worth it. read more

I need to put my two cents in to say Everything is too expensive in Sarasota. So don't knock Habitat because you can't afford it. There are other thrift stores right down the road for you to browse. I moved here 10 years ago and sold everything so I could start fresh. I did not have the luxury to go to a big box store or those ridiculously prices high furniture stores. I chose Habitat because their furniture is upscale and affordable. I am not rich. But if I want to have nice things Habitat is the way to go. They only take nice things. If they didn't it would be another Goodwill. To each her/his own. They have a plethora of everything you would find at Home Depot but just the fraction of the price. Shop for paint there first. It may be half full but everything is marked with color and priced right. read more

I've been going to this store for almost 15 years, they even had a discount location on BeeRidge. It was my go to place when I was furnishing or working on my homes. The last four years it seemed to have changed. The prices became very high and keep going up. It's like they are catering to small contractors and not the average guy. I'd say, the last ten times I've been in there, I couldn't find anything. Never in the past had that happen.... Many of us have discovered the Bradenton branch, they are the way you use to be. I'm never disappointed there. Today, this morning I called 17th St to see if they were open and if the damaged building would be available too. You took almost exactly five hours to return my call from the earlier message. I tried several times but got put right into voice mail. The Venice and Port Charlotte branches answered my calls right away?????? We all use to love to go check you out often, but not anymore. Overpriced and they are WAY too picky on what they will accept for donations! Brought in a relatively new white elongated bowl toilet, wouldn't take it because the bowl and the tank were separated...big deal its a doughnut gasket & a hardware kit! 70 sq ft. of new in the box 16 x 16 porcelain tile...wouldn't take because it "wasn't enough..." They should change the name to Habitat for High Prices. These items are donated, and priced above retail. The employees are incredulous, rude, and entitled. We went there to help a person down on their luck get some much needed furniture for their temp housing situation after losing everything in the last hurricane. Pointed out imperfections and in one instance where the item needed repaired to function and they still wouldn't discount the item. I even showed the lady that the price was above retail for the same item. This place should be investigated and lose their non profit status, something shady is going on. This place has an attitude that amazes, considering that it is supposedly a charity -- but then, the bosses make out, which is important. As for their "good" furniture module, you're better off buying the same thing new, as the prices are ridiculous for used furnishings. The second module is more like a thrift store, but again, prices are generally unbelievably high, esp. the kitchen things, cheaper new on Amazon. The third section in the back is contractors' stuff, cabinets, shelves, outdoor furniture, tile seconds, etc. I've bought a few things here because they were useful and priced ok. My God. How I loathe this place. If you plan on donating, don't do it. If you want a free house, that might be alright. As I found out, Habitat is not in the business of taking donations. Either the drivers are too lazy to carry it out or upper management wants brand new stuff for their free houses or the re-store. I called to complain after they refused to accept a perfectly good bed set from our guest bedroom. We needed the room for other things. I guess the bed set was only good enough for our bedbug-ridden, disgusting house. Not good enough for those beloved Habitat free houses or the re-store since the driver took a couple pics and said, "we can't take this, it's not good enough". Lazy. In my opinion This store well deserves a two star rating. I bought a "designer coffee table" priced at $475... two days later I found the same table new at Kanes for $275. The store managers resolution was to give me a gift certificate for $100... with an expiration date that made it almost useless. I was forced to spend it before I found something I needed. Comparing Restore to other similar businesses.. it's way overpriced and not always "authentic"... im guessing they use websites like 1st Dibbs for pricing is not a credible appraisal source. Good place to buy furniture you can see all in one place versus Craig's list, estate sales or garage sales. The prices are too high but lower than new (in some cases) the rugs are priced and new unused prices.... some of the couches and lamps were also priced at new prices yet everything is used (donated for free) but for a good cause. The place is clean and organized. They have two stores next to each other at this location - one store is only furniture and the other store has plates, cups, deco, kitchen appliances, books, mirrors, dish sets, and more furniture. Totally over priced unless you buy during their 50% off sale. They price items at regular price yet dish sets are missing pieces. So if you buy during there 50% off sale events you get a decent deal for a good cause. read more

I used to have the highest respect for the RESTORE in Sarasota. Until today. I have visited the store a few times recently looking for a chair for our family room. I found the right chair. It was VERY expensive as is most of their merchandise now. So, I asked if there were any sales coming. Including Memorial Day sale. They said no. They did not expect any sales any time soon including Memorial Day. I really wanted the chair. So, I paid for it on 5/16/24 in the afternoon. I went to pick the chair up this morning 5/17/24. There was a 20% off all furniture sign. I was taken back by this and asked for the sale price since I was told there "was no sales anytime soon" 12 hours before. And the 20% difference was $110! They refused to discount my chair at all. I asked to speak to the manager. They were very condescending. The manager refused to speak with me. The prices in this RESTORE are outrageous. But the attitude of the management is disgusting. I have lost all respect for this organization. You can buy new furniture for the prices in this store. I would highly recommend checking out Goodwill or some of the local consignment shops where they still treat people with respect. read more

Don't donate unless your things look like new. I had a decent looking love seat. Just doesn't fit my house after a move. Donation pick up Restore employees lifted up the cushions of the love seat and indicated that the bottom of the cushion that hadn't been exposed to people should look the same as the arm rest. Their standards pretty much makes almost any used item you donate, too old. They want new things or in very much like new condition. I just wish the person on the phone would have told me this before I waited 2 weeks to have them come. Otherwise the delivery drivers are very nice. read more

This establishment is actually made of up two buildings. One building is entirely home FURNISHINGS and the other is made up primarily of home ACCESSORIES (and I'm not sure which was which) - with a cute little women's boutique mixed in. As with many thrift stores, the prices were hit-or-miss, but if you're looking for a china set, or an unusual vanity and happen to be in the area, this may be a place you should check first. Although some of the prices were very high ($3 for used vinyl kitchen spoons?), others were also very reasonable when combined with the store discounts. The women's boutique didn't offer much and the prices were shockingly high. $10 for costume jewelery and $20 for a hair dryer. read more

Don't shop at Habitat for Humanity ReStore if you have a medical breathing condition!! Today 2/20/21, I went into the ReStore on 17th St Sarasota. I was looking for a dresser and was willing to spend a few hundred. I was wearing a face shield when I entered the store. I immediately was approached by an angry woman who worked there that told me I had to wear a mask. I showed her my shield which was on and I pulled a rescue inhaler out of my purse and told her I have COPD and cannot breath with the mask on. She said it dosen't matter that this is private property and thats the rules. I reminded her that Sarasota County just removed its mask mandate yesterday because our case rate is so low. I left peacefully and told her to have a nice day. It was apparent that she wasn't. Todays case rate is 122 known cases and 0 deaths. I'm glad I didn't spend my money at a place like this with pitbulls at the gate ready to pounce. They should remove the name HUMANITY from their name. A (501C3) non profit organization. read more

The prices on almost everything was worse than buying brand new at a furniture store. Which makes it even worse because they get this stuff for free. 55just had jason and kedeen here to pick up a sofa bed. they called before they came as promised. both were vaccinated. both used utmost care to move the sofa bed around corners and unfriendly doorways. couldn't have asked for better service. plus, jenny who made the arrangements called back when she had a cancelation and the sofa bed was picked up today instead of having to wait. thoroughly satisfied with service and personnel! read more

There are 3 Habitat stores next to each other--one mainly for lamps and furniture; one beside it for household goods, books, videos and less expensive furniture; and, in back of the first, one for appliances, outdoor furniture, and building supplies. I have found real bargains in each of the three. Some furniture is quite high end. It all depends what was donated. It's worth a weekly trip. read more
