I wanted to try this place out as I've seen many good reviews, unfortunately I did not have a great experience.
I happened to be in the plaza after their happy hour lunch time was over, and before their "nighttime bar" hours was starting. That's on me, it was an awkward time but it was not a planned visit and I was starving.
Pros:
- nice environment
- free Watermelon at the end
Cons:
Prices were not the cheapest and over half of their menu was not available because the happy hour lunch time was over.
The staff just automatically assumed I can speak mandarin as soon as I sat down. (I can only speak a little). My friend who I was with, cannot speak Chinese at ALL and told them that... however they just continued to speak in chinese to him. Maybe it's because they couldn't speak any English, but it was pretty funny seeing how he continued to speak English and they continued to respond to him in Chinese lol. As for me, when I didn't understand some of the foods she was referring to in Chinese, she seemed frustrated and pulled out her phone to show me a picture... which I appreciated... but her tone before that was not the greatest.
Due to the language barrier, a lot was not communicated correctly. I can speak some Mandarin so I asked the woman if rice came with the dish we ordered. She said yes! Then later after clarifying with her again, she said we HAVE rice. So I asked her if we need to pay extra for it, and she said YES...
The dishes came and there was a piece of hair on the side. I did not bother to tell them because I was pretty annoyed at that point already.
No utensils were brought out with the dishes. There were also no utensils on the table.
The 2 waitresses KEPT ON pushing me and my friend to order drinks (and to order seafood at the beginning) to the point where I felt annoyed and uncomfortable. The first ask for drinks I understand, because I didn't end up ordering any drinks. But the 2nd time when they brought out a dish, asked again... and the 3rd time , they didn't even bring anything to me and just came up and asked do you want to order any drinks? We also have non alcoholic drinks. I flat out said no. I'm sure they have some type of quota from their management to push for drinks from all customers. But I didn't hear them do the same to other tables (at that awkward hour, the other tables were mostly families and older people).
When the bill came, they messed up our bill. We only ordered 2 entrees and when the bill came it was $100+. Turns out if you don't order all at once, they get confused. My friend ordered first and then I ordered a 2nd entree later because I needed more time with the menu. They accidentally included another tables full meal on our bill.
I will only be coming back once more, on their actual happy hour times to see if the food is worth it and if better service will be provided. But definitely a very bad first experience. read more
