I made a reservation for 6 at 1:30 pm on Mother's Day. When we arrived, we waited 10 -15 minutes in the host line before we were greeted. This, coupled with the fact there were lots of empty tables that had not been bussed, let me know that the restaurant was not equipped to handle the volume of customers and was in the weeds. When we told the host we were a party of 6 with a reservation, he seemed surprised and distraught - immediately leaving to bus one of the tables. A quality restaurant would have expected us and had our table prepared prior to our arrival. Multiple people in our party mentioned the host's frantic demeanor. I don't blame him - it was clear the restaurant was overwhelmed, despite so many empty tables. Was the kitchen backed up? We were sat at the table and the server was very pleasant - a very nice woman. She brought out the water - tap water which smelled and tasted a little funny. I would have expected filtered or bottled water, especially when the tap water quality was poor. At this point, given the above, we decided to leave. If the experience up to this point was not up to par, we didn't want to take our chances. We've seen too many Kitchen Nightmares episodes to take the risk. Chaos in the front of house is normally correlated to chaos in the back. Hopefully the restaurant takes our constructive criticisms to heart and tries to make some improvements. The buck starts with the management.

Simply can't wait to return. The long version says the following: The location is easy to get too, and the inside of the restaurant is visually appealing. Though I do lean towards the beachy, tropical theme of things, this place does it without being kitschy or tacky. Though I expected the inside to have been wholly remodeled since the last restaurant that was a tenant here - it really had not. Instead, they updated the seating, bar, and outside to their taste - which is good, IMHO. I really liked the use of tablets for their menus. This was novel to me as I had never experienced it until I came here. The tablets worked well and even so, you got a feel for how extensive their menu truly is. Food-wise, there were no complaints around the table. I had their pork bowl which not only comes out hot and fresh, but copious - I just couldn't finish it - they piled on the food with what appeared to be wild abandon. My wife had their fajita plate which was massive. That definitely ended up going home with us. Desserts were their flan which had a flavor I had not expected, maybe not to true style, but definitely rich and delicious. No complaints here. Service was not only friendly but patient with us as we had plenty of questions for being our first time here, but it wasn't as attentive as I would have like. I think the waiter was overstretched in tables, but he still did an overall great job with us. In short, the newest Mexican restaurant in the area represents very well, and we are looking forward to our next trip back, hopefully very soon...

The Greek omelet with potatoes was perfectly seasoned and cooked just right. The Southern Benedict with hash browns and the Alaskan Benedict with grits were both excellent--classic comfort food done right. The Breakfast Bundle with chocolate chip pancakes was a big hit... although those pancakes disappeared so fast I'm not convinced we didn't imagine them. The food came out hot and fast (always impressive when a place is clearly busy), and the coffee and soda refills for the kids kept coming without us even having to ask. Service was friendly and welcoming the entire time. The restaurant was clean, there's outdoor seating available, and the whole place just has that "great local breakfast spot" feel. This latest visit was a perfect example of why many longtime customers are giving up. It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the kind of day when this place used to be packed with people waiting for a table. Instead it was surprisingly quiet and the inside bar was empty which should have tipped us off. After our recent experience, it's obvious why. We waited for over an hour for two sandwiches. Not a complicated order. Not a huge party. Two sandwiches. During that entire time, there was no sense of urgency from the bar waitress, no effort to keep us informed and no indication that anyone cared that customers were sitting watching the clock. When we finally asked about the delay, the response was "it's busy outside", it wasn't , in fact almost nobody. But after waiting for over an hour, customers don't want excuses - they want someone who actually cares and seems concerned about good service. A simple apology, an update, or even a little empathy would have gone a long way. Instead, the attitude seemed to be that our frustration was somehow our problem. Then the food arrived. The mahi Reuben was a complete disaster. The bread was so soggy and waterlogged that it literally fell apart. It wasn't just bad, it was inedible. Who knew that sour kraut must be at a premium when it wasn't even added. Any kitchen, or server, with even the slightest standards would have thrown it in the trash, along with the cold soggy fries. Instead, it was served without a second thought. The most frustrating part is that this isn't a one-time experience and seems to be more the norm than the exception. The kitchen has been going downhill for a while with LONG wait times and mediocre food and it seems that nobody is interested in fixing it. Orders take forever, quality continues to decline and the response from staff seems to range from indifference to excuses. A restaurant doesn't survive for decades because of its building or location. It survives because of loyal customers. I've know Pineda through many owners, it now feels like management is relying entirely on a reputation that was earned decades ago while doing very little to maintain it. After almost 30 years, this was the worst experience I've ever had here. An hour wait for two sandwiches, and inedible meal, and the only explanation being "it's not my fault." Maybe that's the problem. Everyone has an excuse, but nobody has a solution. At this point, the biggest disappointment isn't the food, it's the overwhelming feeling that nobody cares. And it's sad, as I've met the owners at their other establishment - I expect and deserve better - especially at $17 FOR A SANDWICH!!!

My blueberry pancake was excellent, with what looked like fresh blueberries inside, and bonus points for real butter, not some processed garbage. You can tell they care about serving quality. My wife's country fried steak was delicious and generously portioned. She ate about a third of it with the intent of taking it home, as it was delicious. Being a Good Samaritan, I devoured her leftovers, and saved her the hassle of a to-go box. Fun, welcoming vibe, great food, and efficient service, all wrapped into a perfect little breakfast spot.
