After obtaining the needed estimates, they obtained the proper permits and made the city very happy. This is a full flawless operation.. Job was completed successfully, but 375 dollars to install a bathroom faucet (provided the faucet) seems a bit steep to me; for a job that took one hour to complete. Plumber also had to "run out to Ace" to get some caulk. I thought it odd that a plumber would not have caulk on hand! He also tried to charge for extra work that I had refused up front! But, hey.. I'm the idiot that ok'ed the estimate, so there is that. But I don't like to be gouged, so it's one and done for me. read more

Do NOT use HR Stewart. They will rob you blind. I trusted them because my wife's employer uses them. Bad assumption they are trustworthy. When we moved into my house 7 years ago our upstairs furnace died shortly after moving in. I asked them to install a Carrier Infinity system. They said that the Goodman system they wanted to install was just as good or better. I believed them. He had me pay him in cash. Thought I was getting a great deal. Alarm bells went off when I asked for an electrostatic air filter but just got a high flow filter. He wanted another couple thousand for the electrostatic. For years I never could I understand why the AC ran nearly continuously in the summer and our upstairs was always hot. I contacted the owner multiple times and he assured me it was normal. It's what happens with multi-zone systems like we have as the cool air upstairs flows down. After several years of discomfort it got to be too much. One of my neighbors is in HVAC. I told him of my issues and he offered to come look at my system. First of all the system was a normal furnace not anywhere near what a Carrier Infinity system could be. It was not a high seer AC like I requested (it was only 13 seer). And as it turns out the indoor unit is 3 ton and sized right for my upstairs, but the outdoor AC unit is only 2 ton! Completely the wrong size and mismatched to the indoor unit. I was shafted in what I thought was a deal. I raised concerns and was told things were functioning normally. Had the unit cleaned and serviced multiple times in an effort to get cooler upstairs and no one ever said a thing. Now after 7 years I have to buy a new outdoor unit to correct my issue when an honest and decent dealer would have sold me what I asked for and sized it correctly. Jim Stewart is a crook. Called HR Stewart on a Friday a few weeks ago during one of the Chicago hot spells. Our air conditioner was leaking water all over our basement floor. Our basement is fully furnished so I was naturally in a bit of a panic plus the water was leaking into the electrical components of the heat/as combo unit. We were mopping and wringing out towels every 5 minutes. I called HR Stewart's emergency number and left a message (knowing it was after hours and I probably wouldn't actually get a live person). I get a call back about 20 minutes later from their on-call technician and explain the problem to him. First he tells me that their "overtime rate" is $250 per hour. I figured well, this is going to cost a lot more if we don't do anything, so I tell him ok, that's fine. Then he says that it's gong to be 3 or 4 hours before he can get there....ummm, it was already 6pm but I figure they're probably been busy because it's hot, so I tell him no problem. Then he asks if I'm part of their quarterly service contract. I tell him no but that they've been out before and even installed the unit. That's when he tells me that they don't consider an AC unit leaking onto the floor and the electrical panel to be a valid "emergency/after-hours" call and that besides, they are only coming out for people who have a quarterly service contract. Apparently they had already been on X number of calls that day and so I should wait and call back Monday; they MIGHT be able to come out then. I was livid. Luckily, just then another HVAC company called me back. They came out from Arlington Heights in about an hour, charged me $135 per hour, and had the problem fixed in 30 minutes. I'm in the market for a new AC/furnace unit sometime within the next 3 - 6 months. You can be sure HR Stewart is NOT getting my business, but the other guy in Arlington Heights will be! read more

I called this morning at 753 AM to schedule main sewer line rodding. I was fortunate to have some one else cancel and Anthony was at my house by 815AM ( I do live close to their shop) and finished by 900AM. Cost was reasonable. We have used H R Stewart for years and are always satisfied with the service we receive. read more

My introduction to H.R. Stewart wasn't under the best of circumstances. The tenant in my rental house called me frantic letting me know that there was sewage backflowing into the mud room at the house. The tenant called HR Stewart to come out, and he did a great job of explaining everything that was going on to me. It was obvious that he tried everything that he could think of to get the problem fixed for as low of an expense as possible. Unfortunately, however, my problem was with tree roots collapsing my main sewer line. The had to dig up the pipe in the front yard and remove part of the sidewalk in order to fix the issue. They explained everything to me in detail, gave me an exact price (not an estimate, but exactly what it would cost ahead of time) and really worked with me on a plan to pay for the work. The whole time they were friendly, professional, responsive, and did great work. The job was fixed in one day, and pretty soon the yard was back to looking like nothing had ever been done to it. Had them come in to install a new gas lines for a shop. There was some tight areas around steel columns and some real tight corners they had to deal with. It literally looks like a work of art next to another competitors work. Everything they used is american made. If you want someone out right away without any leaks or issues use HR Stewart or you'll use them to fix the other pipe fitters mistakes read more

Had them to our house to hook up a gas line for a clothes dryer. They did great work and were professional, however, they were very expensive. Might look at other options in the future. read more

I can't say enough good things about this company. Due to a gas leak, the gas supply was shutoff to my house. My family had no heat, no hot water and couldn't cook. I needed the piping rerouted through my garage. I called HR Stewart and spoke with Kathy Wednesday morning. She was able to add me to the schedule that afternoon. Anthony came out and assessed the situation and immediately began calling to get a couple of guys out to my place to ensure the job was done that day. He explained how everything was to be completed. Brian and David showed up and starting working right away and finished quicker than expected. They did an awesome job, and the technician from Nicor even commented on how well the job was done. My gas was restored about an hour after the work was completed. Everyone I dealt with was professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. The price for the work completed was more than fair and much appreciated. I HIGHLY recommend this company to everyone. Our water heater started to leak. -Tons of water from all sides (we didn't know this was happing for a few hours) After we turned off the water and power and we cleaned up all the water in our basement (that sucked), we were not sure who to call. My Dad who owns a small appliance store in the area recommended H.R. Stewart. They were great. I called at 8 am and they said they could be there in 15 minutes. Anthony came to the house and talked me though all our options. The prices were very comparable with others in the area. He got to work right away and was finished in a few hours.
