This is like the grocery outlet of H Marts, yet without the savings. It's a pretty cramped store and the selection is much smaller than the other H-marts, which is understandable considering it's not a suburban strip mall location. I thought the produce looked not great and the meat selection was small. If you need ramen, they do have a lot of that. I didn't go upstairs. It's probably great for the students in the area to have at least some access to this instead of the sad Asian aisle at the local grocery chain. read more

Finally open! The H Mart seemed to come out of nowhere and I'm so thankful. They have two floors! Everything is very clean and organized on their first day of opening. People were checking out with good speed and the employees were happy and helpful. The first floor has the grab/go food and cold beverages upon the left when you enter, and then there is fresh produce on the opposite wall leading into an open freezer section. The middle section is more grocery items. Going upstairs can be tight during a busy time, but there is an elevator if needed. The upstairs is where all the snacks and beverages are! So much haribo gummy and ramen noodles. There is house items along the back wall and over to the right which hosts a small cosmetic selection. They don't have a parking lot nor do they validate parking for nearby lots. Welcome to the Ave! read more

For someone that's used to travel 30 miles to the closest H Mart in the Chicago suburbs, this H Mart is a godsend. Yes, it's teeny tiny. Yes, it has a sad selection of produce. But, it's got pretty much all of the other Asian cooking/eating essentials. The assortment of sauces and snacks (on the second floor, along with household items like cookware) is especially impressive given the small store size. One word of caution: make sure you look at the production date of their ready-to-eat items like kimbap. I accidentally picked up a veggie kimbap that was a day old and did not notice. It was awful. Rice was stiff and the roll was dry. The beef kimbap on the other hand was perfectly fine coz it was prepared on that same day. So just pay attention to the packaging! Great typical H Mart quality kimchi and meat, but I was really disappointed by the produce!! They definitely have room to get a bit more selection in, and the greens were all very old looking (maybe damaged by the very tight shrink wrap? seems like a bad way to package delicate leafy greens). I would have made it my go-to grocery if produce was more plentiful, but things like alcohol got 3x the space as it. I guess it's more of a convenient store than normal H Mart. The gift shop upstairs has some cute gifts and a small selection of high quality Korean cosmetics. read more

Although smaller than the Federal Way and Lakewood locations I've been to, I can always count on this location to carry all the pre-made Korean dishes my friends and I crave (heads up: they're located in the fridge, to the left upon entering). It costs a lot less than prepping your own ingredients or eating out, and taste much better/fresh too in my opinion. My friends and I bought containers of spicy pork bulgogi, tteokbokki, fish cake soup, and some other side dishes, totaling to about $34 (such a bargain). My all time fave and go-to is the tteokbokki kit. HIGHLY recommend buying and adding some water/broth to it (brought back nostalgia eating out in Korea). read more

I am very disappointed to find out that if you purchase an item from an Hmart location you have to return it to the same location and you can't return it at any other Hmart even if they carry the item. I purchased an item at the Federal Way location since I was in the area and later decided that I did not need it for a dish. It's non-perishable and unopened. I highly recommend that you don't purchase an item from an Hmart that is further from your home unless you know that you need the item. Imagine if Target or Safeway had the same return policy. read more

Needing to get some korean sauces late at night and this was the closest location to me. This was the first time I visited this location, I usually trek my way to the Lynnwood location as it's the biggest store, but the one in Bellevue has warm food and cold banchan that I love to get as well. This store is like the mini version of H-mart even though they are a two-story building. The minute we walked through the entrance door, we had to snake our way through the people waiting in line to pay at the cashier, trying to maintain our social distance during this pandemic. They opened the entrance door wide open and the frozen sections are all open freezer type so the first floor literally is a freezer. It's cold af. After seeing the limited selection of products on the first floor, we went to the second floor where it's warmer and less cramped. There's also a small room where all Kpop stuff and other cute knickknacks are displayed. I must say this probably what differentiates this location to the others. They sell The Alley instant bubble tea but they don't have English-translation on the label nor the price label (usually at other H-Mart or Uwajimaya, they would indicate the price and the product name as well as the flavor for each one on the paper label on the shelves so we know what we're buying). Anyway, this H-Mart is a good addition for students and some shopping although they carry limited products, so if you need some specific items you might need to go out your way to their other locations. read more

Lazy and unhelpful two employees, a stocker and a cashier. I want to like you. No employees upstairs. No produce I'm looking for. Expensive

Pros: - Love the older female and the big older male staff (both look like managers or something). They are super friendly, patient, and seem very respectful. - Like a lot of foods they have. Cons: - Some younger staff don't seem friendly at all. As a customer, I say hi and bye to all of them when they ring me up, they don't say hi and bye back. I have almost never seen staff who don't greet customers. It is an issue. They are the faces of the business. They need to greet customers especially when the customers greet them first and try to be respectful. I think I am explaining this more than enough. - Not many foods compared to other H-marts (Lynwood, Bellevue, Federal Way) even though it in the U-District where a lot of college students live. read more

I don't know why it took so long for H Mart to finally make its way down into Seattle. We've been needing this for decades. No longer do I have to make the trek up to Lynnwood or across to Bellevue. It's not as expensive as the other stores, so don't expect a full deli selection but trust me, the store makes up for it in snacks and other Asian paraphernalia. Downstairs you'll find your usual staples for cooking, upstairs is solidly snacks and sweets. Best of all, theres a cute little shop inside of the store that sells Asian beauty products, such as Dr. Jart and other cute items. read more

I'm not sure about this location, yet. I frequent Lynnwood and Bellevue stores and their ready-to eat things are pretty fresh. 3 out of 5 times I bought kimbap at the U-District store, they were old and I had to throw them out. I hate wasting food and money. What's the big deal? Well, it's equivalent to paying full price for a couple day old French Baguette. You were expecting chewy and moist but you got dry and crumbly. When I'm hungry, stuff like that really pisses me off. I also bought soju there since, my God, do they carry enough booze. It was advertised for $4.49 but with all the taxes, it came out to be like $7 for a 375ml soju(small bottle). I get it, it's WA's fault for all the different taxes but it would be honest if H-Mart would post what the extra-tax on top of regular sales tax would be. I'm not from WA and I don't spend all my free time reading up on WA tax codes. So overall, as long as you buy prepackaged stuff, watch out for production dates, and know you would be paying a lot more for non beer/wine alcohol than the sticker price, you would be ok. Oh, they also charge .10cents for a bag and if you ask for chop sticks since you bought kimbap, they charge you for that, too. I didn't know they charge for chop sticks until I checked my receipt. I don't feel they are transparent with their pricing and honest about the quality of their packaged food. Getting nickle and dimed and not know about it is even worst. I'm not that eager or happy to go back because I don't trust how they treat their customers. read more

It has convenience store prices. There's an upstairs second level. It's kind of like a mini-mart. The product selection doesn't make sense. You will find like 10 different kinds of the same thing (e.g. gochujang. Or sesame oil: light sesame oil, dark sesame oil, premium sesame oil, premium light sesame oil, premium dark sesame oil, all the kinds of sesame oil to take up shelf space). If you need Sesame Oil. This is your place. Sesame Oil World. I did not know UW students were so into Sesame Oil. Somewhat disappointing. read more

This is a welcome addition to Udistrict; it is really going to help students for years to come. However, if you are familiar with other H Marts, then please note that the selection of produce and fresh items is pretty limited. This should really be called an H Mart Express or a Mini-HMart because the selection of fresh food (and even some packaged items) is very limited compared to the usual (10 varieties by 10 companies for each snack or item) at other HMarts. It is good for Udistrict, but it is not as good as HMarts usually are. (And if you have the time, it is worth going all the way to Uwajimaya for a real haul. If you don't or if you only need 1-3 items, then yep, hit it up and enjoy!) read more

A very convenient place to shop, but I keep on paying stuff that is different from the displayed price. It might be my fault for not meticulously read the tag, but imagine seeing "Calpico for $1.99" at 1.5L Calpico sect or "Mochi for $1.45" for set of 6? Doesn't it intrigues you to quickly snatch them? Tbh, I admit it my fault for not reading the price tag carefully, yet I wish I don't have to read them carefully every.single.time. Nice place they have in uw but not as much meat as I hoped it would be... they didn't have as much meat selection compared to the other h marts . The pricing were a little over than usual and had less meat . But overall a nice place 4/5 because not much meat selection for KBBQ read more

What a great business move! So sad this mart was not available when I was at UW. I pray that they open up another one in downtown. I have been hearing about their downtown location for 3 years, but yet still nothing. I also wish they would open up the new light rail station soon. It is a bit of walk from the current UW station. We wanted to stock up on cup noodles so we decided to check out the new HMart, let me tell you, before you decide to head into the lower level make sure to bring a parka or hot hands because it is cold AF!! All the freezers are open with no doors so it is incredibly cold even on a hot summer day. It took us a while to find the upper level but eventually found the staircase behind the cashier. But overall this place has a ton of food selections and cute knick knacks. read more

H Mart is great for most of my Asian grocery needs. They do primarily focus on snacks and ramen, but they have a great section of spices and oils upstairs as well. I did have a really negative experience once: the older male cashier rang me up and I paid with card. I said no to a bag, stuffed my receipt in my pocket and headed out. Then a younger male cashier, at the next register, (who I haven't seen since this trip, but I also don't frequent H Mart that much) ran out behind me as I was headed back to work yelling at me. It's the Ave so I didn't think much of someone yelling, until he caught up with me and got in my face. He accused me of stealing the two snacks I bought in a very loud voice and demanded to see my receipt. I get it, it's the Ave, theft happens a lot. But I was at the register next to him, I refuse to believe he didn't see me less than 5 feet away. Also I wasn't the only customer in the store, so why chase me down? Because I said no to a bag for my two items? That equated to theft in his mind, I guess. However, he seemed more embarrassed about his mistake than I was. I was more startled and confused. I stayed away from this H Mart for quite some time, mostly worried that I would be yelled at on the street (not that anyone would really care or notice) and accused of theft. And frankly, I think about this experience every time I go in there. Like I said, I get it. They probably deal with a lot of theft. But there is a much better and professional way to go about this. Have someone checking receipts at the door if that's really a concern. There are small signs posted about doing so, yet there's never anyone actually checking. read more

I bought a pack of garlic (5) for $1.79 two days ago. When I about to use it yesterday, I found almost all of them were moldy. You can't tell from its appearance, because they were prepacked. I threw them away immediately but forgot to take pictures. When I go back to ask for a refund with the receipt, they said they cannot get me a refund because vegetables like garlic need to be returned within 2 hours. It is more frustrating than I found the garlic went bad when my main purpose I went there is for garlic and they all went bad initially. What if I live very far or I use the vegetable that doesn't need to be kept in a refrigerator like garlic so I found out they are bad more than two hours after I purchase them? The H mart return/refund policy is ridiculous. They seem to care about if customers provide evidence than to check if other garlic are moldy too on the shelf. read more

I'm not a fan of the compact parking. However they have somethings other Asian markets don't have. They have fresh baby mussels and clams. The mussels are not frozen and is relatively clean with out much seaweed stuck to them. They have by the bull frozen aisle tofu/fish combo, fish balls, fish cakes! Make your own fish cakes using the frozen one is much better than the prepared fish cake they sell. Their prepared food I like the pumpkin soup. Their prepared side dishes aren't as good as restaurants. And the need to label red and white dragon fruits correctly. I had bought two red ones and after paying I left store to peel open. And it was one white. I had over paid for it. I bought back to store with my receipt to get the difference. There are things they can improve upon and it a place worth going to depending on what you need. read more
