This is definitely the SMALLEST H-Mart I've ever been to, but it's the closest. And even with its small size, there were good options and the staff I interacted with were very nice. It also wasn't as busy as other H-Marts I've been to, which was appreciated. I found some good deals here and when something wasn't ringing up properly, the cashier went out of her way to get the correct item for me. Very appreciated. While I prefer the larger stores, I'd come back for key ingredients in a pinch! read more

Believe it or not, I went here in search of baby octopus (fresh) to prepare for dinner tonight as an appetizer. The store was very well miss out, clean and shelves (as well as seafood, produce and pasta) were well stocked in decidedly Korean, Chinese, Japanese and Thai locality specialties. The fishmonger communicated with me through hand gestures and I helped myself to selecting the octopi that I wanted and I was on my way after grabbing a package of shabu shabu frozen meat. The selection is terrific. The quality is excellent and the store is run safely and efficiently. I'm looking forward to being a return customer! read more

I really do like H Mart. Yet this one is crammed, in a small shopping center. This definitely makes logistics more challenging. I prefer the Burke location more. Finding a parking spot can be a headache. That being said very friendly employees. Props to them, as they are polite and professional. The store is very clean. Also you'll find good deals on fruits and vegetables here. If you can deal with the parking situation, it works but I'll stick with the Burke, or other locations that they have. read more

I'm a fan of this location. I come here every couple of months to stock up on rabbit for my delicate flower of a dog who seems to be allergic to most proteins. Produce is generally good and reasonably priced! Scallions and cilantro are in better shape than what you see at Aldi and even a bit cheaper. Every once in a while you can find some nice fruit on sale as well. I got a box of strawberries for $1.99 today. Sashimi is also really good quality! I took a chance and was really surprised that it was actually decent. You can also get pretty much any Asian sauce under the sun. While I have always like H Mart I was not a regular visitor until our move to area behind Annandale HS. This is the closest grocery story to us and I probably visit it the third most often, behind Aldi and Giant. This is a smaller H Mart and feels a little tight inside. My favorite things to get here are dumplings and produce in general with this being my go-to spot for garlic. Don't know their garlic source but it is consistently the best garlic I can buy and given that one of the nice things about working from home is garlic consumption with limited concerns I have been a few times for garlic. Also, shout out to their handling of the pandemic. For the first couple months they had gloves, masks, and hand sanitizer at a check station when you entered. Their cashiers have protective barriers and everyone on staff is abiding by the posted rules which are visible before entry. read more

This is an awesome place to get groceries! Produce is super cheap and fresh! They have a lot of marinated meats ready to grill and also great prepared dishes. I'm glad to see diversity here in northern Virginia, and ethnic stores such as H Mart are a good representation of that. My crew came here after having dinner and dessert, as we were buying some wine and supplies to continue our night of fun. This place is pretty good, it has tons of choices for all things Korean food. We found some Korean rice wine similar to the one we had at the barbecue place an hour prior. We also bought some grape wine, and some raspberry liquor. The grape wine was great, but the raspberry liquor not so much. The other stuff we bought were cherries, chocolates, and chips. Checkout took a bit, because there was a long line. But I really have nothing negative to say about this place, so five stars it is. read more

This is a smaller version of Super H Mart (located in Fairfax), so the variety of snacks and certain items are extremely limited. The produce, such as the lettuce, scallions, and other green leafy items are super fresh; potatoes tend to be a little mushy. The meat section is pretty okay - I like the fact that they carry cubed sirloin tips for making Japanese curry at home - super convenient! Their ready-to-eat section has increased in terms of offerings, as they are now offering kimchi tuna fried rice with fried tempura, fried dumplings, and soondae (blood sausages). Their shabu options are also better than the other Hmart/Super Hmart that I've seen (their samgyupsahl and their chadolbaegi is much more fresh and are usually always available). On weekends, you will see some samples on items that are on sale/have great deals. The people there seem a lot "less annoying" than other places, and you don't get the ghetto-ness of finding milk or ice-cream sitting in the chips and soda section because someone changed their mind and was too lazy to walk all the way back to re-shelf the item in the appropriate spot, OR finding all the products discombobulated across every shelf because people were trying to find the "perfect" package....even though they are all exactly the same....OR people parking their carts to form obstacle courses and playing bumper carts. Hmart is a special place because it's the closest Korean grocery store to me in D.C. (I rented a Getaround car to get down there). I actually like that it's arranged like a Korean store instead of an American store, which makes it easier to find my favorite delicious things. 1) They have good cookware and accessories. I had been looking for a dolsot--stone bowl for bibimbap--and was thrilled to snag one for only $8. Now to deal with the fact that I have an electric stove... 2) They have many marinades, sauces, and spices that you would find in Korea. Yay! 3) Oddly, there is a very small soju collection that what one might expect. They don't have some of the nice regional brands like , but that's OK. 4) There was a really nice lady giving samples of some of the vegetable mandu, which I immediately bought a big bag of. Don't miss the samples near the center of the store. Because of Annandale's Metro inaccessibility, I'm only down here every once in a blue moon, but when I am, I feel right at home! Hmart is one of my favorite grocery stores when I was living back in the West Coast. This place was amazing - lots of really fresh looking meats and produce on hand. I was almost overwhelmed by how much stuff was here. The only thing that I would critique is the price. Some of this stuff is ridiculously expensive, and I understand most of these products are imported, but 6 things of microwavable rice for $10 is just a little more than my wallet can handle. Otherwise, I was really impressed with the number of marinated side dishes (kimchi, black beans, seaweed salad, etc.) were available on the counters. I also got myself some rice cake because I have a daily craving for those...mmmm. ALSO, there was a pretty decent-sized ice cream collection that caught my eye. The Nougat bars are my absolute favorite, along with the soda pop popsicles! The lines also went by pretty quickly, which I could appreciate. Will be coming back here! read more

Fairly small H Mart. You won't find food stalls or seating areas here like you might with other super H Marts. The selection is good for the size of the store. There's an aisle of Asian snacks, a decent selection of instant ramen, a section of various produce, a small beauty area, a "ready to eat meal" spot, etc. Basically, come here if you're looking for general Korean groceries. I actually really liked the "ready to eat" area. There was a good selection of tasty foods such as soups, various side dishes, blood sausage, kimchi fried rice...I ended up getting the Kimbap for less than $5. For over 10 pieces a pack, the Kimbap turned into a very affordable lunch for me the next day! I didn't get a chance to buy any produce so I couldn't rate the quality of them. I also was unable to find the beauty section until after I checked out because the area was tucked away in a little corner near the front of the store. Overall a fairly standard and small store. The best part of this H mart is the prepared foods section. A few cons might be the size, the layout, and possibly the freshness of the produce. read more

Yesterday was my 2nd trip to this location and the first trip's booty were fine. I made a purchase of about a dozen items. 3 were awful... 1) The durian popsicle were all freezer burned, speckled with white dots, melted edges that were chunked white and... the freezer burned 'flavor'. I used to wrinkle my nose at durian but someone told me that if you ate an entire durian (doesn't have to be in one setting) you'll come to love durian. Well, I did that in Asia and fell in love with durian. So know I try to get my fix through popsicles, because I can't bring myself to buy frozen durian, it looks so tragic. Back to the polls, despite durian's cocktail of strange flavors, the freezer burn 'flavor' COULD NOT be disguised and took center stage. Low turn-over? Just belch... The durian pops were yummy from my first purchase. 2) Schmidt wheat bread - left a strange plastic after taste. Was it sitting out on the loading dock for too long during one of the unexpected warm days? 3) Chinse pork jerky - also tasted of plastic. Just too bizarre... been eating this brand for 30 years and never had one taste like this... Not sure what to think, logistics was sleeping? Thought of taking it back but I know from reading other posts that I'll likely be laughed out of there. So from now on, am making the journey out to the Super H Mart, maybe things will be better there. *downgraded one star... it's actually four items that's awful. Made a repeat purchase of a cold small dish, these flat dried/fried fish covered in sweet chili sauces, loved the first one I got! This container was not edible. I'm a veteran of stinky tofu and all sorts of strange preserved foods, but I know when the preserved food was bad before processing. Mouthful after mouthful the fish was tasting like rot, this fish was spoiled before it got sauced and preserved.... ended up throwing it away. Your experience might be different, but you are able to make the extra 10 min drive out to the Super H Mart, you'd likely fare better and there's a food court there as well!! read more

I've only been to one other H Mart, in Merrifield, but this one in Annandale certainly tops in the vibe and overall appeal. The sampling stations were the most fun, and there were in every corner of the shop offering little cups of everything from seaweed salad, cut and peeled fruit slices, and fried fish to rice cakes and curry. The product section was definitely another highlight, and the range, quality, and the price were excellent. Some of the bargains I grabbed are crab sticks ($4 for a 1kg pack!) and strawberries ($2.49 per punnett). It's freezing in there though, so it might be a good idea to bring a jacket.
