HUGE AND LONG-OVERDUE RAVE FOR H-E-B I went to the H-E-B this morning. My beloved bride (also known as my domestic supervisor) slept late, but not before giving me a list of what to get. And in spite of the fact that I had a list, I still forgot a couple of things. In my defense, I can only say that I read lists just about as well as I read instructions or ask for directions. Such is life. I enjoy grocery shopping at H-E-B. I can't think of very many men who do enjoy that particular activity, but to me it's fun. Going to the H-E-B gives me an opportunity to "people-watch," something that I have done as far back as I can remember. People can be very entertaining. One morning, I saw two Tarleton students - male and female - shopping. What got my attention was the fact that the young lady climbed over into the basket with the assistance of the young man, and it was obvious that she was thoroughly enjoying him chauffeuring her around. About five minutes later on that same morning, I saw a young mother negotiating with her child, who was probably four years old. Frankly, I've never understood parents who allow their children to talk that way, but it's not my child or grandchild, and therefore is none of my business. This morning, I had a brief conversation with a beautiful older woman. I was getting a gallon of milk out of the cooler when I heard her voice behind me, saying "I just wanted to let you know that I'm right behind you. Would you please hand me a gallon of that milk? I hope me being this close to you does not bother you. I promise that I won't bite." I turned and looked at her as I handed her the gallon of milk and I said, "ma'am, I don't believe that any woman is beautiful as you would bite." She smiled, looked me dead in the eyes, and said "honey, has anyone ever told you that you are full of sh*t?" "Yes ma'am, I hear that quite often." She laughed, gently patted me on the arm, thanked me for helping her, and walked away. I love interacting with nice people who I don't know. I also enjoy grocery shopping because I get to see all of the wonderful employees that the H-E-B has. Unless they are on the Texas or FBI's 10 most wanted list, people like to be recognized. Whether it is by facial recognition (or even better by the sound of their name), people enjoy being recognized. They never fail to do that at the H-E-B grocery. They never fail to greet me by my name or with a smile or both. People like Shelley, Sean, Linell, Koran, and many others, whose names escape my memory at this particular moment in time. I've never had a negative experience with any employees there. It is obvious that they are selected very carefully for employment and then trained very well afterwards. I have actually had those employees woke up to me and say, "Mr. Hutson, are you finding everything you need today?" And if for some reason I can't find something, I can always count on them to either tell me where that item is at or find someone who knows. In an age where having pronouns is popular, H-E-B employees' favorite pronouns must be "sir " and "ma'am, " because they never fail to interject them during a conversation with a customer. I can always find what I want to eat there. Their trucks arrived promptly, and the shelves are stocked just as promptly. I often hear complaints that the store is still too small, and I suppose that it is true. I know that I have made that same claim to my beloved bride/domestic supervisor, who tells me to stop complaining and to just be thankful that they have a wider variety of items than they used to have before remodeling. I have also heard complaints that the parking lot is too small, and maybe it is. I think that it speaks to the fact that Stephenville is growing. Tarleton is at an all-time high with enrollment and it's only going to get bigger. I just try to shop early in the morning when there are very few people there. I am retired and I like to sleep late when I can, but I've got to shop sometime. I can control the crowds if the crowds are not there when I'm shopping early in the morning. The downside to shopping early in the morning is that there are not nearly as many people to watch. I guess you can't have everything. The HEB grocery store is managed by and staffed with ROCK STARS! I am sorry that I am just now writing this rave when I have been shopping with you for 25 years. I suppose that doing it now is better than not doing it at all, but I wish I had done it sooner. I'm sorry that I didn't. Thank you all of you not only for all that you do, but for making my life such an easier place to live. read more

Matty the dairy clerk was so friendly. She helped me find my favorite milk and then she helped me find tortilla chips. I love heb my first time going to this store. Store was nice and clean. Bathrooms too. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Your employees should not leave paying customers crying. Do better. I wish I had saved my receipt because the cashier definitely didn't tell me her name. (Can't blame her, I would be ashamed to give my name if I were her too) My husband and I were shopping at your location and went to check out. The cashier motioned us over and said "OVER HERE" so we proceeded to go to her line which was empty. It was a 15 limit line but did as we were instructed even though we had maybe 25 items. Towards the end of ringing up our groceries she very loudly informed us "from now on you should really not come through this line because it's 15 items only". This cashier had me hanging my head in shame as I paid for my groceries. I felt like a child that had been shamed and was embarrassed in front of the now large line behind us. I didn't look up from the ground from then on. I paid. I left. I cried the whole way home. I follow the rules and go to the appropriate line, only going to her line that day because I was prompted to. I WILL NEVER BE BACK TO H-E-B. I could point her out of a lineup because she humiliated me in front of a packed store. read more

A small H-E-B, and I couldn't find gluten free bread and apparently none of the college kids working there knew where it was either. Also they didn't have gluten free pancake mix. read more

Need to move the time clock out of view, and put checkout staffing at top priority. When there are checkout lines blocking the entire front end of the store, watching cashiers clock out and head home is frustrating to customers. Watching other employees facing product on a shelf is even more frustrating when there are five more registers that could be staffed to get those lines moving. It's bad enough that nobody has the guts to enforce "express" lanes and refuse service to the people who go through with a cart piled to overflowing, but when the store is contributing to the delays by putting the priority on making the shelves pretty instead of keeping the checkouts moving, I'm inclined to drop my potential purchases in one of the closed lanes and take my business elsewhere. read more

What I like best about H-E-B in Stephenville is the customer service. They are always helpful and know they're business. Everything is kept nice and in order. Their only downfall in my opinion is the parking. Never enough parking. Hate the design where the entrance is , only one entrance. They truly need to build a bigger store on a bigger lot with a bigger parking lot. They're worth it. read more

This location is your run of the mill HEB location. It's the old style, but very well kept, and jostle kind of small for the volume of business it does. None the less, it is the best place to buy groceries in town. There has been talk of a new one being built, but I guess we will see! read more

I am partially handicapped and my experience shopping at HEB Stephenville has been very positive. They are very helpful, especially at check-out HEB was the first place in Stephenville that I ventured out after my stroke, and I felt very welcome and everybody is treated like a customer should be. I do most of my shopping there now. read more

Better quality and better than Wal-Mart for service. I like coming to a place where I can get my food and out without being distracted by all the things at Wal-Mart. This place has central market items which are awesome. Lol read more

How this location stays open is beyond me. Poor selection, and higher prices than the Walmart that's just a few blocks down the road. Plus, I find it just a little uncomfortable to buy food from a place named "Harry Butts"... read more
