H-E-B is the best grocery store in the country, hands down. I've since moved to Dallas where there are no HEBs (literally why) and I always make a point to go to HEB when I come back to CStat because: 1. Salsa- there is a huge selection of brands, from familiar to local. I love trying new ones. Most grocery stores don't have such a wide selection. 2. Sushi- no other grocery store sushi compares (especially Krogers...gross!). Don't be freaked out by the Hot Cheeto roll- it's fantastic and I recommend. 3. Checkers/baggers- there's so many its unbelievable. Never have to wait even on the most crowded days. 4. Produce- best prices and without a doubt the best quality. 5. Anything HEB brand- just as good as the brand-names. Especially the chips! I could go on and on. When I drive back from Dallas I always see this particular location on the horizon sitting on the hill looking so majestic. One day Dallas will get an HEB and my life will be complete. read more

for being such a big company, they sure do have horrible equipment. Every time I go through self check out it's very dirty and the card readers never work. I only have this issue at this H-E-B. But they often get their order wrong - happened 3 times out of 7 or 8 visits. Wow, I am amazed at the 1 star reviews. Folks - get a grip. This is an HEB. Yes, it is pretty much like all the other HEBs in town. It's a decent store, well lit, lot's of produce with some interesting organic items not available in other HEBs. The quality of meat and general presentation is better than the other HEBs. This HEB is built to serve the expanding suburban growth down South. It does great job of serving that neighborhood. I've been here a couple of times and probably will shop here rather than the HEB on Texas. BTW., I was out there today and they had pretty good set up for Halloween. Lots of stations with goodies for kids including a real nice setup with free cakes for kids to decorate. While this is not a Central Market, HEB is following their standard template to test the market. I saw them do the same in San Antonio introducing new items into the Hollywood Park HEB to see if the market would support a Central Market. The wine selection here is quite interesting. The usual stuff from the Texas Ave HEB but they also have some stand-out wines not available at the other HEBs plus some seriously high end stuff in the $100-$400 range. Will be interesting to see how much of that they move. Same goes for their cheese and bread selections. Lot's of variety and some unique things that typically you only see in a Central Market. Folks, at the end of the day, if you want a Whole Foods and Central Market - move to bigger city. Dare, I say - Austin :-) Or support the store and talk to the management and stop whining that Santa didn't bring you a Central Market when you live in a red-neck wonderland. This is my neighbourhood grocery store. I shop here two or three times a week. I can get almost anything that I need here. It is a well stocked store. Their beer and wine selection is extensive (See Annatar B's review for more on this). The produce is always fresh and they have interesting vegetables that they bring in from time to time. If I had one complaint, it's the seafood department. The quality is good and always fresh but it lacks variety. I wish it were more along the lines of a Central Market or H-Mart where sushi grade seafood are available. Still, it meets they day to day needs of my seafood purchases. The bakery is good offering a nice selection of baked goods. I am a real fan of there combination corn and flour tortillas, a nice texture, freshly made in the store. The employees are always friendly and willing to help find something that one may be looking for. On the rare times that I wanted a refund or to exchange something, it was easily done. Their customer service is outstanding. The place is always clean, well lit and most of the cashier lines are open (Wal-Mart take a hint). As I have mentioned, H-E-B is a great community partner supporting and sponsoring many organizations and events. Love my H-E-B! read more

I decided to drop by the "new" HEB store on William D. Fitch Parkway for a change and I was sorely disappointed. I don't know where to start, but, I can say the whole feel I got when I walked in was worse than anything I've ever felt walking into an HEB. I couldn't find anything I needed; when I asked for help, it was like pulling teeth and I didn't feel very welcome by that one person...It wasn't personal, this person would have had a problem with anyone who needed help. Since I didn't like the layout of the store, I really noticed how every aisle was an ordeal...I will only say that either everyone in the store is crazy and rude or the layout is messed up. When I got to the check out, this person checking us out wasn't speaking at the beginning, he jerked the food around, squeezed my loaf of bread...I said "Hey, you just sqeezed the life out of my bread, dude!" He halted, looked shocked and looked down at the bread...I think he realized at that point he really DID squeeze it too hard...I asked for him to send someone to bring me a new loaf...he did. After that, he started talking fast and seeming nervous and to break the ice, I told him I'd spank him if that would make him feel better. I was out of line, I suppose, but, I couldn't help myself. We both looked at each other and broke into hysterical laughter (very loud) and he turned around and begged me to spank him and spank him hard. lol I didn't spank him, I always leave my leather whip in the car, I never bring it out in public (I'm kidding about the leather whip). By the way, this guy was at least my age if not a little bit older...so, what I said was really inappropriate, but, I decided to make fun of the situation rather than be nasty and mean. I don't like meany weany people! :) haha I suppose I will just say there are many other HEB stores and getting into this store at this intersection is nutty, I didn't like the layout so, I suppose that is my main complaint. People are people and we all have out good and bad days...the layout of the store can be rearranged...they can't do very much about the intersection...yikes. Hahaha read more

Recently run into a customer service mishap at this HEB, and was very impressed how it was handled. I ordered a deli platter over the phone, to pick up for a party. The lady taking the order assured me that they were not too busy, and my order should be ready later that day. However, when I showed up at the store to pick the order in the evening, there was no deli platter waiting for me. The guys working behind the deli counter found the record of my phone order, but no platter has been made. After a lengthy wait for "the manager", Jojo showed up. He apologized profusely, and offered me to either wait a few more minutes while he makes my order, or come pick it up the next day. I agreed to wait. Jojo rounded up another lady, and together they put together my order very quickly, apologized again, and handed me the platter at no charge. Good (average, really) sandwiches, but very impressive customer service. read more

I absolutely Love H.E.B. I am a big fan of natural, preservative and nitrate free foods, and HEB has store brands that meet this. I can buy all of my meats, eggs etc as healthy options that don't break the bank. They also have a large produce section. My favorite part of this HEB is the section where you can grind your own nut butter, and buy bulk nuts, dried fruites etc. I drive past all of the other grocery stores in town to get to this specific one! read more

Better than the rest of the lot! Adjusting to this place, it was welcoming to see something grand for once. I have to admit there wasn't a "Cafe on the Run" as other upscale H-E-B's have. However, it carries some organic foods and better quality produce than Walmart's. The layout is the typical layout similar to a Central Market. Design to entice an individual to buy more according to their senses rather than a quick shopping trip. Their customer service is truly excellent. One attendant went out of their way to help me find a tea that wasn't in the fridges prior to my check out. Knowing H-E-B's company, if one requests the item, they will do anything they can to provide their service. Yes, it isn't a whole foods, a multicultural markets, or so forth. Yet, Compared to this lot, it is better than the rest. A few items were a bit higher than usual. Believing this is due to several other factors, (weather conditions on crops, cost of transport, etc) it can suffice for now. The location is a bit of a problem but once you get the hang of it. It is easier to manage than other places. read more

I wish MS had an HEB. Every trip I take to tx I always go here for all my groceries. Love this place. All the food is fresh. And way more to choose from than our local grocery store and big chain stores that sell produce and fresh foods. Went through the self checkouts last trip here o had beer and the cashier was there and ready to check my ID. Walmart self checkout is a guaranteed 1-2 min wait for the person to come check ID. As far as H-E-B Stores go, this is by far the worst one I have ever encountered. I waited 35 yes THIRTY FIVE minutes for grocery pickup on Sunday morn at 10 AM. I got there five minutes early and watched people come and go. I tried calling the store and was transferred 4 times, never really got the correct person. They gave me some of the craziest excuses, we are busy, or other people where late getting here late to pick up their orders. Those just NOT have effected me. I was there ON time. Also had black bugs in my hearts of romaine lettuce , shriveled up grapes, outdated item, Cheese that expired the day I picked up , ordered a prime Rib with Mark in meat dept only to show up and they did NOT have my order. I feel like I could still go on but I think I've gotten my point across. I have stage 4 cancer and injections in my knew or I promise you I would be inside getting my own groceries. Thankfully for me there are other grocery stores. I think the would appreciate my business more. H-E-B has gotten to big and can't handle the growth. So sad. Just want to warn the public. read more

Great store, great people. One thing about service and HEB commitment to "doing the right thing".... Chloe from Navasota posted a coupon connected with a snack cake that was out of date. It has been my experience that if you bring the out of date product to a manager's attention not only will you be appreciated, you WILL recieve the fresh product and the coupon honored. Stores are run by humans and humans make mistakes. I don't believe the situation Chloe described was out of malice, just an oversight. Sometimes I drive the extra 15 minutes to go to this HEB. Not that the other ones are bad, but this one is HUGE and has a very big variety of fruits and desserts. My boyfriend likes going to this HEB because the alcohol section is way bigger than the others, and he loves browsing through all of the different brands and flavors of beer and wine. I feel like this store has a much bigger selection of items, and the tortillas and desserts are made and served fresh. read more

It's a nice HEB, but it's also very busy, and they're always sold out of stuff. I think they need another store in the area. I heard someone say it's due to the influx of new college students, maybe? This month they've been sold out of chicken breasts, extra lean ground beef, as well as other stuff. Their steak selection gets hit pretty hard, too. It's kind of nuts that a store this size runs out of the essentials. Also, it's hit or miss with the seafood, sometimes it's fresh, sometimes it's not. The staff are usually friendly, with an exception to a few of the late shift people checking you out. I don't know what's with the overweight white girl around 9PM during the week. Ohh HEB in my neighborhood. That's seriously as good as it gets. Anyone who gives HEB a bad review has clearly never shopped at Safeway, Publix, or Kroger. HOW COULD THEY EVEN BE COMPARED?!? For one, the selection is Texas-sized, the prices are very reasonable, HEB brand food and merch is often just as good if not better than name brand and at a much lower price. There are free samples, fresh tortillas, and regular clearance deals on cosmetics, kitchenwares, and other miscellaneous. I CANNOT RAVE enough about this place. There are three major HEBs in BCS and this is by far the best. First off it's YUUUUUGE! You can find pretty much whatever you want here. But here's why I like it: 1. Biggest produce selection in town. 2. Best seafood selection in town, though I like Fred & Fred better overall. 3. Far and away best cheese selection in town of anywhere. Nothing else comes close, period. 4. Wine and beer selection is incredible. I've been astonished at the fine wine I've found here. 5. Best selection of international foods. 6. Greater selection of intetesting frozen foods than anywhere else. I think that's enough, so I'll stop now. I did find it really funny when I asked an employee where the best cup of coffee nearby was, and she said "McDonalds." Lol...south College Station... People who complain about this place obviously weren't around when the uber crappy old Winn Dixie and Appletree ruled the roost. read more

OK, I won't lie: this was a disappointment. What can I say? It wasn't a Plus! location like (well, everyone) had hoped it would be. I was there on the grand opening, and it does indeed appeal to the more upscale crowd, including plenty more of cheeses and wines. The layout was a bit screwy, but I can't hold that against them: I'm just not used to it! I go to the College Station (and occasionally, Tejas Center) location, but not this one. And yes, before you point out that this is in College Station, the "College Station" H-E-B refers to the supermarket at Holleman and Texas Avenue. It was probably because of my high expectations why it fails to me. First off, the location is MISERABLE. The traffic circle at Arrington is awful and pointless, complete with a driveway to nowhere. Parking is narrow and seems like it's built on a hill. While it lacks the ramps downward like the College Station location, the parking lot isn't really flat. There's NO dining choices apart from the deli. The Tejas Center location had a Chinese food stand that I have yet to muster up the courage to try, and I've even heard some locations have an Auntie Anne's Pretzel pad inside. Being this far south from the mall, it would've been nice to have (as for the Auntie Anne's in the mall, at least the foul-smelling and loud A&F is closing). There's also NO good International foods. In the other H-E-B reviews locally, people complained about the lack of a Caribbean foods section which all but vanished from the other two stores. I had some money with me to buy some tasty international food, but in the international food aisle, all there was some Goya products and ramen. That's right...they tried to pass off ramen as international food (in the other H-E-B, it's classified as soup). The College Station location has a few items like Pocky, and the Tejas Center has a huge selection of Mexican goods including sodas and pan dulces. Not so here! On the other hand, it gets some credit as it has taken a bit of stress off from the College Station location. But I've heard the new location isn't crowded (other Yelpers have their theories). I really hope that this H-E-B gets a bit better over time, but in the meantime, I'll take College Station and Tejas Center any day. read more

I LOVE shopping at this HEB when staying with my parents in College Station. Mind you, my point of reference here is grocery stores in Los Angeles. College Stationites have no clue how good they have it--spacious aisles, plenty of parking, and friendly clerks. Practically every time I've walked in here, someone has cheerfully greeted me. There are no security guards (a staple of LA supermarkets, including Whole Foods). On at least two separate occasions, someone approached me while I was shopping and offered to help me find what I needed--once in the floral department and once in the canned goods. No, it's not Central Market or Whole Foods, as others have complained--but who needs weird brands and high prices? Not me. And as someone who regularly shops at a Whole Foods Market because it's close to where I live, I can promise you it's incredibly, incredibly overrated. IMO, Towerpoint HEB is grocery store heaven. I will say, however, that I in no way approve of the giant bags of live crayfish they sometimes have sitting on ice in the middle of the seafood department. Animal cruelty is never acceptable, no matter the species and regardless of whether the animal in question is supposed to be used for food. If the animal on ice were something cuter--like turtles or frogs--people would protest. However, I'll report the crayfish situation to PETA rather than giving them a poor review on Yelp. If I were reviewing solely based on animal cruelty, almost every grocery store in the country would get low marks. read more

I love HEB. Their meal deals, their combo locos, their variety, their prices... It is really hard to beat what they offer! With their new app for coupons and recipes and lists, I cant imagine it gets too much better. The app lets you pick recipes and then it adds the ingredients to your shopping list for you and even has what isle they are on in the store. Even if you cant find an item at the store, you can ask any employee and they can take you right to it...its like they have a built in GPS for their store! HEB employees have a great atitude and you can tell that they are working for a great company, read more
